The objective of this study is to construct the TPU aerodynamic database with wind tunnel test data of overall wind loads and responses on tall buildings. In this study, wind tunnel tests were conducted to investigate characteristics of wind forces and the effect of wind load combination by cross-correlation analysis among along-wind overturning moment, across-wind overturning moment and torsional moment on a tall building with various side ratios(D/B=0.33, 0.50, 0.77, 0.83, 0.91, 1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2.0 and 3.0) for different terrain roughnesses. The results of wind tunnel tests were compared with those of past literatures. As a result, there was no significant effects of changing of terrain roughnesses on moment coefficients and power spectral densities of across-wind overturning moment coefficients and torsional moment coefficients with various side ratios. Further, these results were good agreement with those of past literatures. From cross-correlation analysis, the across-wind overturning moment coefficients were highly correlated with the torsional moment coefficients. The results of this study will be helpful for practical designers in preliminary design stage.
Statement of problem: Injuries along with discomfort may result on the oral mucosa when non-rigid material is used as the major connector in construction of RPD, since nonrigid major connectors transmit unstable forces throughout the appliance. Titanium which recently draws attention as a substitute of Co-Cr had a difficulty in fabricating due to high melting temperature but the development of casting technique makes it possible to apply to the clinical case. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the rigidity and the castability of titanium upper major connector by design and make a comparison with Co-Cr major connectors which are widely used in clinical cases now. Material and methods: Casting was done using CP-Ti(Grage 2) (Kobe still Co., Japan) for the experimental groups, and 4 various designs namely palatal strap, U-shaped bar, A-P strap, and complete palatal plate were casted and 5 of each designs were included in each group. For the experimental group, Universal testing machine (Model 4502; Instron, Canton, Mass) was used to apply vertical torsional force vertically to the horizontal plane of major connector. In the second experiment, Vertical compressive force was applied to the horizontal plane of major connector. As a comparative group, Co-Cr major connector was equally manufactured and underwent the same experimental procedures Strain rate was measured after constant loading for one minute duration, and statistical analysis was done with SPSS ver.10.0 for WIN(SPSS. Inc. USA). From the one-way ANOVA and variance analysis (P=0.05), Scheffe's multiple comparison test implemented. Results: 1. Least amount of strain was observed with complete palatal plate followed by A-P bar, palatal bar, and the U-shaped bar having most amount of strain. 2. In all designs of titanium major connector, less strain rate was observed under compressive loading than under torsional loading showing more resistance to lateral force. 3. For titanium major connector, less strain rate was observed when the force is applied to the first premolar area rather than to the second molar area indicating more strength with shorter length of lever. 4. In Comparison of Co-Cr major connector with titanium major connector, palatal strap and U-shaped bar designs showed higher strength under torsional force that is statically significant, and under compressive force, no significant difference was observed expert for U-shaped bar. 5. In titanium major connector, complete palatal plate showed lowest success rate in casting when compared with the Co-Cr major connector. Conclusion: Above results prove that when using titanium for major connector, only with designs capable of generating rigidity can the major connector have almost equal amount of rigidity as Co-Cr major connector and show lower success rate in casting when compared with the Co-Cr major connector.
The frequency of a traditional tuned liquid column damper (TLCD) depends solely on the length of liquid column, which imposes certain restrictions on its application to long span cable-stayed bridges during construction. The configuration of a cable-stayed bridge varies from different construction stages and so do its natural frequencies. It is thus difficult to apply TLCD with a fixed configuration to the bridge during construction or it is not economical to design a series of TLCD with different liquid lengths to suit for various construction stages. Semi-active tuned liquid column damper (SATLCD) with adaptive frequency tuning capacity is studied in this paper for buffeting response control of a long span cable-stayed bridge during construction. The frequency of SATLCD can be adjusted by active control of air pressures inside the air chamber at the two ends of the container. The performance of SATLCD for suppressing combined lateral and torsional vibration of a real long span cable-stayed bridge during construction stage is numerically investigated using a finite element-based approach. The finite element model of SATLCD is also developed and incorporated into the finite element model of the bridge for predicting buffeting response of the coupled SATLCD-bridge system in the time domain. The investigations show that with a fixed container configuration, the SATLCD with adaptive frequency tuning can effectively reduce buffeting response of the bridge during various construction stages.
In an actual design, none of the structures with shear behaviors will be designed for torsional moments. Any failure or damages to roofs, infills, shear walls, and braces caused by an earthquake, will inevitably result in relocation of center of mass and rigidity of the structure. With these changes, the dynamic characteristics of structure could be changed during an earthquake at any moment. The main objective of this paper is to obtain the relationship between time-varying eccentricity of load and corner lateral displacement. In this study, various methods have been used to determine the structural response for time-varying lateral corner displacement. As will be seen below, some of the structural calculation methods result in a significant deviation from the actual results, although these methods include the interaction effects of modes. Controlling the lateral displacement of structure can be performed in different ways such as, passive dampers, friction dampers, semi-active systems including the MR damper and active Systems. Selecting and locating these control systems is very important to bring the maximum safety with minimum cost into the structure. According to this study will be show the relation between the corner lateral displacements of structure and time-varying eccentricity by different kind of methods during an earthquake. This study will show that the response of the structure at the corners due to an earthquake can be very destructive and because of changing the eccentricity of load, calculating the maximum possible response of system can be carried out by this method. Finally, some kind of systems must be used for controlling these displacements. The results shows that, the CQC, DSC and exact methods is comply each other but the results of Vanmark method is not comfortable for these kind of buildings.
In this paper, the inelastic buckling behavior of the beam under uniform bending was investigated using the energy-based method, which can tackle problems in fourth order eigenvalue. The pattern of residual stress was not available to satisfy the I-sections manufactured in Korea. however; therefore, the well-known polynomial and simplified pattern of residual stress was adopted in this study. The inelastic lateral-distortional buckling behavior of the beam with I-sections manufactured in Korea was investigated. The study was then extended to the inelastic lateral-torsional buckling of the beam by minimizing the out-of-plane web distortion. The inelastic lateral-torsional buckling results obtained in this paper were compared with the prediction of allowable bending stress given in the Korean steel designers' manual (1995). Results showed that the importance of inelastic lateral-distortional buckling did not arise for beams under uniform bending. Likewise, the design method in KSDM (1995) was proven to bo too conservative for intermediate and short spans of beams without intermediate bracing.
In this paper a development of shaft power measuring system for a small vessel is discussed. It is important that the exact power measurement of marine engine which is used for ship's propulsion since the engine power is related to ship's usage and its shaft design. Two gearwheel and magnetic sensors are adopted to measure torsional angle on the shaft. High resolution encoder is also applied to compensate the output signal from gearwheel. The calculation of shaft power is executed using measured signal and angular velocity of rotating machine and the result is plotted on the monitoring screen.

Shimmy is a self-excited vibration in lateral and torsional directions of a landing gear during either the take-off or landing. It is caused by a couple of conditions such as a low torsional stiffness of the strut, a free-play in the landing gear, a wheel imbalance, or worn parts, and it may make the aircraft unstable. This study was performed for an analysis of the shimmy stability on a small aircraft. A nose landing gear was modeled as a linear system and characterized by state-equations which were used to analyze the stability both in the frequency and time-domain for predicting whether the shimmy occurs and investigating a good design range of the important parameters. The root-locus method and the 4th Runge-Kutta method were used for each analysis. Because the present system has a simple mechanism using a friction to reinforce the stability, the friction, a non-linear factor, was linearized by a describing function and considered in the analysis and observed the result of the instability reduction.

The main object of this study is to determine and compare the structural behavior of base isolated long span highway bridge, $G\ddot{u}lburnu$ Highway Bridge, using single concave friction pendulum (SCFP) and triple concave friction pendulum (TCFP). The bridge is seismically isolated in the design phase to increase the main period and reduce the horizontal forces with moments using SCFP bearings. In the content of the paper, firstly three dimensional finite element model (FEM) of the bridge is constituted using project drawings by SAP2000 software. The dynamic characteristics such as natural frequencies and periods, and the structural response such as displacements, axial forces, shear forces and torsional moments are attained from the modal and dynamic analyses. After, FEM of the bridge is updated using TCFP and the analyses are performed. At the end of the study, the dynamic characteristics and internal forces are compared with each other to extract the TCFP effect. To emphasize the base isolation effect, the non-isolated structural analysis results are added to graphics. The predominant frequencies of bridge non-isolated, isolated with SCFP and isolated with TCFP conditions decreased from 0.849Hz to 0.497Hz and 0.338Hz, respectively. The maximum vertical displacements are obtained as 57cm, 54cm and 44cm for non-isolated, isolated with SCFP and isolated with TCFP conditions, respectively. The maximum vertical displacement reduction between isolated with TCFP bearing and isolated with SCFP bearing bridge is %23. Maximum axial forces are obtained as 60619kN, 18728kN and 7382kN, maximum shear forces are obtained as 23408kN, 17913kN and 16249kN and maximum torsional moments are obtained as 24020kNm, 7619kNm and 3840kNm for non-isolated, isolated with SCFP and isolated with TCFP conditions, respectively.

A rotordynamic analysis was performed with a dry vacuum pump, which is a major equipment in modern semiconductor and LCD manufacturing processes. The system is composed of screw rotors, lobes picking air, helical gears, driving motor, and support rolling element bearings of rotors and motor. The driving motor-screw rotor system has a rated speed of 6,300 rpm, and was modeled utilizing a rotordynamic FE method for analysis, which was verified through 3-D FE analysis and experimental modal analysis. As loadings on the bearings due to the gear action were significant in the system considered, each resultant bearing load was calculated by considering the generalized forces of the gear action as well as the rotor itself. Each resultant bearing loading was used in calculating each stiffness of rolling element bearings. Design goals are to achieve wide separation margins of lateral and torsional critical speeds, and favorable unbalance responses of the rotor in the operating range. Then, a complex rotordynamic analysis of the system was carried out to evaluate its forward synchronous critical speeds, whirl natural frequencies and mode shapes, unbalance responses under various unbalance locations, and torsional interference diagram. Results show that the entire system is well designed in the operating range. In addition, the procedure of rotordynamic analysis for dry vacuum pump rotor-bearing system was proposed and established.

The authors have investigated the NVH problems of drive system in full vehicle test. However it is difficult to define the NVH problems of driveline system. Since it is hard to measure the rotating part and it is vague that only the drive system induces the NVH problem. Vibration in a driveline is presented in this paper. In the experiment, the rear sub-frame and propeller shafts and axle were composed and mounted with rubber each other. For applying the vibration input instead of the torsional vibration effect of an engine, the shaker was taken. In particular, torsional vibration due to fluctuating forced vibration excitation across the joint between driveline and rear sub-frame was carefully examined. Accordingly, the joint response was checked from experiments and the FE-simulation using FRF (frequency response function) analysis was performed. All test results were signal processed and validated against numerical simulations. In present study, the new test bench for measuring the vibration signal and simulating the vehicle chassis system was proposed. The modal value and the mode shape of components were analyzed using the CAE model to identify the important components affecting driveline noise and vibration. It could be reached that the simplified test bench could be well established and be used for design guide and development of the vehicle chassis components.
