  • The dusty torus of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) is one of the important components for the unification theory of AGNs. The geometry and properties of the dusty torus are key factors in understanding the nature of AGNs as well as the formation and evolution of AGNs. However, they are still under discussion. Infrared observation is useful for understanding the dusty torus as thermal emission from hot dust with the dust sublimation temperature (~ 1500 K) has been observed in the infrared. We have analyzed infrared spectroscopic data of low-redshift and high-redshift quasars, which are luminous AGNs. For the low-redshift quasars, we constructed the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) with AKARI near-infrared and Spitzer mid-infrared spectra and decomposed the SEDs into a power-law component from the nuclei, silicate features, and blackbody components with different temperatures from the dusty torus. From the decomposition, the temperature of the innermost dusty torus shows the range between 900-2000 K. For the high-redshift quasars, AKARI traced rest-frame optical and near-infrared spectra of AGNs. Combining with WISE data, we have found that the temperature of the innermost dusty torus in high redshift quasars is lower than that in typical quasars. The hydrogen $H{\alpha}$ emission line from the braod emission line region in the quasars also shows narrow full width at half maximum of $3000-4000km\;s^{-1}$. These results indicate that the dusty torus and the broad emission line region are more extended than those of typical quasars.

  • In multiprocessor systems, interconnection network design is critical for overall system performance. Popular interconnection networks, which are generally considered, are meshes, rings, and hierarchical rings. In this paper, we propose (')Torus Ring('), which is a modified version of hierarchical ring. Torus Ring has the same complexity as the hierarchical rings, but the only difference is the way it connects the local rings. It has an advantage over the hierarchical rings when the destination of a packet is the neighbor local ring in the reverse direction. Though the average number of hops in Torus Ring is equal to that of the hierarchical rings when assuming the uniform distribution of each transaction, the benefits of the number of hops are expected to be larger because of the spatial locality in the real environment of parallel programming. In the simulation results, latencies in the interconnection network are reduced by up to 19$\%$, and the execution times are reduced by up to 10$\%$.

  • In this paper, we will analysis embedding between $2^{2n-k}{\times}2^k$ torus and interconnection networks HFN(n,n), HCN(n,n). First, we will prove that $2^{2n-k}{\times}2^k$ torus can be embedded into HFN(n,n) with dilation 3, congestion 4 and the average dilation is less than 2. And we will show that $2^{2n-k}{\times}2^k$ torus can be embedded into HCN(n,n) with dilation 3 and the average dilation is less than 2. Also, we will prove that interconnection networks HFN(n,n) and HCN(n,n) can be embedded into $2^{2n-k}{\times}2^k$ torus with dilation O(n). These results mean so many developed algorithms in torus can be used efficiently in HFN(n,n) and HCN(n,n).

  • Adhesion and friction forces influence adversely on performance and durability of MEMS. It has been reported that the adhesion and friction forces can be reduced with the introduction of micro surface bumps into the contacting interfaces. In this study experiments were conducted to investigate comparatively the effect of hemispherical and torus micro bumps on the adhesion and friction forces. It is confirmed that micro bumps reduce the adhesion and friction forces, and their effect is more pronounced with the bumps of smaller outer boundary radius. Moreover, the results shows that the torus bumps exhibit more rapid decrease of the adhesion and friction forces with the decrease in the outer boundary radius of bump than the hemispherical bumps. When the magnitude of adhesion force is same, the torus bumps generate smaller friction force than the hemispherical bumps. The usage of hemispherical and torus bumps to reduce the adhesion and friction forces in MEMS is discussed.

  • The AGN unification model suggested the presence of obscuring material, a dusty torus, to explain the various types of AGN. IR SED model fitting is a crucial tool to probe the structure and properties of the dusty torus. We use a sample of 16 local quasi-stellar objects in Martinez-Paredes et al. (2017) with obtained NIR and MIR high-angular resolution (~0.3") imaging data from EMIR, CIRCE and CanariCam on the 10.4-m Gran Telescopio CANARIAS (GTC) while 4 objects have NIR high-angular resolution photometry from NICMOS/HST from the literature. The unresolved NIR emission from the NIR image analysis and low-resolution Spitzer/IRS spectra are used to construct NIR-MIR SEDs covering a larger spectral range. We investigate the sensitivity of the geometrical (e.g. viewing angle) and physical parameters (e.g. optical depth) of the clumpy dusty torus model of Nenkova et al. and the clumpy disk+outflow model of Hoenig et al. We aim to investigate the minimal dataset needed to well constrain the parameters of the models and derive the properties of the dusty torus. These results will allow us to plan future observations for a larger sample of high luminosity AGNs with the James Webb Space Telescope and the Giant Magellan Telescope.

  • Adhesive contact characteristics of torus-shaped bumps, which are commonly used to reduce friction and stiction in hard disks, are analyzed to examine the applicability to the MEMS structure. The analysis is conducted with the finite element technique considering the adhesive force. Torus-shaped bumps of various rim and bump radii are analyzed. The jump-to-contact behavior, adhesion hysterisis, pull-off forces, contact region and pressure, and surface and subsurface stresses are presented and discussed. Analysis results in the absence of adhesive force are also presented to identify the effect of adhesive force.

  • In this paper, we classify all twisted torus knots which are doubly middle Seifert-fibered. Also we show that all of these knots possibly except a few admit Dehn surgery producing a non-Seifert-fibered graph manifold which consists of two Seifert-fibered spaces over the disk with two exceptional fibers, glued together along their boundaries. This provides another infinite family of knots in $S^3$ admitting Dehn surgery yielding such manifolds as done in [5].

  • In this short note, we consider a family of linear representations of the braid group and the fundamental group of a punctured torus bundle over the circle. We construct an irreducible (special) unitary representation of the fundamental group of a closed 3-manifold obtained by the Dehn filling.

  • By relaxing the requirements for a sequence of functions to be a delta sequence, a space of Boehmians on the torus ${\beta}(T^d)$ is constructed and studied. The space ${\beta}(T^d)$ contains the space of distributions as well as the space of hyperfunctions on the torus. The Fourier transform is a continuous mapping from ${\beta}(T^d)$ onto a subspace of Schwartz distributions. The range of the Fourier transform is characterized. A necessary and sufficient condition for a sequence of Boehmians to converge is that the corresponding sequence of Fourier transforms converges in $D'({\mathbb{R}}^d)$.
