Characteristics of the Method to Predict Strain Responses from the Measurements of Displacement Responses (변위응답의 측정으로부터 변형률응답을 예측하는 방법의 특성)

  • A method to predict the strain responses from the measurements of displacement responses is considered. The method uses a transformation matrix which is composed of a displacement modal matrix and a strain modal matrix. The method can predict strains at points where displacements are not measured as well as at displacement measuring points. One of the drawbacks of the strain prediction method is that the displacement responses must be measured at many points on a structure simultaneously. This difficulty can be overcome by measuring the FRFs between displacements at a reference point and other point in sequence with a two channel measuring equipment This procedure is based on the assumption that the characteristics of excitation applied to the structure do not vary with time.

Adaptive Enhancement Method for Robot Sequence Motion Images

  • Aiming at the problems of low image enhancement accuracy, long enhancement time and poor image quality in the traditional robot sequence motion image enhancement methods, an adaptive enhancement method for robot sequence motion image is proposed. The feature representation of the image was obtained by Karhunen-Loeve (K-L) transformation, and the nonlinear relationship between the robot joint angle and the image feature was established. The trajectory planning was carried out in the robot joint space to generate the robot sequence motion image, and an adaptive homomorphic filter was constructed to process the noise of the robot sequence motion image. According to the noise processing results, the brightness of robot sequence motion image was enhanced by using the multi-scale Retinex algorithm. The simulation results showed that the proposed method had higher accuracy and consumed shorter time for enhancement of robot sequence motion images. The simulation results showed that the image enhancement accuracy of the proposed method could reach 100%. The proposed method has important research significance and economic value in intelligent monitoring, automatic driving, and military fields.

  • Evanescent modes which are the other solutions of the Laplace equation for the linear dispersion equation may affect the wave transformation especially when a water depth varies abruptly. In this study, the effects of evanescent modes for a three-dimensional depression of seabed are investigated by using the eigenfunction expansion method. A convergence test is first carried out by changing numbers of domains and evanescent modes. The wave transformation for various depressions of seabed is then calculated under condition that the solution of the eigenfunction expansion method is converged.

  • An efficient method for the desist of active filters from doubly terminated lossless ladder type passive filters is presented. This technique is based on the linear transformation of network variables from the voltage-current domain to a new domain for the active realization of the passive networks. The method developed herein applies the linear transformation to a ladder building block which contains both a shunt and a series reactive arm, resulting in the minimization of the number of operational amplifiers required for the active realization. The validity and efficiency of this method are verified by the design of the 8th-order Chebyshev low-pass filter followed by the measurement of its frequency characteristics which fairly agree with the theoretic ones.

Verification of an Autonomous Decentralized UPS System with Fast Transient Response Using a FPGA-Based Hardware Controller

  • This paper proposes an autonomous decentralized control for a parallel connected uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system based on a fast power detection method using a FPGA based hardware controller for a single phase system. Each UPS unit detects only its output voltage and current without communications signal exchange and a quasi dq transformation method is applied to detect the phase and amplitude of the output voltage and the output current for the single phase system. Fast power detection can be achieved based on a quasi dq transformation, which results in a realization of very fast transient response under rapid load change. In the proposed method, the entire control system is implemented in one FPGA chip. Complicated calculations are assigned to hardware calculation logic, and the parallel processing circuit makes it possible to realize minimized calculation time. Also, an Nios II CPU core is implemented in the same FPGA chip, and the software can be applied for non-time critical calculations. Applying this control system, an autonomous decentralized UPS system with very fast transient response is realized. Feasibility and stable operation are confirmed by means of an experimental setup with three UPSs connected in parallel. Also, rapid load change is applied and excellent performance of the system is confirmed in terms of transient response and stability.

NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF TWO-DIMENSIONAL FREE-SURFACE FLOW AND WAVE TRANSFORMATION OVER CONSTANT-SLOPE BOTTOM TOPOGRAPHY

  • A method for the numerical simulation of two-dimensional free-surface flow resulting from the propagation of regular gravity waves over topography with arbitrary bottom shape is presented. The method is based on the numerical solution of the Euler equations subject to the fully nonlinear free-surface boundary conditions and the appropriate bottom, inflow and outflow conditions using a hybrid finite-differences and spectral-method scheme. The formulation includes a boundary-fitted transformation, and is suitable for extension to incorporate large-eddy simulation (LES) and large-wave simulation (LWS) terms for turbulence and breaking wave modeling, respectively. Results are presented for the simulation of the free-surface flow over two different bottom topographies, with constant slope values of 1:10 and 1:20, two different inflow wave lengths and two different inflow wave heights. An absorption outflow zone is utilized and the results indicate minimum wave reflection from the outflow boundary. Over the bottom slope, lengths of waves in the linear regime are modified according to linear theory dispersion, while wave heights remain more or less unchanged. For waves in the nonlinear regime, wave lengths are becoming shorter, while the free surface elevation deviates from its initial sinusoidal shape.

  • In Reed Solomon decoder, when there are more than 4 error symbols, we usually use Chien search machine to find those error positions. In this case, classical method requires complex and relatively slow digital circuitry to implement it. In this paper we propose New fast and cost effective Chien search machine design method using Galois Subfield transformation. Example is given to show the method is working well. This new design can be applied to the case where there are more than 5 symbol errors in the Reed-Solomon code word.

  • XML is a standard markup language for exchange and storage of formed or well-formed information in World Wide Web. Because the source data of XML message for exchange of information in World Wide Web is stored in legacy database, it is necessary for the easy connection between XML application and database system. In Oracle8i, 9i, Informix and SQL2000, DBMS vendors make upgrade to DBMS for using XML. This method of upgrade between XML application and database system is Platform-dependent and DBMS-dependent. Also It is necessary for the method of the platform- and DBMS-independent connection between XML application and database system. The methods for the connection between XML DTD and RDB schema are studied for the easy connection between XML application and database system. But the study for the easy connection between XML DTD and ORDB schema is a little. For multimedia application, we use the extended DBMS from RDBMS. It is necessary for the study to the transformation from XML DTD to ORDB schema. In this paper, for easier connection between XML application and database system, we propose the method of the transformation from XML DTD to ORDB schema using Object Model.

  • Recently, as economy grow and population increase we need to develop our coastal area and make good use of it for various purposes. That's why large structures are being installed on the sea. Some samples are petroleum storage tanks, pier of sea bridges. These are large structures which have been installed at coastal area. When we design such vertical cylinder, we should avoid too much construction expense caused by excessive designing or by lack of sufficient design. In order to prevent excessive expenditure, it is important to correctly calculate the force of waves acting on structures and predict the wave transformation. In this study, apply to VOF method based on Navier-Stokes equation and then discussed that nonlinear wave force and wave transformation. A comparison between the numerical model and existing experimental results showed nice agreement among them.

  • The governing equation of the post-buckling of shear-deformable uniform columns under a combined load consisting of a uniformly distributed axial load and a concentrated load at a free end was derived and the post-buckling analysis was investigated by using differential transformation. The loads were obtained for various end-slopes. The results obtained by the present method agree well with published results. In this paper, the differential transformation method was illustrated through its application to the non-linear differential equation of the post-buckling. It is expected that applications of the method to more challenging problems will are expected follow in future to ensue.
