When RC(Reinforced Concrete) structures are exposed to harsh environment, deterioration phenomenon occurs, and the corrosion in rebar due to chloride intrusion is known as representative deterioration, so called chloride attack. In this paper, chloride resistance performance of 2 years aged concrete is evaluated considering 3 levels of water to binder ratio(0.37, 0.42, and 0.47) and 2 levels of substitution ratio of fly ash(0% and 30%). Accelerated chloride diffusion coefficient tests referred to Tang's method, total passed charge tests referred to ASTM C 1202, and compressive strength tests referred to KS F 2405 are performed. With adaptation of the previous test results and the results from this study, time-dependent chloride diffusion characteristics are analyzed for each concrete. The FA(Fly Ash) concrete has higher chloride resistance performance than OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement) concrete. According to the evaluation standard of ASTM C 1202, the FA concrete has "Moderate" grade after 49 days while OPC concrete does "Moderate" grade after 365 days. As the results of time-parameter for chloride diffusion, OPC concrete and FA concrete show the decreasing behavior of time-parameters with increasing water to binder ratio. Also, FA concrete has 1.57~2.74 times of time-parameter than OPC concrete. That's cause is thought that the time-parameter indicates the gradient of decreasing of diffusion coefficient. FA concrete has higher time-parameters than OPC concrete by pozzolanic reaction of FA.
Chemically-modified electrodes were fabricated and their electrocatalytic behaviors have been investigated. As a modifying layer, poly-[1-methyl-3-(pyrrol-1-ylmethyl) pyridinium] was electropolymerized onto Pt electrodes under constant current. The thickness of the polymer film was controlled by means of total charge consumed during the electropolymerization. SEM was used to measure the thickness. There was a linear relationship between the passed charge and the film thickness. Ferro/ferricyanide, used as an electron mediator in this study, was rapidly ion-exchanged into the polymer layer with its concentration of 1.2~1.3M. It was found that electrooxidation of ascorbic acid is catalyzed by incorporated ferri/ferrocyanide couple. Kinetic parameters for electrooxidation were determined by RDE experiments. The results indicate that the present system corresponds to ER+S case based on the Saveant theory. Improving methods have been proposed to be R+S case which is ideal for electrocatalysis.
We have studied about chloride penetration test by electrical conductance to 10 specimens made from same test batch. The coefficient of variation of total passed charge(Colombs) was about 24% in same specimens, and we draw a conclusion this method has a low reliability. Owing to complicated reaction ; heterogeneous material, mixing error and error of testing method, then we must consider the scope of the error which is introduced. Specially when you trying to get one test result against one spcimen, you can commit a big error, therefore we recommend that you use mean value against 3 specimens at least.
The fundamental property of magnesia phosphate cement (MPC) for concrete repair material was investigated in this research. For mechanical properties, setting time, compressive strength and tensile/flexural bond strength were measured, and hydration products were detected by X-ray diffraction. The specimens were manufactured with dead burnt magnesia and potassium dihydrogen phosphate was admixed to activate the hydration of magnesia and a borax was used as a retarder. To observe the pore structure and ionic permeability of MPC mortar, mercury intrusion porosimetry was performed together with rapid chloride penetration test (RCPT). As a result, time to set of Fresh MPC mortar was in range of 16 to 21 min depend on the M/P ratio. Borax helped delaying setting time of MPC to 68 min. The compressive strength of MPC with M/P of 4 was sharply developed to 30 MPa within 12 hours. The compressive strength of MPC mortar was in range of 11.0 to 30.0 MPa depend on the M/P ratio at 12 hours of curing. Both tensile and flexural bond strength of MPC to old substrate (i.e. MPC; New substrate to OPC; Old substrate) were even higher than ordinary Portland cement mortar (i.e. [OPC; New substrate] to [OPC; Old substrate]) does, accounting 19 and 17 MPa, respectively. The total pore volume of MPC mortar was lower than that of OPC mortar. MPC mortar had the entrained air void rather than capillary pore. The RCPT showed that total charge passed of OPC mortar had more than that of MPC mortar, which can be explained by the pore volume and pore distribution.
The use of ternary blended cement consisting of Portland cement, granulated blast-furnace slag (GGBFS) and fly ash has been on the rise to improve marine concrete structure's resistance to chloride attack. Therefore, this study attempted to investigate changes in chloride attack resistibility of concrete through NT Build 492-based chloride migration experiments and test of concrete's ability to resist chloride ion penetration under ASTM C 1202(KS F 2271) when 1.5-2.0% of alkali-sulfate activator (modified alkali sulfate type) was added to the ternary blended cement mixtures (40% ordinary Portland cement + 40% GGBFS + 20% fly ash). Then, the results found the followings: Even though the slump for the plain concrete slightly declined depending on the use of the alkali-sulfate activator, compressive strength from day 2 to day 7 improved by 17-42%. In addition, the coefficient from non-steady-state migration experiments for the plain concrete measured at day 28 decreased by 36-56% depending on the use of alkali-sulfate. Furthermore, total charge passed according to the test for electrical indication of concrete's ability to resist chloride ion penetration decreased by 33-62% at day 7 and by 31-48% at day 28. As confirmed in previous studies, reactivity in the GGBFS and fly ash improved because of alkali activation. As a result, concrete strength increased due to reduced total porosity.
The set accelerator used for shotcrete at high pH environment often causes the dusting problem in practice. In this research, a slurry-type set accelerator was developed to avoid this problem and its effectiveness was investigated by applying it to shotcrete mortars. Set time, stiffening, compressive strength, and chloride ion penetration resistance were examined with different amounts of slag, used as partial replacement of cement. According to the experimental results, it was found that the earlier responses such as set time, stiffening, and 1-day compressive strength were probably affected by the amount of ettringite, formulated by the hydration between C12A7 and calcium sulfate polymorphs present in blast furnace slag. Whereas, it is believed that the result of compressive strength after 3 days was attributed to the hydration of tricalcium silicates. As for the results of a chloride ion penetration test, the partial replacement of cement with slag significantly reduced the total charge passed through the shotcrete mortar.
The adhered mortars in recycled aggregate may lower the performance of the concrete, such as by reducing in strength and durability, and cracking. In the present study, the effects of nylon fiber (NF) on the mechanical and durable properties of 100% ordinary portland cement (OPC) and 50% ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) concretes incorporating recycled coarse aggregate (RA) were experimentally investigated. Concrete was produced by adding 0 and
China is a country with large agricultural areas and subject to frequent calamities. Drought is the top of them. It has been a key problem for development of agriculture in the country. In the long struggle against drought, Chinese have accumulated many rational and irrational experiences. The Dragon Kings Belief, which is popular in North China and discussed in a thesis, is one of their irrational experiences. The belief was passed together with Buddhism from India to China in the Tang Dynasty. After it settled down, it was incorporated with the local five dragons belief and a set of beliefs in dragon kings came into existence. The emergence of the dragon kings belief ended the history that the title of rain got was not clear in China and Dragon kings finally got the status. Irrigation is the lifeblood of agriculture in China. In a Chinese mind, Dragon kings are the most important gods who take charge of rain and thus offer the lifeblood. In understanding the nature and characteristics of Chinese traditional culture, it is important for us to make clear the origin and evolution of the belief, find out its nature, function and operation. In the every year beginning of February of the Fanzhuang calendar in the people of Hebeisheng Zhaoxian, would all hold a festival to offer sacrifices to the
The wall shear stress in the vicinity of end-to end anastomoses under steady flow conditions was measured using a flush-mounted hot-film anemometer(FMHFA) probe. The experimental measurements were in good agreement with numerical results except in flow with low Reynolds numbers. The wall shear stress increased proximal to the anastomosis in flow from the Penrose tubing (simulating an artery) to the PTFE: graft. In flow from the PTFE graft to the Penrose tubing, low wall shear stress was observed distal to the anastomosis. Abnormal distributions of wall shear stress in the vicinity of the anastomosis, resulting from the compliance mismatch between the graft and the host artery, might be an important factor of ANFH formation and the graft failure. The present study suggests a correlation between regions of the low wall shear stress and the development of anastomotic neointimal fibrous hyperplasia(ANPH) in end-to-end anastomoses. 30523 T00401030523 ^x Air pressure decay(APD) rate and ultrafiltration rate(UFR) tests were performed on new and saline rinsed dialyzers as well as those roused in patients several times. C-DAK 4000 (Cordis Dow) and CF IS-11 (Baxter Travenol) reused dialyzers obtained from the dialysis clinic were used in the present study. The new dialyzers exhibited a relatively flat APD, whereas saline rinsed and reused dialyzers showed considerable amount of decay. C-DAH dialyzers had a larger APD(11.70
