Network Analysis on Herbal Combinations in Korean Medicine for Insomnia (불면 처방 활용 본초의 네트워크 분석)

  • Objectives : The aim of this study was to diversify the interpretation of formulas used for insomnia treatment by searching and analyzing herbal combinations in formulas used for insomnia treatment in Korean medicine. Methods : Frequency analysis was conducted on herbal combinations of 255 formulas related with insomnia, along with network analysis using Netminer 4.2.1. Results : This study has found herbal combinations used frequently in Korean medicine formulas used for insomnia treatment, and a result of network analysis composed of four communities. Each community consisted of herbs in affiliation of Yookmijihwangtang(六味地黃湯) and Samultang(四物湯), Bohyulchunghwatang(補血淸火湯) and Ondamtang(溫膽湯), Jungjihwan(定志丸) and Sanjointang(酸棗仁湯). Conclusions : This study could help in assisting researchers to diversify formula analysis in future studies. Moreover, the herbal combination in insomnia formulas could be used to search for insomnia formulas in other databases or creating a new prescription.

Effects of Naoxintong-containing serum on NO and CGRP in rat cerebral microvascular endothelial cells

  • Effects of Naoxintong (NXT, a formula of Chinese Materia Medica)-containing serum on Nitrogen monoxide (NO) and calcitonin gene related peptide (CGRP) in rat cerebral microvascular endothelial cells (rCMEC) was investigated, rCMEC was injured in vitro by incubating for 4 hours at 100% NO in a hypoxia chamber. The results indicated that NXT could antagonize the reduction of NO and CGRP secreted by rCMEC during hypoxia, the effect of which was dose-dependent. After treated with NXT-containing serum at dosage of 5.0 - 30 and 50 -1.1 g/kg/U respectively, the amount of NO and CGRP secreted by rCMEC were remarkably increased during hypoxia in vitro.

  • Traditional medicines usually use combinational formula that are prepared by mixing different varieties of medicinal herbs and boiling them in water to yield a decoction. In recent years a modified method has been proposed and practiced wherein the individual herbs are boiled with water separately and later these extracts are mixed together for use. We attempted to evaluate their equivalence in terms of its polyphenol contents and DPPH radical scavenging activity. The polyphenol contents as well as the DPPH radical scavenging activities were very similar to each other.

  • A patent contains detailed information of the developed technology and is published to the public. Thus, patents can be used to overcome the limitations of traditional technology trend research and prediction techniques. Recently, due to the advantages of patented analytical methodology, IP R&D is carried out worldwide. The patent is big data and has a huge amount, various domains, and structured and unstructured data characteristics. For this reason, there are many difficulties in collecting and researching patent information. Patent research generally writes the Search formula to collect patent documents from DB. The collected patent documents contain some noise patents that are irrelevant to the purpose of analysis, so they are removed. However, eliminating noise patents is a manual task of reading and classifying technology, which is time consuming and expensive. In this study, we propose a model that automatically classifies The Noise patent for efficient patent information research. The proposed method performs Patent Embedding using Word2Vec and generates Noise seed label. In addition, noise patent classification is performed using the Random forest. The experimental data is published and registered with the USPTO among the patents related to Ocean Surveillance & Tracking Network technology. As a result of experimenting with the proposed model, it showed 73% accuracy with the label actually given by experts.

Exploring the Traits of Popular Channels of Afreeca TV (Afreeca TV의 인기 채널 특징 탐구)

  • This study explores the popular channels of Afreeca TV, which is the most famous Internet Broadcasting Service in South Korea currently. Due to the developments of technology, the era has come that ordinary people are able to do broadcasting individually with some equipment. Unlike traditional media, Internet Broadcasting does not have a concept of ratings, and Afreeca TV utilizes the specific formula for counting popular channels. In this situation, this study analyzes the popular channels on Afreeca TV by 1) Gender 2) Profile Photo 3) Genre 4) Enthusiast 5) Fanclub 6) Supporter 7) Amount of Airtime 8) Cumulative Audience, and then it reveals the traits of those popular channels. Then, it further discusses the future of the Internet broadcasting.

A Study on the Characteristics of Landscape cognition and Image in Deagu City (대도시 경관인지 및 이미지 특성에 관한 연구 -대구시를 중심으로-)

  • The purpose of this study is to focus on the townscape of Daegu based on the urban characteristics of the landscape cognition and images captured by citizens. The analysis was performed by the data obtained from questionnaires and interviews. This study methods were deals the cognition characteristics, landmark landscape, visual preference landscape, image and satisfaction. The results are summarized as follows: 1. The orders of cognition landscapes were estimated Apple> Weather> Texture> Mt.Palgong> Daegu Tower> Pretty Girl> Mt. Apsan> Dalsung Park> Conservative> Dongsung Road, etc. That is constructed Nonphysical elements(62.0%) and Physical elements(38.0%) 2. The orders of representative landscape(Landmark) in city were estimated Mt.Palgong> Daegu Tower> Gat Rock> Mt.Apsan> Dalsung Park, etc. As a whole middle and old people(over 30gen) preferenced as a history landscape or natural landscape, but youth people(10-20gen) preferenced as visible and interesting artifical places. 3. While the positive attitudes for the image of city were traditional(3.30), intimacy(3.58), and rest(2.90), the negative attitudes were unnewly(2.34), closing(2.37) and narrow(2.40). Also total satisfaction for that was estimated 5.51. 4. Psychological factors, related to the satisfaction of the image of city were composed of four factors, individuality character, pleasure character, amenity character, formation character. And the presumption formula of satisfaction was: Satisfaction = 5.477 + 0.752(Individuality) + 0.470(Pleasure) + 0.413(Amenity) + 0.241(Formation).

Metaheuristic-hybridized multilayer perceptron in slope stability analysis

  • This research is dedicated to slope stability analysis using novel intelligent models. By coupling a neural network with spotted hyena optimizer (SHO), salp swarm algorithm (SSA), shuffled frog leaping algorithm (SFLA), and league champion optimization algorithm (LCA) metaheuristic algorithms, four predictive ensembles are built for predicting the factor of safety (FOS) of a single-layer cohesive soil slope. The data used to develop the ensembles are provided from a vast finite element analysis. After creating the proposed models, it was observed that the best population size for the SHO, SSA, SFLA, and LCA is 300, 400, 400, and 200, respectively. Evaluation of the results showed that the combination of metaheuristic and neural approaches offers capable tools for estimating the FOS. However, the SSA (error = 0.3532 and correlation = 0.9937), emerged as the most reliable optimizer, followed by LCA (error = 0.5430 and correlation = 0.9843), SFLA (error = 0.8176 and correlation = 0.9645), and SHO (error = 2.0887 and correlation = 0.8614). Due to the high accuracy of the SSA in properly adjusting the computational parameters of the neural network, the corresponding FOS predictive formula is presented to be used as a fast yet accurate substitution for traditional methods.

Direct kinematic method for exactly constructing influence lines of forces of statically indeterminate structures

  • Constructing the influence lines of forces of statically indeterminate structures is a traditional issue in structural engineering and mechanics. However, the existing kinematic method for establishing these force influence lines is an indirect or mixed approach by combining the force method with the theorem of reciprocal displacements, which is yet inconsistent with the kinematic method for statically determinate structure. This paper proposes the direct kinematic method in conjunction with the load-displacement differential relation for exactly constructing influence lines of reaction and internal forces of indeterminate structures. Firstly, through applying the principle of virtual displacement, the formula for influence lines of reaction and internal forces of indeterminate structure via direct kinematic method is derived based on the released structure. Then, a computational approach with a clear concept and unified procedure as well as wide applicability based on the load-displacement differential relation of beam is suggested to achieve conveniently the closed-form expression of force influence lines, and exactly draw them. Finally, three representative examples for constructing force influence lines of statically indeterminate beams and frame illustrate the superiority of the proposed method.

N-Step Sliding Recursion Formula of Variance and Its Implementation

  • The degree of dispersion of a random variable can be described by the variance, which reflects the distance of the random variable from its mean. However, the time complexity of the traditional variance calculation algorithm is O(n), which results from full calculation of all samples. When the number of samples increases or on the occasion of high speed signal processing, algorithms with O(n) time complexity will cost huge amount of time and that may results in performance degradation of the whole system. A novel multi-step recursive algorithm for variance calculation of the time-varying data series with O(1) time complexity (constant time) is proposed in this paper. Numerical simulation and experiments of the algorithm is presented and the results demonstrate that the proposed multi-step recursive algorithm can effectively decrease computing time and hence significantly improve the variance calculation efficiency for time-varying data, which demonstrates the potential value for time-consumption data analysis or high speed signal processing.

  • Underwater Acoustic Channels (UAC) have inherent sparse characteristics. The traditional adaptive equalization techniques do not utilize this feature to improve the performance. In this paper we consider the Variable Adaptive Subgradient Projection (V-ASPM) method to derive a new sparse equalization algorithm based on the Minimum Symbol Error Rate (MSER) criterion. Compared with the original MSER algorithm, our proposed scheme adds sparse matrix to the iterative formula, which can assign independent step-sizes to the equalizer taps. How to obtain such proper sparse matrix is also analyzed. On this basis, the selection scheme of the sparse matrix is obtained by combining the variable step-sizes and equalizer sparsity measure. We call the new algorithm Sparse-Control Proportional-MSER (SC-PMSER) equalizer. Finally, the proposed SC-PMSER equalizer is embedded into a turbo receiver, which perform turbo decoding, Digital Phase-Locked Loop (DPLL), time-reversal receiving and multi-reception diversity. Simulation and real-field experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance in convergence speed and Bit Error Rate (BER).
