This research note aims to provide a critical understanding of "tourist stupidity" and "exclusiveness" within the smart tourism domain and to propose a corresponding qualitative research agenda. It argues that qualitative research methodologies are too infrequently applied, leading to a paradox evident in smart tourism studies. Accordingly, it suggests that embracing a qualitative perspective is essential to diversify the scholarly discourse and promote advanced inquiry in the field of smart tourism. It further seeks to contribute to ongoing debates by focusing on umbrella terms, such as "tourist stupidity" and "exclusiveness," for a more nuanced and holistic understanding of smart tourism and proposes a research agenda that advocates a re-evaluation of qualitative approaches.

The purpose of this study is to explore ways to promote the stay type tourism in Ulsan. To achieve this, IPA analysis techniques were applied to survey the importance and performance of experts, tourists, and hotel users, and measures were developed for activation of common points among the groups. Most studies analyze the survey results of a group, but this study compared and analyzed the results among three groups of experts, tourists, and hotel users, resulting in areas requiring activation. According to the results of each group, 'cultural facilities' were selected as the attraction factor, and 'night tours' were chosen as the basic factor to improve. On the other hand, tourist attractions, clean environment and urban parks have been selected as implementation factors, which correspond to the "ecological tourism," one of Ulsan's five-color themes. According to the ranking, the three groups of experts, tourists, and hotel users were able to look at the results of priority items that were selected up to the third place, although there were no exact matching factors. The items selected by both groups were diversification of night viewing, traffic accessibility in tourist sites, and improvement of night scenery, operation of night experience programs, extension of night opening hours, and revitalization of night markets respectively.

The results of this study are as follows. First, hotel REITs underperformed average REITs and investment proportion of hotel REITs compared to total REITs has been curtailed after 1998. This is because performance of hotel REITs is sensitive to business fluctuations. Second, hotel REITs have mainly invested chain hotels, and shared their role with professional hotel management companies. Third, hotel REITs are to be useful for activating the hotel industries in Korea. In this context, major implications are presented to use healthcare REITs effectively.

To attract visitors, it is essential to make destinations understandable by developing appropriate destination image. However, managing destination image properly is very complicated in order to induce visitors. In this study, the perceived destination image of backpackers who stay in guesthouse located in Seoul is explored. The purpose of the study was to examine the image of Seoul as a tourism destination. To this end, Q methodology, a technique designed for the systematic study of subjectivity in terms of beliefs, opinions, and attitudes is employed. More specifically, the statements representing different destination images perceived by sampled backpacking visitors were Q-sorted. Results showed that four different clusters of sampled backpacking visitors present four different perceived images accordingly: Seoulizer, Patternaizer, Utilizer, and Socializer. The results of this study imply that backpackers provide idiosyncratic perceptions of destination image, which are different from those offered by general travelers who are less sensitive to travel budgets. In addition, for tourism management, based on this study's results, destination marketing planners are encouraged to perform knowledge management, develop more appropriate plans and customized marketing strategies according to different perceived destination images of backpackers.
