Analysis of slope stability based on evaluation of force balance

  • The paper presents a new approach for the analysis of slope stability that is based on the numerical solution of a differential equation, which describes the thrust force distribution within the potential sliding mass. It is based on the evaluation of the thrust force value at the endpoint of the slip line. A coupled approximation of the slip and thrust lines is applied. The model is based on subdivision of the sliding mass into slices that are normal to the slip line and the equilibrium differential equation is obtained as the slice width approaches zero. Opposed to common iterative limit equilibrium procedures the present method is straightforward and gives an estimate of slope stability at the value of the safety factor prescribed in advance by standard requirements. Considering the location of the thrust line within the soil mass above the trial slip line eliminates the possible development of a tensile thrust force in the stable and critical states of the slope. The location of the upper boundary point of the thrust line is determined by the equilibrium of the upper triangular slice. The method can be applied to any smooth shape of a slip line, i.e., to a slip line without break points. An approximation of the slip and thrust lines by quadratic parabolas is used in the numerical examples for a series of slopes.

  • This paper describes a new pivoting technique to improve bearing performance in pivoted pad thrust bearings. This new technique adjusts the pivot line in a line pivoted pad thrust bearing to be parallel to the trailing edge of a sector shaped pad. Bearing performance factors such as load carrying capacity, frictional torque and flow rate are numerically investigated for conventional point-pivoted and line-pivoted pads and for the new parallel-line pivoting technique. It is shown that the load carving capacity can be maximized with the new technique.

  • In this paper, linearized dynamic characteristics of parallel line pivoted pad thrust bearing (here-inafter refer to PLP thrust bearing) was analyzed by perturbation method with inlet pressure. Inlet pressure and excitation frequency influence dynamic characteristics of PLP thrust bearing at all operating conditions, such as angular pivot position, mass of pad. Therefore, the characteristics have to be analyzed with inlet pressure, excitation frequency, mass of pad and thickness of pad. Otherwise, the analysis may be over or under estimate.

  • In this paper, linearized dynamic characteristics of parallel line pivoted pad thrust bearing(hereinafter refer to PLP thrust bearing) was analyzed by perturbation method with inlet pressure. Inlet pressure and excitation frequency irfluence dynamic characteristics of PLP thrust bearing at all operating condition, such as angular pivot position, mass of pad. Therefore, the characteristics is have to analyzed with inlet pressure, excitation frequency, mass of pad and thickness of pad. Otherwise, the analysis is able to estimate the characteristics over or under.

  • In this paper the lubrication performances of line pivoted pad thrust bearing and point pivoted pad thrust bearing are studied by a numerical analysis. The running characteristic parameters such as nondimensional load carrying capacity nondimensional friciton power loss nondimensional flow rate and film thickness ratios are calculated for various circumferential pivot positions. The results provide a usdful data for the selection of pivot position in a pivoted and thrust bearing.

  • This paper presents a virtual instrumentation(VI) system for LIMs performance on-line monitoring. The VI is designed using the graphical programming language LabVIEW and is capable of performing on-line measurement functions, including data acquisition, display, and analyses in the time and frequency domains, as well as data archiving. To monitor in real time the steady-state and transient electromagnetic thrust of LIMs, the search coil is used for the determination of the flux linkage components, which is then multiplied by the appropriate current components to yield a signal proportional to the electromagnetic thrust. This paper reports the LIM's dynamics measured by the proposed on-line monitoring system.

  • In this paper the instantaneous thrust of a linear induction motor(LIM) with cage-type secondary is estimated by the line voltages and phase currents measurement when the LIM is fed by PWM inverter. The estimated thrust values according to various input frequencies are compared with the measured ones.

스플릿라인 TVC 시스템을 적용한 핀틀 추력조절 노즐의 유동해석 및 추력 성능 예측 (Numerical Study and Thrust Prediction of Pintle-Controlled Nozzle with Split-line TVC System)

  • 본 연구에서는 스플릿라인 TVC를 적용한 핀틀 추력조절 노즐에 대한 유동해석을 수행하고 추력성능을 예측하였다. 해석 결과로 도출된 추력계수를 시험결과와 비교하여 수치해석 결과를 검증하였으며, 동일한 수치해석 기법을 적용하여 주요 성능 변수인 운용고도, 핀틀 스트로크 위치, TVC 각도에 따른 1/10 크기의 노즐의 유동특성을 확인하였다. TVC 각도가 증가할수록 추력손실이 발생하였고, 핀틀 스트로크 위치에 따라 AF의 경향성이 달랐다. 해석결과를 기반으로 반응표면법을 적용하여 추력계수에 대한 관계식을 도출하였고, 해석 결과와 평균 1.2% 수준의 근소한 차이를 가지는 추력성능 모델을 생성하였다.

  • 추력은 연소기 개발시험 시 연소 성능을 확인하기 위한 매우 중요한 항목이다. 따라서 정확한 추력을 측정하는 것은 매우 중요하다. 정확한 추력을 측정하기 위해 추력측정장치 시스템 특성, 저항 및 선형성 등을 파악하기 위해 단계적으로 교정 시험을 수행하였다. 추력 교정식으로 산출된 추력과 이론 추력과 비교하여 약 6.9%~8.6%의 오차를 확인하였고, 연소기의 정확한 추력을 측정하기 위해서는 추진제 배관이 연결된 상태에서의 교정이 필요함을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, the power transmitting mechanism for negative torque of the metal V-belt (MVB) CVT were investigated by theoretically analyzing variation of band tension, block compression forces for each of the primary and secondary pulleys. An experimental study was performed to investigate the speed ratio - thrust characteristics for negative torque. The experimental results are in good acoordance with the theoretical results. CVT line pressure control logic was suggested for negative torque based the speed radio - negative torque - thrust characteristics and the thrust ratio curves. The results of this study can be used as basic design materials for developing the CVT control system for negative torque.
