Ultrasound Image Enhancement Based on Automatic Time Gain Compensation and Dynamic Range Control

  • For efficient and accurate diagnosis of ultrasound images, appropriate time gain compensation(TGC) and dynamic range(DR) control of ultrasound echo signals are important. TGC is used for compensating the attenuation of ultrasound echo signals along the depth, and DR controls the image contrast. In recent ultrasound systems, these two factors are automatically set by a system and/or manually adjusted by an operator to obtain the desired image quality on the screen. In this paper, we propose an algorithm to find the optimized parameter values far TGC and DR automatically. In TGC optimization, we determine the degree of attenuation compensation along the depth by dividing an image into vertical strips and reliably estimating the attenuation characteristic of ultrasound signals. For DR optimization, we define a novel cost function by properly using the characteristics of ultrasound images. We obtain experimental results by applying the proposed algorithm to a real ultrasound(US) imaging system. The results verify that the proposed algorithm automatically sets values of TGC and DR in real-time such that the subjective quality of the enhanced ultrasound images may be sufficiently high for efficient and accurate diagnosis.

  • In this paper, a robust discrete-time adaptive control with compensation is proposed for single-input single-output discrete-time plants which have unmodeled dynamics. The stability of the overall system is studied using the conic sector stability theorems when a normalized constant gain parameter adaptation algorithm and a properly chosen compensation are used. An illustrative exmple shows that this compensation can also increase the parameter adaptation speed. And a method of compensation using the adaptive observation is also discussed.

  • 본 논문에서는 직접 변환 방식의 수신기에서 발생하는 I 채널 및 Q 채널 간의 이득 및 위상 불일치를 보상하는 방법에 대해서 기술한다. 직접 변환 방식의 복조기에서의 이득 및 위상 불일치를 가변 스텝(Variable Step-size) 적응적 루프를 이용하여 블라인드(blind) 등화 방식으로 보상하는 알고리즘을 된 논문에서 제안한다. 이득 및 위상 불일치를 보상하기 위해 일반적인 블라인더 등화 기법을 이용할 경우 루프 이득에 따라 수렴속도와 지터(jitter) 영향이 trade-off 관계에 있다. 본 논문에서는 이들 문제를 극복하기 위하여 적응적 루프의 이득을 오차에 따라 가변 하는 방법을 제시한다. 본 논문에서는 가변 스텝 적응적 루프를 이용하여 빠른 수렴속도와 지터의 영향을 줄이도록 하는 방법을 제시하였고, 모의실험을 통하여 신호 손실 보상과 수렴 속도의 향상을 확인한다.

  • This paper deals with parameter tuning of the Power System Stabilizer (PSS) for 612 MVA thermal power plants in the KEPCO system and its validation in a field test. In this paper, the selection of parameters, such as lead-lag time constants for phase compensation and system gain, is optimized using linear and eigenvalue analyses. This is then verified through the time-domain transient stability analysis. In the next step, the performance of PSS is finally verified by the generator's on-line field test. After the field test, measured and simulated data are also compared to prove the effectiveness of the models used in the simulations.

  • In this paper, a hierarchical state feedback control method is proposed for the optimal tracking of large-scale discrete-time systems with time-delays. The state feedback gain matrix and the compensation vector are computed from the optimal trajectories of the state variables and control inputs obtained hierarchically by the open-loop control method based on the interaction prediction method. The resulting feedback gain matrix and the compensation vector are optimal for the given initial condition. Computer simulation results show that the proposed method has better control performance and fewer second level iterations than the Tamura method.

  • This paper presents a new global intensity compensation method for extracting moving object in a visual surveillance system by compensating time variant intensity changes of background region. The method that compensates a little changes of intensity due to time variant illumination change and automatic gain control of camera is called global intensity compensation. The proposed method expresses global intensity change with a mapping table to describe complex form of intensity change while the previous method models this global intensity change with a simple function as a straight line. The proposed method builds the mapping table by calculating the cross histogram between two images and then by selecting an initial point for generating the mapping table by using Hough transform applied to the cross histogram image. Then starting from the initial point, the mapping table is generated according to the proposed algorithm based on the assumption that reflects the characteristic of global intensity change. Experimental results show that the proposed method makes the compensation error much smaller than the previous GIC method

새로운 직류 옵셋 제거 필터에 의한 정확한 페이저 추출에 관한 연구 (A Study on Accurate Phasor Extraction Using a New DC Offset Elimination Filter)

  • In this paper, a new DC offset elimination filter is proposed for an accurate phasor extraction of fundamental frequency component. The proposed method can eliminate a DC offset component which is decayed exponentially. The proposed method uses only one cycle of data for phasor extraction computation, which does not need to preset the time constant of the DC offset component. Also, the other advantages of the proposed method is that gain compensation or phase compensation is not required after filtering. Simulations using ATP were performed to evaluate the performance of the proposed filter method, and the results were compared to the ones obtained by conventional methods.

  • 본 논문에서는 표준 대역통과 필터와 무증폭 바이패스 이득의 조합을 이용한 구조에 근거하여 전문가용 디지털 오디오에 적합한 정교한 주파수응답을 갖고, 실시간 시스템에서 적은 계산량과 메모리로 구현이 용이한 2차 디지털 픽킹 필터의 설계방식을 제안하였다. 이와 같이 설계된 디지털 픽킹 필터는 이득요인에 따라 필터의 대역폭이 왜곡되는 단점을 Q-보정을 통해 제거하였으며, 컨포말 변환에 의한 설계보다 수학적으로 간단하고 구현이 용이하며, 적은 계산량 및 메모리를 필요로 한다.

  • For efficient and accurate diagnosis of ultrasound images, the time gain compensation (TGC) and dynamic range (DR) control of the ultrasound echo signal are important. TGC is for compensating the attenuation of the ultrasound echo signal along the depth, and DR is used to control the image contrast. In this paper, we propose an algorithm for finding the optimized values of TGC and DR automatically. For TGC, the degree of compensation is determined along the depth based on the effective attenuation estimation of ultrasound signal. For DR optimization, we introduce a novel cost function on the basis of the characteristics of ultrasound image, which provides the minimum value at the optimal DR. Experiments have been performed by applying the proposed algorithm to a real US imaging system. The results show that the algorithm automatically can determine the values of TGC and DR in realtime so that the subjective quality of the corresponding US image may be good enough for diagnosis.

부하압력 피이드백 보상기를 장착한 전기-유압서보계의 동특성 개선에 관한 연구 (A Study Compensation Method for Dynamic Characteristics in Electro-Hydraulic Servosystem Equipping Load Pressure Feedback Compensator)

  • In this paper, a simple structured feedback compensation scheme for a electro-hydraulic servo system to keep the response characteristics unchanged regardless of the load variation is proposed. In electro-hydraulic servo system, servovalve is most important control element. But the relation between input corrent and output flowrate of the servovalve has properties as follows; firstly, in spite of constant input current, output flowrate decreases as load pressure increases, secondly, according to frequency response of typical servovalve, the characteristics of gain and phase shift is something like 2'nd order system. Load pressure feedback compensation method has been applied to eliminate the first influence, the second influence has been improved by phase lead compensation method. As a result of above compensation methods, regardless of variation load condition, spring and inertia load, the compensation scheme has been verified to be effective within the range of frequency less than 25Hz by static response and dynamic response in time domain and frequency domain through experiments.
