This paper proposes a statistical model of 3-D positions when tracking moving targets using the uncooled infrared (IR) stereo camera system. The proposed model is derived from two errors. One is the position error which is caused by the sampling pixels in the digital image. The other is the timing jitter which results from the irregular capture-timing in the infrared cameras. The capture-timing in the IR camera is measured using the jitter meter designed in this paper, and the observed jitters are statistically modeled as Gaussian distribution. This paper derives an integrated probability distribution by combining jitter error with pixel position error. The combined error is modeled as the convolution of two error distributions. To verify the proposed statistical position error model, this paper has some experiments in tracking moving objects with IR stereo camera. The 3-D positions of object are accurately measured by the trajectory scanner, and 3-D positions are also estimated by stereo matching from IR stereo camera system. According to the experiments, the positions of moving object are estimated within the statistically reliable range which is derived by convolution of two probability models of pixel position error and timing jitter respectively. It is expected that the proposed statistical model can be applied to estimate the uncertain 3-D positions of moving objects in the diverse fields.
As ultra-wideband impulse radio (UWB-IR) uses short-duration impulse signals of nanoseconds, even a small number of timing errors can cause a detrimental effect on system performance. A delay-locked loop (DLL) is proposed to synchronize and reduce timing errors. The design of the DLL is vital for UWB systems. In this paper, an improved DLL is introduced to a UWB-IR time-hopping spread-spectrum system. Instead of using only two central correlator branches as in a conventional DLL, the proposed system uses two additional correlator branches with different delay parameters and different weight parameters. The performance of the proposed schemes with the optimal parameters is compared with that of traditional schemes through simulation: the proposed four-branch DLLs achieves less tracking jitter or a longer mean time to lose lock (MTLL) than the conventional two-branch DLLs if proper parameters are chosen.
In this paper, performance of a pseudonoise (PN) code tracking loop is analyzed and simulated for a direct-sequence/code-division multiple access ( DS/CDMA) system with imperfect power control in a multipath fading channel. A noncoherent first-order delay-locked loop (DLL) is considered as a PN code tracking loop. Power control error is modeled as a log-normally distributed random variable. From the simulation results, it is shown that for smaller discriminator offset, tracking jitter performance is improved while MTLL performance is degraded. It is shown that large power control error and heavy shadowing substantially degrade the PN tracking performance. The analysis in this paper can be applicable to design of PN code tracking loop for a DS/CDMA system.

The infuluence of Doppler effects on the tracking performance of a noncoherent second-order delay locked loop (DLL) operating on a data modulated signal is investigated. For the perfoermance analysis we consider the tracking accuracy (steady state error and jitter) of the linear DLL and the reliability of the nonlinear loop. The nonlinear analysis concerning the loop reliability makes use of an asympototic expansion for the MTLL(mean time to lose lock) which has been derived by applying the singular perturbation method. In particular, we give optimal loop parameters and the optimal bandwidth of the bandpass filter in the loop arms to achieve a maximum MTLL. Since Doppler effects can be producesd comparatively in LEO system, we can espect the more reliable DLL loop design. by using the results of the circuit simulation, the delay lock loop is synthesized in FPGA, and verified to get the GPS data from the STR-2770 GPS simulator system. So, the synthesized logic circuit is shown be accurately performed.
In this paper, the performances of two noncoherent code tracking loops, i. e., traditional code tracking loop(TCTL) and modified code tracking loop(MCTL) are analyzed and compared in a CDMA mobile environment. Closed-form formulas for steady-state jitter variance are derived analytically for the two schemes as a function of the pulse shaping filter, timing offset, signal-to-interference ratio, and loop bandwidth. The design issues of the loop filter are also addressed with emphasis on the second-order tracking loop. Finally, the degradation of BER performance due to timing errors is examined in a CDMA reverse link for IMT-2000 designed by ETRI.

This paper proposes a new dual-loop digital PLL(DPLL) using seamless frequency tracking methods. The dual-loop construction, which is composed of the coarse and fine loop for fast locking time and a switching noise suppression, is used successive approximation register technique and TDC. The proposed DPLL in order to compensate the quality of jitter which follows long-term of input frequency is newly added cord conversion frequency tracking method. Also, this DPLL has VCO circuitry consisting of digitally controlled V-I converter and current-control oscillator (CCO) for robust jitter characteristics and wide lock range. The chip is fabricated with Dongbu HiTek $0.18-{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. Its operation range has the wide operation range of 0.4-2GHz and the area of $0.18mm^2$. It shows the peak-to-peak period jitter of 2 psec under no power noise and the power dissipation of 18mW at 2GHz through HSPICE simulation.

This paper proposes a robust object tracking algorithm using object features and on-line learning based particle filter for mobile robots. Mobile robots with a side-view camera have problems as camera jitter, illumination change, object shape variation and occlusion in variety environments. In order to overcome these problems, color histogram and HOG descriptor are fused for efficient representation of an object. Particle filter is used for robust object tracking with on-line learning method IPCA in non-linear environment. The validity of the proposed algorithm is revealed via experiments with DBs acquired in variety environment. The experiments show that the accuracy performance of particle filter using combined color and shape information associated with online learning (92.4 %) is more robust than that of particle filter using only color information (71.1 %) or particle filter using shape and color information without on-line learning (90.3 %).

In this paper, the performance of the noncoherent code tracking loop designed at baseband for CDMA applications is analyzed in detail and is confirmed by computer simulations. Analytical closed-form formula for jitter variance is derived for AWGN channel environments as a function of pulse shaping filter, timing offset, signal-to-interference ratio, and loop filter coefficients. The design issue of the loop filter is also addressed with emphasis on the second-order tracking loop. Finally, the performance of the designed tracking loop is examined by computer simulations for both AWGN and Rayleigh fading channels, when applied to the reverse link of the coherent CDMA system for IMT-2000 designed by ETRI.

In this paper, we evaluate the performance of DD-bardner (decision-directed gardner) algorithm. We derive an analytic gain of the thiming detector that is a function of SNR and an excess bandwidth, and verify the result by simulation. We also compare the DD-gardner algorithm with the bardner algorithm with respect to tracking performance and jitter performance under low SNR and a residual frequency component.

In this paper, we propose a method to track the movement of camera from the video sequences. This method is useful for video analysis and can be applied as pre-processing step in some application such as video stabilizer and marker-less augmented reality. First, we extract the features in each frame using corner point detection. The features in current frame are then compared with the features in the adjacent frames to calculate the optical flow which represents the relative movement of the camera. The optical flow is then analyzed to obtain camera movement parameter. The final step is camera movement estimation and correction to increase the accuracy. The method performance is verified by generating a 3D map of camera movement and embedding 3D object to the video. The demonstrated examples in this paper show that this method has a high accuracy and rarely produce any jitter.
