  • This paper investigates the dynamic response of a functionally graded material (FGM) coated half-plane excited by distributed time harmonic loading. Three types of typical distributed surface loads, including uniform load, Hertz load, and square-root singular load, are considered. The mass density and elastic modulus of the FGM coating are supposed to be described by the exponential function. The material damping is modelled by a linearly hysteretic damping which is expressed by a complex modulus in the time harmonic motion. Using Fourier integral transform technique and numerical integral method, the effects of the excitation frequency, gradient index, damping, and load type on the dynamic stresses and displacements are discussed.

  • With the advent of smartphones, people can access various information through the internet anytime and anywhere. Even in the vehicle environment, users can use the internet. Users interact with web and applications every day and get information. However, as the amount of data to be processed by the program increases, users inevitably receive a message to wait. User waiting is an inconvenient experience, but minimizing user waiting is the best way because there is time required for data processing. However, if the service processing time exceeds the expected time, users experience more severe boredom and pain. Therefore, various methods and researches are being conducted to alleviate the boredom of user waiting. The most commonly used method to alleviate user waiting boredom is loading. In this study, we investigated the effect of skeleton loading, the latest loading technique, on user waiting experience, and how attractive it is as a design technique in terms of UI compared to other loading techniques.

  • Objectives: The objective of this study is compare the rate of marginal bone resorption around hydroxyapatite-coated implants given different loading times in order to evaluate their stability. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted retrospectively for one year, targeting 41 patients whose treatment areas were the posterior maxilla and the mandible. Osstem TS III HA (Osstem Implant Co., Busan, Korea) and Zimmer TSV-HA (Zimmer Dental, Carlsbad, CA, USA), which employ the new hydroxyapatite coating technique, were used. The patients were divided into two groups - immediate and delayed loading - and the bone level at the time of loading commencement and after one year of loading was measured using periapical radiography. Differences between the groups were evaluated using Mann-Whitney (${\alpha}$=0.05). Results: For all patients as a single group, the survival rate of the implants was 100%, and the mean marginal bone loss was $0.26{\pm}0.59mm$. In comparison of the differences by loading, mean marginal bone loss of $0.32{\pm}0.69mm$ was recorded for the immediate loading group whereas the delayed loading group had mean marginal bone loss of $0.16{\pm}0.42mm$. However, the difference was not significant (P>0.05). Conclusion: Within the limited observation period of one year, predictable survival rates can be expected when using immediately loaded hydroxyapatite-coated implants.

  • A theoretical model for flexural behavior of strengthened reinforced concrete beam is developed based on displacement controlled nonlinear finite element method in this study. The developed model is shown to reasonably reproducing the experimental results of variously strengthened reinforced concrete beam. Parametric studies for the strengthened reinforced concrete beam at different loading stages are then performed using this model in order to assess the effect of loading stages at the time of strengthening on characteristic values of strengthened beam under flexure. It was found that depending on loading stages of a beam, deflections at yielding and at ultimate loads are more influenced than corresponding load capacities.

  • Conventional implant protocols required a load-free healing period of three to six months between placement and functional loading of the implants. Many efforts have been made to minimize the duration of treatment time. Several literatures have documented immediate function with provisional or definitive prosthesis within a week of the placement in response to these demands. In addition, immediate implant placement has advantages such as shortened treatment time and preservation of soft tissue architectures. This article presents immediate implant placement into fresh extraction sockets followed by functional immediate loading with provisional prosthesis on canine and premolars for a patient having canine protected occlusion.

  • The combination of cobalt ferrite and natural rubber has a potential to enhance the functional properties of rubber ferrite composites available on the market. In this study, cobalt ferrite was synthesized by the sol-gel method with tapioca starch as a cheating agent and then incorporated into natural rubber using an internal mixer. The curing characteristics, magnetic hysteresis, complex permeability, and permittivity of the rubber ferrite composites were studied as a function of the loading from 0 to 25 phr. The cure time and scorch time tended to reduce with the addition of non-reinforced cobalt ferrite fillers. The remanent and saturation magnetizations were linearly proportional to the cobalt ferrite loading, consistent with the rule of mixture. On the other hand, the increase in cobalt ferrite loading from 5 to 25 phr slightly affected the coercive field and the complex permeability. Using the maximum loading of 25 phr, both real and imaginary parts of the permittivity were significantly raised and reduced with the frequency in the 10-300 MHz range.

  • An application of the genetic algorithm(GA) to the loading sequencing problem in port container terminals is presented in this paper. The efficiency of loading operations in port container terminals is highly dependent on the loading sequence of export containers. In order to sequence the loading operation, we hove to determine the route of each container handling equipment (transfer crane or straddle carried in the yard during the loading operation. The route of a container handling equipment is determined in a way of minimizing the total container handling time. An encoding method is developed which keeps intermediate solutions feasible and speeds up the evolution process. We determine the sequence of each individual container which the container handling equipment picks up at each yard-bay as well as the visiting sequence of yard-bays of the equipment during the loading operation. A numerical experiment is carried out to evaluate the performance of the algorithm developed.

  • We report the effect of physical load on the stability of organic solar cells under physical loads. The active layers in organic solar cells were fabricated with bulk heterojunction films (BHJ) films of poly (3-hexylthiophene) and phenyl-$C_{61}$-butyric methyl ester. The loading time was varied up to 60 s by keeping the physical load constant. Results showed that the open circuit voltage was not influenced by the physical load but other solar cell parameters were sensitive to the loading time. The fill factor was very slightly increased at 15 s, while short circuit current density was well kept for 30 s. The power conversion efficiency was reasonably maintained for 45 s but became significantly decreased by the continuous loading for 60 s.

  • In the ring loading problem with demand splitting, traffic demands are given for each pall of nodes in an undirected ring network and a flow is routed in either of the two directions, clockwise and counter-clockwise. The load of a link is the sum of the flows routed through the link and the objective of the problem is to minimize the maximum load on the ring. The fastest a1gorithm to date is Myung, Kim and Tcha's a1gorithm that runs in Ο(n|K|) time where n is the number of nodes and K is the index set of the origin-destination pairs of nodes having flow traffic demands. Here we develop an a1gorithm for the ring loading problem with demand splitting that improves the rerouting step of Myung, Kim and Tcha's a1gorithm arid runs in Ο(min{n|K|, n$^2$}) time.

  • An integrated heuristic approach based on genetic algorithms (GAs) is proposed for solving the container selection and loading problems. The GA for container selection solves a two-dimensional knapsack problem, determining a set of containers to minimize the transportation or shipment cost. The GA for container loading solves for the weighted coefficients in the evaluation functions that are applied in selecting loading positions and boxes to be loaded, so that the volume utilization is maximized. Several loading constraints such as box orientation, stack priority, stack stability, and container stability are also incorporated into the algorithm. In general, our computational results based on randomly generated data and problems from the literature suggest that the proposed heuristic provides a good solution in a reasonable amount of computational time.
