Study on Phase Balancing by Thyristor-Controlled Shunt Compensators (다이리스터제어 병렬보상기를 이용한 상평형에 관한 연구)

  • In recent years, a number of thyristor-controlled shunt compensators have been used in industrial and utility systems for phase balancing, power-factor correction and flicker reduction. This paper describes a simple and basic control scheme and circuits for shunt compensator with a fixed capacitor and thyristor-controlled reactor. Feedforward-control scheme is applied, and compensating currents are computed from the symmetrical components of the disturbed system. A 8 bit microprocessor is used for the computation of the compensating currents as well as for the measurements of the symmetric components. A 3-phase 1 KVA compensator is developed and a good reduction of the unbalance factor of the power source is achieved using it.

  • A new 600 V dual gate transistor employing thyristor action, which incorporates floating PN junction and trench gate IGBT, is proposed to improve the forward current-voltage characteristics and the short circuit ruggedness. Our two-dimensional numerical simulation shows that the proposed device exhibits low forward voltage drop and eliminates the snapback phenomena compared with conventional trench gate IGBT and EST The proposed device achieves high current saturation characteristics by separating floating N+ emitter and cathode. The proposed device achieves low saturation current value compared with conventional devices, and the short-circuit ruggedness is improved. The proposed device may be suitable for the use of high voltage switching applications.

  • This paper aims at investigating the operating-mode characteristics of two-module Thyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) as an equivalent of the multi-module TCSC in a simple three-phase power transmission system. The load flow program is developed to analyze the steady-state characteristics of two-module TCSC system and to find the thyristor firing angles for the required real power flow. The stability calculation program is developed with Poincare mapping theory. Simulation studies of the TCSC power transmission system using EMTP are performed to evaluate the transient characteristics of two-module TCSC as a real power flow controller and to rpove the results of the load flow calculation and the stability analysis. In the process of the study, the operating-mode characteristics of two-module TCSC are evaluated and compared to those of single-module TCSC.

  • An analysis of thyristor firing and protection circuit applied to SFC(static Frequency Converter) is presented. This consists of firing circuit when thyristor is connected in series, one of overvoltage protection and monitor databack circuit of thyristor states etc. Also, each characteristic of foreign products was studied in this paper.

  • This paper proposes a new induction heating system composed of a thyristor PWM rectifier with a resonant commutation circuit. The operation of proposed system as first analyzed by a theoretical approach with equivalent circuits. And its verification was performed by computer simulations with EMTP. The proposed system can provide a solution for the power factor problem of the existing high-power induction heating system, which uses the line-commutated thyristor bridge in rectifier side.

  • This paper investigates the experimental and simulated time-varying magnetic field generation in a chlor-alkali manufacturing process. 19kA thyristor-based rectifier is modeled and analyzed. The performance is compared and evaluated on the basis of exposure guidelines from ICNIRP. The mechanical structure of current carrying conductor is simplified as an infinite long busbar model and low frequency harmonic contents up to 65kHz are considered. Thyristor rectifier generates a significant amount of low frequency magnetic field harmonic contents both at ac and dc busbar of rectifier infringing the limit of ICNIRP. Along with simulation analysis the experimental measurement of the time-varying magnetic field in ac input busbar, rectifier block, dc load and busbar are presented. The experimental test results partly confirm the simulation results.

  • 본 논문에서는 전류형 HVDC Thyristor Valve 의 연속운전 시험을 위한 개선된 방식의 합성시험회로를 제안한다. 제안하는 방식은 기존의 저전압 대전류원 회로에 단상 풀-브리지 인버터를 적용하여 회로를 간소화 하였고, 이전보다 간단한 방법으로 보조 사이리스터 밸브를 턴-오프 한다. 제안하는 방식에 대한 구간별 동작 원리를 설명하고, 타당성을 검증하기 위해 시뮬레이션 분석과 축소모형 실험을 실시하였다.

  • The design concept for 8kV light triggering thyristor(LTT) with integrated BOD was discussed here in detail. The trade-off between light triggering input source againsthigh dV/dt limitation has been treated via grooved P-base for gate design. The main application point used for high voltage DC transmission(HVDC) was represented.

  • The electrical stress has a major effect on the long-term reliability of the thyristor. Therefore, it is needed to analyze the relationship between reliability and stress. In this paper, we investigate the device failure mechanism which induced by the stress. And also investigate the effect of the thermal stress on the device failure and relationship between electrical and thermal stress. Two-dimensional process simulator ATHENA and device simulator ATLAS are used to analyze the failure mechanism of the device.
