  • The game of Go originated from ancient China is regarded as one of the most difficult challenges in the filed of AI. Over the past few years, the top computer Go programs based on MCTS have surprisingly beaten professional players with handicap. MCTS is an approach that simulates a random sequence of legal moves until the game is ended, and replaced the traditional knowledge-based approach. We applied the UCT algorithm which is a MCTS variant to the game of Tic-Tac-Toe for finding the best first move, and compared it with the result generated by a pure MCTS. Furthermore, we introduced and compared the performances of epsilon-Greedy algorithm and UCB algorithm for solving the Multi-Armed Bandit problem to understand the UCB.

  • The aim of the present study was to investigate age-related differences in stepping behavior in response to sensory perturbations of postural balance. The participants for this study were 2 healthy elderly adults (mean age=76.0) and 2 younger adults (mean age=25.5). Subjects were asked to step over a 10 cm high obstacle at self-paced speed with the right limb to land on the primary target (normal step length) that is 10 cm in diameter. However, if, during movement, the light was illuminated, then the subject had to step on the secondary target (long step length). It was planned that the onset of the light would be prior to peak Fx of swing limb, between swing peak Fx and swing toe-off, and after swing toe-off. In the younger adults these secondary visual cues were provided at mean times of 240 ms (standard deviation (SD)=11), 402 ms (SD=13), and 476 ms (SD=88) following the movement onset. Corresponding mean times for the healthy elderly were 150 ms (SD=67), 352 ms (SD=39), and 562 ms (SD=115). Results showed great changes in both group and visual cue condition in Fx ground reaction forces and temporal events following the swing toe-off. Swing limb acceleration force (Fx) and stance peak Fx1 was much greater in the young adults compared to the older adults. Both young and older adults increased stance peak Fx2 in the visual cue condition compared to normal stepping. There was no difference in stance peak Fx2 between the visual cue conditions in both groups. Similarly, the time to stance peak Fx2 was much longer for the visual cue condition than for the normal stepping. It was not different between the visual cue conditions in the young adults, but in the elderly mid and late cue was much greater than early cue. In addition, time to stance peak Fx2 and swing and stance time were much longer in the older adults compared to the young adults for the visual cue conditions. These results suggest that unlike young adults, elderly adults did not flexibly modify their responses to unexpected changes in step length while stepping over obstacles.

  • Recently, a mesh-size insensitive structural stress definition that provides a stress state at weld toe with relatively larger mesh size compared to conventional approaches has been proposed. The structural stress definition is based on the elementary structural mechanics theory and provides an effective measure of a stress state in front of weld toe. In this study, as an experimental validation of structural stress method in obtaining the fatigue strength of weldments, a series of fatigue test has carried out for longi-web connections, which are representative of ship-like structures. Based on the result from this study, it is expected to develop a more precise fatigue strength evaluation technique and to reduce time and cost associated with the fatigue design of ship and offshore structures.

  • Journal of the Korean Society of Clothing and Textiles Vol. 18, No. 3 (1994) p. 387∼394 In this study, the restriction of slacks (blue jean) versus box pleats skirt was investigated, from the view point of peripheral blood flow at the toe according to motion variation and E.M.G. analysis of leg muscles after walking on the flat or going up and down stairways. Besides, the pressure of slacks on the lower extrimity was measured statically and dynamically. The main results were summerized as follows; 1. The clothing pressure applied by slacks was; each one of thigh and lower leg was 18.2 g/ cm2 and 22.1 g/cm2 in upright, 63.4 g/cm2 and 26.6 g/cm2 in sitting on the chair, on both sides of thigh and lower leg 272.0 g/cm2 over in squatting. 2. When the motion starts from upright, the dynamic clothing pressure reach their peak before the motions end. When the motion ends and the body comes to a still condition, the clothing pressure grow lower and indicate a constant value. but when the body starts moving again to return to upright, the pressures once grow higher and go to zero value after reaching the peak. The pressure on the knee show much greater than those on the hip. This can be because these pressures depend on the degree of skin stretching motion and of its curvature. 3. The surface E.M.G. in leg muscles M. rectus femoris and M. gastrocnemius were recoreded. In the case of wearing slacks, two muscles were activated much more than wearing skirt. 4. The peripheral blood flow at the toe by wearing slacks was lower than wearing skirt. Also the case when squatting, the peripheral blood flow at the toe was low.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the changes of the relative impulse of the foot when carrying 5 types of schoolbag during level walking. Methods: Forty-four normal subjects were divided into 5 groups according to the method of carrying a bag: carrying no bag (condition 1), a backpack (condition 2), a shoulder bag (condition 3), a cross bag (condition 4) and a one-hand bag (condition 5). To evaluate the partial relative impulse, 7 areas were measured on the sole of a foot: the hallux, toe, 1st metatarsal head (Met1) and the 2nd & 3rd metatarsal heads (Met2/3), the 4th & 5th metatarsal heads (Met4/5), mid foot and heel. Repeated one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and independent t-tests were used to analyze the statistical data. Results: In the right foot, the relative impulses in every areas revealed no significant difference (p>0.05), however, the relative impulses at Met1, Met2/3, Met4/5 and heel were significantly different between the different conditions (p<0.05). There were significant differences on comparing the relative impulse between left and right foot within one condition, the mid foot in condition 2, as well as the hallux and Met1 in condition 3 (p<0.05). In condition 4, the toe, Met1, Met4/5 and mid foot were significantly different (p<0.05). The values at the hallux, toe and Met1 in condition 5 also were significantly different (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings showed that the symmetrical relative impulse of the foot was present in the case of carrying a backpack, but there was an extra load on specific regions and asymmetrical relative impulses in the case of carrying a shoulder bag, a across bag and a one-hand bag. • It is identified that an initial person who built of 'Seoul Gyedong Modernized Hanok(former Min Hyeong-gi house)' used as 'Bukchon Culture Center' in present, was not Min Hyeong-gi, but his wife, Yu Jin-gyeong, and she built it when 8 years went on after his death(1879~1973), and the construction year was at the gate of Chuseok in 1921. Yu Jin-gyeong was Head Family's Eldest Daughter-in-law in family of Yeo Heung-min who was an influential person at the late Joseon Dynasty and was widow who had only son for 3 generations. And she built this house and moved to gain daughter and live futher grandchilds together in law in new nest. It is arranged that an annex surrounds with main building as the central figure. And this house emulates Yeonkeong-dang in backyard of the Changdeok Palace for 'preservation of main building' and Chim-bang-ga-toe applied on a bedroom in a palace is applied around nobleman family's the main room. It is rare case and expresses that a palace factor is borrowed. Yu Jin-gyeong's house is that a tradition Hanok is adjusted closely in city and central and basing mode as 'protective bedding' and building concept as 'a noble and protective architecture' is realized. So it has a character that development of Hangrang architecture is appeared and Head Family's Eldest Daughter-in-law widow of modern upper class had a special benefit. As well as, a meaning that it is experimental house based on tradition and is build of Hanok with housekeeping as the central figure for appear a form which has minimal Hangrang for housekeeping in yangban family of modern city, can be found.

  • Before and after the test constructions, and after an 11-month hiatus from the pilot pile installations, the in-situ tests (CPT, SPT) were carried out at the ground adjacent to the noise- and vibration-free screw concrete piles installed by 2 kinds of construction methods (i.e., the toe-jetting shoe type, the pre-digging type). In the toe-jetting shoe type construction methods, after construction, the soil strength within 3.5D (where, D = pile diameter) from the pile center decreased greatly by about 46% of the original ground and, after an 11-month hiatus, a strength recovery adjacent to the piles appeared about 71% of the original ground. In the pre-digging type construction methods, a strength recovery adjacent to the piles appeared 100% of the strength of the original ground.

  • This study was aimed to evaluate the characteristics of impact sound of golf driver according to impact points of its face. In order to get the consistent impact sounds, the apparatus for free golf ball drop was prepared and used. Timed amplitude patterns and maximum spectral peaks of the impact sounds were variant according to the impact points of driver face. As an alternative method of impact sound analysis, cumulative sum of spectral power (cumsum) was used to distinguish between impact sounds according to the impact positions. From the comparison of frequencies representing 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% of cumsum of impact sound, 40% cumsum frequency of the center of driver face was lower than that of the toe and the heel. This finding suggests that the impact sound from the center of driver face has higher spectral power of low frequency component than that of the toe and heel.

  • Korean large limestone mines started to employ bulk emulsion explosives to improve the productivity in early 2000s. As the application of the bulk emulsion explosives became common in the mid 2000s, the bulk emulsion application increases overall performance but it tends to decrease the moving and heaving because it lacks in gas volume and heat energy. Therefore, the chemical gassing technique was introduced to improve the blasting efficiency of the existing bulk emulsion explosives. The chemical gassing is a technique to replacing GMB(Glass Micro Balloon), which is used for a sensitizer, with gassing agent to chemically sensitize it. This paper introduces the case of successful application of chemical gassing in a Korean large limestone mine. We also compared and evaluated the blast and work efficiency between bulk emulsion GMB & gassing agent (chemical gassing). The results indicate that the replacement of GMB with gassing agent improved fragmentation in the upper part and toe of a bench as well as moving efficiency of the material.

  • The hoof parameters - hoof angle, toe length, heel length, hoof width, hoof length, heel width, hoof circumference - of 1372 Thoroughbred racehorses in Seoul racecourse were measured. Each parameter was compared with the racing time. The parameters were as follows: fore hoof angle $50.1{\pm}0.09^{\circ}$, hind hoof angle $50.1{\pm}0.08^{\circ}$; fore toe fength $82.8{\pm}0.21mm$, hind toe length $88.8{\pm}0.23mm$; fore heel length $28.6{\pm}0.19mm$, hind heel length $24.5{\pm}0.19mm$; fore hoof width $130.9{\pm}0.30mm$, hind hoof width $125.7{\pm}0.28mm$; fore hoof length $133.3{\pm}0.22mm$, hind hoof length $28.1{\pm}0.22mm$; fore heel width $61.2{\pm}0.32mm$, hind heel width $67.9{\p}0.35mm$; fore hoof circumference $264.2{\pm}0.48mm$, hind hoof circumference $253.8{\pm}0.40mm$. Apart from the hoof angle, the hoof parameters increased in proportion to the body weight. The parameters of forelimbs affected the racing time more than those of hindlimbs. The correlation between hoof parameters and racing time was shown more in short-distance race (1000M) than in long-distance race(2200M). The parameters that had correlation with racing time were hoof width, hoof length, heel width of forelimbs and heel width of hindlimbs.
