  • The induction motor rotor fault diagnosis system using current signals, which are measured using an axis-transformation method, is presented in this paper. In inverter-fed motor drives, unlike line-driven motor drives, the stator currents are rich in harmonics; therefore fault diagnosis using stator current is not trivial. The current signals for rotor fault diagnosis need precise and high resolution information, which means the diagnosis system demands additional hardware such as a low pass filter, high resolution ADC, and encoder, etc. The proposed axis-transformation method with encoder and without encoder is expected to contribute to a low cost fault diagnosis system in inverter-fed motor drives without the need for any additional hardware. In order to confirm the validity of the developed algorithms, various experiments for rotor faults are tested and the line current spectrum of each faulty situation using Park transformation is compared with the results obtained from fast Fourier transforms.

  • The design of two-dimensional zero-phase FIR digital filters by transformations is a popular and well-developed technique, but is suffers from the disadvantage that in its current form the filters with only four quadrant symmetry can not be designed exactly circular symmetry at frequencies far from the origin. it is shown how symmetry requirement for the filters with any number of dimensions can be fulfilled with arbbitrary percision by adapting transformation with the appropriate series expansions. this transformation has been known generally as the McClellan transformation. In this paper, a simple method for ensuring exelent circular symmetry at frequencies far from the origin is presented. This method which employs the Modified Mcclellan trnsformation for the design of 2-D FIR filter form 1-D FIR filters is quite useful for the design of 2-D FIR filters with multiple cutoff boundaries such as band-pass filters.

  • Recently, there has been research to use portable digital camera to recognize objects in natural scene images, including labels or marks on a cylindrical surface. In many cases, text or logo in a label can be distorted by a structural movement of the object on which the label resides. Since the distortion in the label can degrade the performance of object recognition, the label should be rectified or restored from deformations. In this paper, a new method for label detection and restoration in digital images is presented. In the detection phase, the Hough transform is employed to detect two vertical boundaries of the label, and a horizontal edge profile is analyzed to detect upper-side and lower-side boundaries of the label. Then, the biquadratic transformation is used to restore the rectangular shape of the label. The proposed algorithm performs restoration of 3D objects in a 2D space, and it requires neither an auxiliary hardware such as 3D camera to construct 3D models nor a multi-camera to capture objects in different views. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • Analysis of dynamic or impact problems is very important in engineering fields such as airplanes and automobiles. In the present study, two-dimensional elastodynamic BEM program with Laplace transformation is developed to analyze dynamic or impact problems. Accuracy and efficiency of the BEM program are tested by making the comparision of impact analysis of some models with other's published results. The BEM developed is applied to the impact crack problem and the dynamic stress intensity factors of some impact cracks is obtained by the displacement extrapolation method. It is confirmed to be possible to analyze impact problems accurately with only a little elements in simple models. And also it is found to be careful to use the singular element usually using in static crack problems because that the elastodynamic fundamental solution usually using in static crack problems because that the elastodynamic fundamental solution has more sensitive singularity than the static fundamental solution and to determine the boundary conditions in dynamic problems.

  • The magnitude of evanescent modes in terms of dynamics it investigated in case that the transformation of water waves is predicted by the linear wave theory. For the waves propagating over two steps, the eigenfunction expansion method is used to predict the amplitudes of reflected and transmitted waves by the component of evanescent modes as well as propagating modes. Then. the relative importance of evanescent modes to the propagating modes is investigated. The numerical experiments find that the evanescent modes are pronounced at the relative water depth of k$_1$h$_1$=0.11$\pi$ and the water depth ratio of h$_2$/h$_1$ close to zero.

  • Various time series representation methods have been proposed for efficient time series clustering and classification. Lin et al. (DMKD, 15, 107-144, 2007) proposed a symbolic aggregate approximation (SAX) method based on symbolic representations after approximating the original time series using piecewise local mean. The performance of SAX therefore depends heavily on how well the piecewise local averages approximate original time series features. SAX equally divides the entire series into an arbitrary number of segments; however, it is not sufficient to capture key features from complex, large-scale time series data. Therefore, this paper considers data-adaptive local constant approximation of the time series using the unbalanced Haar wavelet transformation. The proposed method is shown to outperforms SAX in many real-world data applications.

  • GNSS receivers capable of tracking multiple Global Navigation Systems (GNSSs) simultaneously are widely used. In order to estimate accurate user position and velocity, it is necessary to consider the key elements that contribute to the interoperability of the different GNSSs. Typical examples are the time system and the coordinate system. Each GNSS is operated based on its own reference time system depending on when the system was developed and whether the leap seconds are applied. In addition, each GNSS is designed based on its own coordinate system based on earth model constant values. This paper addresses the interoperability issues from the viewpoint of Single Point Positioning (SPP) users utilizing multiple GNSS signals from GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and Galileo. Since the broadcast ephemerides of each GNSS are based on their own time and coordinate systems, the time and the coordinate systems should be unified for any user algorithm. For this purpose, this paper proposes a method of converting each GNSS coordinate system into the reference coordinate system through Helmert transformation. The error of the broadcast ephemerides was calculated with the precise ephemerides provided by the International GNSS Service (IGS). The effectiveness of the proposed multi-GNSS correction and transformation method is verified using the Multi-GNSS Experiment (MGEX) station data.

  • This paper proposes a method for matching two different images, especially satellite images. In the general image matching fields, when an image is compared to other image, they may have different properties on the size, contents, brightness, etc. If there is no noise in each image, in other words, they have identical pixel level and unchanged edges, the image matching method will be simple comparison between two images with pixel by pixel. However, in many applications, most of images to be matched should have much different properties. This paper proposes an efficient method for matching satellite images. This method is to match a raw satellite image with GCP chips. From this we can make a geometrically corrected image. The proposed method is based on wavelet transformation, not required any pre-processing such as histogram equalization, analysis of raw image like the traditional methods.

  • The wind responses of twin buildings are determined by the characteristics of wind loads and the dynamic characteristics of the structural systems of the buildings. In this study, the characteristics of wind pressure that influence wind responses were identified for two different spacings between the twin buildings using a wind tunnel test and the proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method. Structural dynamic characteristics were also identified using 3D structural system modeling. The double modal transformation method was utilized to evaluate the characteristics of wind pressure for across-wind and along-wind conditions and the effect of the dynamic characteristics of each structure on the wind responses. The channeling and vortex effects were identified through the POD method. Across-wind loads were significantly affected by the spacings between the twin buildings, whereas along-wind loads were minimally affected. Similarly, while using the double modal transformation method, a significant difference was noticed in case of the cross-participation coefficients in the across-wind direction condition for the different spacings between the buildings; however, the along-wind direction condition showed negligible difference. Therefore, the spacing between the two buildings plays a more important role in across-wind responses compared to along-wind responses.
