  • Common LED (Light Emitting Diode) lamp has many advantages to compare with fluorescent lamp, long life and no pollution matter like the mercury. The LED lamp is a good light source especially for shipboard lighting because of its compact structure which prevents explosion and shock. Also, low maintenance cost is expected due to its longer life time in comparison with conventional lamps. The LED lamp, however, need some estimates that change of voltage and frequency, vibration, moisture on board to definite accommodation of the LED lamp to shipboard. The purpose of this study is to compare physical properties of a fluorescent lamp with one of the common LED lamp so as to analyze accommodation of common LED lamp on board. This study was carried out in two stages. First, temperature, humidity of illumination, voltage, electric current, frequency and electric power were measured by using experimental equipments. Second, a comparative analysis of consumption electric power, annual oil charge, annual CO2 emission and lamp life time, etc of the fluorescent lamp and common LED one was made. As a result of the study, the consumption electric power of fluorescent lamp was 50% higher than one of the common LED lamp. As a result of measuring life time, it was found that life time of common LED lamp was more about 3.5 fold than one of the fluorescent lamp. Considering these results, it's thought that common LED lamp is verified that energy saving is possible and using is possible as substitute for fluorescent lamp on board.

  • Construction accidents are major problem in Turkish Construction industry and especially fatally rates are very high. Current legislative system on occupational safety in Turkey enforces employers to implement safety measures as well as safety management systems. However level of consciousness in the industry is unsatisfactory and safety are perceived as extra cost and unnecessary expenditure. Moreover, especially in small residential building constructions which have a big share in the industry and unfortunately safety measures to mitigate or abate construction risks do not exist. The study focuses on small residential building construction sites and in the scope of this study, thirty building projects are examined. For each building project, project cost including labour and material costs, service and consultancy costs for mechanical, electrical systems as well as architectural and structural services, costs for supervision and finally general expenditures for construction site facilities were calculated. On the other hand, occupational safety costs for personal protective equipment, collective protective measures, consultancy and training were determined. Work breakdown structures were established and for each work item firstly occupational risks were evaluated and furthermore according to risk scores safety measures to be implemented were defined and related costs were calculated. The study gave results for total safety cost on average, in terms of percentage of total project cost (3.73% of total project cost), safety cost per man-hour (0.40 USD) and safety cost in terms of unit construction area (11.60 USD per square meter). Since safety management is a part of whole project management process, study gives suggestions and techniques to calculate safety costs and implement safety measures as a part of project management service for professionals. Authors believe that suggested approach may easily developed by the usage of more data to establish a model for estimation not only for building construction sites but also for all construction projects.

  • The vehicle of urban transit is a complex system that consists of various electric, electronic, and mechanical equipments, and the maintenance cost of this complex and large-scale system generally occupies sixty percent of the LCC (Life Cycle Cost). For reasonable establishing of maintenance strategies, safety security and cost limitation must be considered at the same time. The concept of system reliability has been introduced and optimized as the key of reasonable maintenance strategies. For optimization, three preceding studies were accomplished; standardizing a maintenance classification, constructing RBD (Reliability Block Diagram) of VVVF (Variable Voltage Variable Frequency) urban transit, and developing a web based reliability evaluation system. Historical maintenance data in terms of reliability index can be derived from the web based reliability evaluation system. In this paper, we propose applying inverse problem analysis method and hybrid neuro-genetic algorithm to system reliability optimization for using historical maintenance data in database of web based system. Feed-forward multi-layer neural networks trained by back propagation are used to find out the relationship between several component reliability (input) and system reliability (output) of structural system. The inverse problem can be formulated by using neural network. One of the neural network training algorithms, the back propagation algorithm, can attain stable and quick convergence during training process. Genetic algorithm is used to find the minimum square error.

  • Department of radiology implements the hospital-based clinical training to accept medical treatment techniques and to adapt experiences for students. However, it might cause negative effects to training education, leading to doubt about major and pressure about training as lots of students experience clinical treatment and complex stress in unfamiliar environment. Regarding this, pressure element that students can experience and diverse variables of training were compared and analyzed. With students in department of radiology for 6 colleges and universities, from September 15th to October 25th in 2011. The degree of stress for students in training was shown high in the fields of cost(3.06) and trainers(3.02). Value and ideal(2.94), role and experiment(2.93), training environment(2.74) and relationships among trainees(2.64) were followed in the order. Except expense regarding stress from clinical training, but in all factors, women showed higher pressure level than men(P<.05) and in stress range according to BEPSI-K, a meaningful difference was shown in fields of training environment, relationships among trainees and role and experiment(P<.01, P<.001, P<.05). Therefore, It has been confirmed that there is correlation between stress of students and satisfaction for clinical training with each other closely.

  • In achieving carbon neutrality and the hydrogen economy, the estimation of H2 cost is critical in terms of CCU technologies. This study analyzes LCOH of hydrogen produced by the carbon utilization unit with methane reforming and CO2 from thermal power plant. LCOH for H2 made with CO is estimated in three ways of Joint Cost Allocations with financial performance risk assessment. Regarding cost analysis, the zero value of LCOH is $6,003/ton. We found that the CCU technology has economic feasibility in terms of profitability. The sensitivity analysis result shows that the input ratio is more influential to the LCOH than other variables. Risk analysis presents the baseline price of zero value of LCOH - $8,408/ton, which is higher than the cost analysis - $6,003/ton. Mainly, the price variability of natural gas primarily affects the LCOH. The study has significant value in analyzing the financial performance risks as well as the cost of H2 produced by a Plasma-based CCU system.

  • The importance of environmental protection has been increased recently. Thus the environmental management was settled in an important global competition factor. In the meantime logistics cost occupied the 8.03% of sales at 2011. This portion was greater than the portion of other countries and it was needed the reduction of logistics cost to secure the competition power. As thus in this paper we prepared the process which diminish the environmental discharge and decrease the logistics cost. We proposed the process to apply the MFCA to SCM, until now the MFCA had been used generally in manufacturing process. We defined the loss in SCM and the plus logistic, minus logistic, logistic center and the classification of cost to adopt the MFCA to SCM.

  • It is most desirable to train with a real crane in an environment similar to that of a port for crane operation training in charge of loading and unloading in a port, but it has time and space limitations and cost problems. In order to overcome these limitations, VR(Virtual Reality) based crane training programs and related devices are receiving a lot of attention. In this paper, we designed and implemented a VR-based harbor crane simulator operating on an HMD. The simulator developed in this paper consists of a crane simulator program that operates on the HMD, an IoT driving terminal that processes trainees' crane operation input, and a training server that stores trainees' training information. The simulator program provides VR-based crane training scenarios implemented with Unity3D, and the IoT driving terminal developed based on Arduino is composed of two controllers and transmits the user's driving operation to the HMD. In particular, the crane simulator in this paper uses a training server to create a database of environment setting values for each educator, progress and training time, and information on driving warning situations. Through the use of such a server, trainees can use the simulator in a more convenient environment and can expect improved educational effects by providing training information.
