Strength Assessment of Standardized Bogie Frame for Urban EMU (도시철도용 표준화 대차프레임의 강도평가)

  • Nowadays domestic demands for urban EMUs are gradually increased due to traffic jams and environmental problems. Therefore it has been required to make sure of manufacturing quality and to acquire cost effective bogie frames through mass production. One of the major functions of bogie frames is to guarantee the static strength and durability. In this research, the comparison between FE analysis and actual load test results is performed for the bogie frame, which is manufactured by Rotem Company. The results show that the standardized bogie frame meets the strength requirements of domestic regulations.

  • Korean Train Express (KTX) has opened to commercial traffic since 2004 at maximum speed 300km/h, and Korea High-speed Railway (HSR-350x) was developed by Korean government, several institutes, and related companies. HSR-350x is now being investigated its performance and tested at the high speed line. In 2004 December, HSR-350x was run over 350km/h and proved its running performance. These high speed railways have 12 motors to transfer the traction effort or the braking force. In this paper, authors propose the construction the measurement system for monitoring the force transferred to the train from the motor. The system is installed to the tripod shaft which is located between the reduction gears and it measures the mechanical load directly.

  • A lights-out detector, which helps the person in charge of maintenance make a quick judgment in the event of a failure of LED-type traffic lights, was explored/developed and installed/ tested, at Seoul Metro, after they developed a patented pilot product in 2005; and, a product improvement test was conducted to ensure reasonable maintenance of signaling facilities. Having better compatibility with existing circuit in use and displaying stable load current, the device makes the maintenance of lights-out detection and alert easier.

  • Since national mid-term target for GHG reduction was determined in 2009, various efforts in transportations have been prepared. Generally, the GHG emission of transportation is calculated using the emission factor published from IPCC guideline(2006). However, it is necessary to develop new emission factors considering the properties of transportation as well as fuel. In Korean railroad, main emission sources are the consumption of diesel and electricity from railcar operation. The GHG emission of electric-powered railcars can be estimated using national electric emission factor, but diesel-powered railcars show different trends. The purpose of this study was to establish the development plans of emission factors for diesel-powered railcars. As a result, the emission factors of diesel-powered railcars were classified into railcar type, engine type and life cycle, notch, load, and traffic volume. In future, several emission factors with this category will be presented quantitatively through field tests with the order of priority.

  • In light of the growing traffic congestion problem and congestion cost, the container transport by railway has to be increased. The freight transport by railway can have decided advantages over trucks in terms of energy efficiency, emissions and cost for certain freight movements, just as transportation in the metropolitan region can have great advantages over driving truck. But the freight transport by truck should gain significant mobility benefits from a freight railway system. Thus, the DMT(Dual Mode Trailer) transport system which is coupled railway transport advantages with load transport advantages has been developed and used in the european countries. The DMT transport will therefore serve the areas required by transport organizers. This paper describes the various DMT transport systems and its strength and weakness.

  • In terms of vibration damage and the serviceability for occupants in buildings, the purpose of vibration study lies in the reduction of vibration damage. However, only when vibration level of buildings is available, measures of vibration control and base isolation can be taken. The purpose of this paper is to provide a fundamental analysis method to estimate structural vibration. After analysing by using two methods, infinite model, combination method, a comparison between analysed results and the results of previous studies was performed to prove the validity of the prediction on the vibration of building structure. Thus, if the material property of soil and quantity of load sources are known before construction being started, the vibration level could be predicted by using these methods.

  • Korea Highway Corporation(KHC) began the ambitious KHC Test Road construction project from 1997. It is 7.7km long two-lane highway next to the mainline of Jungbu Inland Expressway. The KHC Test Road construction was completed at the December 2002. It is composed of twenty-five PCC test pavement sections. Section design parameters are (1) concrete slab thickness, (2) base type, (3) base thickness (12, 15, and 18cm), and (4) pavement type. Twenty-five PCC test pavement sections contain 1241 sensors to evaluate the behavior of pavement system under traffic load and environmental change. The behavior of pavement systems will be identified by the observation of sensor measurement and pavement distress survey from test pavement sections. The Test Road research outcome will validate the Korean Pavement Design Guide which is develop by on-going funded research from the Ministry of Construction and Transportation.

  • This paper proposes a new MAC propocol for high-speed MAN. The proposed protocol is based on the P$_1$-persistent tranmission scheme and each node calculates the transmission probability periodically by using delay information(DI). A window mechanism for the calculation of message delay in each node is proposed to improve the adaptability of the proposed protocol to traffic changes. The capactiy of the proposed protocol is analyzed. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol gives fair message delay under heavy load conditions and, when the transmission speed or distance is increased, the message delay variation of the proposed protocol is less than that of IEEE 802.6 DQDB.

  • In DQDB networks, the bandwidth can be increased considerably be using the EN(Erasure Node) algorithms and DR(Destination Release) algorithms. However, the important issue in implementing them is using method of extra capacity fairly. To improve it, this paper proposes AEN(Adaptive Erasure Node) algorithm which erasure function is activated by network traffic load. Its functional architecture consists of SESM, RCSM, LMSM in addition to the basic DQDB state machines (DQSM, RQM). The SESM and RCSM state machines are placed in front of the DQSM and RQM state machines in order for the node to take advantage of the newly cleared slots. This paper also presents some simulation results showing the effect of AEN algorithm on access delay, throughput and segment erasing ratio in the single and multiple priority networks. The results show that the AEN algorithm offer the better performance characteristics than existing algorithms under overload conditions.

  • The performance of Carrier Sense Multiple Access/Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol adopted as a draft standard of IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN, is analyzed by using mathematical method based on renewal theory. We introdude three kinds of CSMA/CA protocols basic, stop-and-wait and 4-Way handshake CSMA/CA with their mathematical analysis. First, a network of finite population is considered and then expand to infinite population. We model the CSMA/CA protocol as a hybrid protocol of 1-persistent CSMA and p-persistent CSMA protocol, and verify analaytical results by computer simulation. We have found that 4-Way Handshake CAMA/CA shows better performance than those of other two types of CSMA/CA in case of high traffic load.
