Agent-based Speed Management Strategy for Freeway Traffic Safety (Methodology and Evaluation) (고속도로 교통사고 예방을 위한 에이전트 기반 속도관리 전략 (방법론 및 평가))

  • This study proposed a speed management strategy for the enhancement of traffic safety on freeways. A novel feature of the proposed strategy is to provide desirable speed information to individual vehicles. A microscopic traffic simulator, VISSIM, was used for the performance evaluation. Vehicle trajectory data were used to evaluate the various speed management scenarios including the different levels of proportions of heavy vehicles. The proposed speed management strategy would be a useful precursor for developing an effective traffic control and operations system to prevent traffic accidents on freeways.

  • Our domestic economy has been developed very rapidly after 1960's. Also, it is dramatically increasing traffic on road and surround environmental issues. Especially, rapid economic growth has been induced large construction of pavement, and bigger and higher traffic for transportation. These are making air pollution, traffic noise and vibration. The social requirement against the revealed road environment and traffic sound reduction is being demanded. Traffic noise of city zone is showed over the environmental specification more than 57%. In order to overcome these situations, the social attention is being increased. The quiet pavement is the same format of permeable pavement, but is not same for functional performance. In this research, it has been carried out to evaluate the fundamental-mechanical properties of hot mix asphalt for quiet pavement. Especially, couple of laboratory tests are conducted like marshall stability, resilient modulus, indirect tensile test, and compaction energy analysis with gyratory compaction curve. Also, two-layer pavement system has been adopted for developing of quiet pavement. The basic performance of hot mix asphalt of quiet pavement show a satisfaction of specification of hot mix asphalt.

Design of Road Spatial Information Database for Urban Disaster Management : Focused on Evacuation Vulnerability (방재관점에서의 도로 공간데이터베이스 설계 : 대피위험도를 중심으로)

  • To construct road spatial information database, it is the main object of this study that an analysis of road factors and furthermore this is used to the rescue activities in case of urban disasters. When urban disasters such as earthquake or explosion cause fire and collapses people of the affected region happen to evacuate. But only to manage roads and monitor traffic volume, the road data is designed and managed using digital topographic map so it is short that the design of road spatial data to prevent disasters. In this study, we tried to suggest the evaluative factors of evacuation to design database : road width, traffic volume, the fixed or movable obstacles installed, the surrounding environments that dominate the land-use planning, the uses, materials, structures, sizes, and densities of the buildings. Thus, these could provide fundamental data to determine the disasters management planning for evacuation and rescue activities, to evaluate the riskiness, and to draw up hazard information map.

  • The research was conducted to investigate the characteristics of lateral wheel path distributions (wandering) in different traffic lanes. The Wandering may affect pavement life and various distress types. To achieve results presented that the normal distribution curve with symmetry was observed in the 3-lane roads. In the case of the 3-lane road (on one direction), 50-60cm, 65-85cm, and 80-95cm for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd lanes, respectively. In addition, the 1st lane vehicles tended to pass on the right side to avoid th opposite side vehicles, while the outside lane vehicles tended to pass on the left side to avoid the walkway.

A Study on Development of Forecasting Model for Traffic Accident in Chung-Chong Region (충청권의 교통사고 예측모형 개발에 관한 연구)

  • This paper deals with the forecasting model for traffic accident. Its objective is to develop the appropriate model to project the accident of Chung-Chong Region. Two types of models between motorization (M) and personal hazard (P) are tested : One is inverted-U (bell type) curve and the other is increasing (or decreasing) curve. The statiscal and sensitivity analyses show that exponential model (type III) and multiplicative model (type II) are well fit to the given cross-sectional and time-series accident data. The model projects that the fatality per 100, 000 persons of Chung-Chong region, when the motorization level (M) is 0.2, would be in the range between 18 and 77 persons. The paper concludes that the accident level is the function of motorization and the result of implementing the safety policy of a region.

Development and Validation of Situation Awareness Tests for Commercial Drivers (사업용 운전자를 위한 상황인식 검사의 개발과 타당화)

  • This research aimed to investigate whether commercial drivers' situation awareness ability is related to their frequency and magnitude of caused accidents and penalty points. For the purpose of measuring drivers' situation perception and interpretation capacities, two tests named 'situation awareness test' and 'hazard perception test' were developed. The tests were based on the data from 299 commercial drivers (test drivers) using a driving simulator. The outcome of drivers' performance on situation awareness and hazard perception tests was designed to be categorized into 5 grades, classifying the best as grade 1 and the worst as grade 5. As the result, low grades on situation awareness test had positive relationship with accumulated penalty points, frequency of accidents and safety index. Grades on hazard perception test were also positively correlated with accident frequency and safety indices. This suggests situation awareness ability of commercial drivers is significantly related to traffic violations and accident causing tendencies.

  • Due to the advantages of a conveniet, inexpensive installation, flexibility, and scalability, Wireless AMR systems are recently preferred over wired AMR systems. However, a multi-hop supported AMR network, which generally covers large areas, may create energy wastage problem, energy unbalance, and high interference hazard due to a large amount of concurrent-intensive metering data in the network. Therefore in this paper we propose a novel data gathering method which can solve abovementioned problems as well as conserve energy, by reducing the traffic in the network. In addition, the experimental results demonstrate that the proposed scheme shows superior performance to the conventional data transmission method.

  • In up-to-date information anger time it is caused by with business of traffic accident control and analysis and two time it accomplishes a business. National Police Office which controls a traffic accident does not execute an up-to-date technique. And, it is working yet by the hand, There is to traffic accident analysis and the research regarding the analysis against the research which it follows in geography element and composition element and an accident cause is weak. Consequently, effectively establishment and it enforces a traffic safety policy and from the hazard which it evaluates traffic accident data the system and scientific analysis against a traffic accident occurrence cause and a feature in basic must become accomplished. The research which it sees constructs a traffic accident data in GIS base. It is like that, it uses the PDA where is not the collection of data of text form in existing and at real-time it converts store and an accident data rightly in standard traffic accident data form and it will be able to manage. It was related with a space data peculiarity and the research regarding the system development with the geography analysis data about an accident cause under manifesting it accomplished.

Analysis of the Effectiveness of Tunnel Traffic Safety Information Service Using RADAR Data Based on Surrogate Safety Measures (레이더 검지기 자료를 활용한 SSM 기반 터널 교통안전정보 제공 서비스 효과분석)

  • Furnishing traffic safety information can contribute to providing hazard warnings to drivers, thereby avoiding crashes. A smart road lighting platform that instantly recognizes road conditions using various sensors and provides appropriate traffic safety information has therefore been developed. This study analyzes the short-term traffic safety improvement effects of the smart road lighting's tunnel traffic safety information service using surrogate safety measures (SSM). Individual driving behavior was investigated by applying the vehicle trajectory data collected with RADAR in the Anin Avalanche 1 and 2 tunnel sections in Gangneung. Comparing accumulated speeding, speed variation, time-to-collision, and deceleration rate to avoid the crash before and after providing traffic safety information, all SSMs showed significant improvement, indicating that the tunnel traffic safety information service is beneficial in improving traffic safety. Analyzing potential crash risk in the subdivided tunnel and access road sections revealed that providing traffic safety information reduced the probability of traffic accidents in most segments. The results of this study will be valuable for analyzing the short-term quantitative effects of traffic safety information services.

  • This study is intended to provide basic data for health management of firefighters in the future by empirically looking into health hazard factors of firefighters in Busan City. It was revealed that firstly, the danger of harmful chemicals in a fire was perceived the most by firefighters, who extinguish a fire in person on the scene of a fire, and it was followed by the danger of falling while putting out a fire. This study is intended to provide basic data for health management of firefighters in the future by empirically looking into health hazard factors of firefighters in Busan City. It was revealed that firstly, the danger of harmful chemicals in a fire was perceived the most by firefighters, who extinguish a fire in person on the scene of a fire, and it was followed by the danger of falling while putting out a fire. Moreover, the danger of shift work was perceived the most by paramedics. This corresponds to the existing studies arguing that shift work is harmful to health. Next, the overload of patient transport was recognized as the second biggest hazard factor. This demonstrates they are worried about various second accidents that may happen due to a lot of patient transport works. In addition, the possibility of causing a traffic accident was perceived as a hazard factor too, since they must drive ambulance cars quickly to transport patients. Lastly, rescue workers regarded these hazard factors to be most dangerous. This is associated with their occupational characteristics, because rescue workers are the closest to diverse risks including a fire.
