  • LED has been great attentions in lighting industry because of its long life-time, high efficiency, excellent light output characteristics. However, the life-time of the LED driving system is decreased because of the electrolytic capacitor which is used in the power conversion system for driving LED lighting. Therefore the capacitance reduction methods have been studied to replace an electrolytic capacitor with film or tantalum capacitor. This paper presents the Single stage PFC flyback converter with the simplified third harmonic current injection circuit to reduce output capacitance and the proposed system is theoretically analyzed and verified through the experiment.

  • A 7/21GHz frequency tripler, using a commercially available packaged pHEMT, was designed and fabricated on 15mil RO3003 substrate. Frequency conversion is realized using the third harmonic current of an class B amplifier with rejection feedback at fundamental with optimum load conductance at the third harmonic. The fabricated frequency tripler has achieved a conversion loss of 0.7dB for an input power of 0dBm at 21GHz. The experimental results show good agreement with the harmonic balance simulation.

  • This paper describes an influence of system voltage harmonics on arrester deterioration diagnostic techniques based on leakage current measurement because the resistive current is composed of two components caused by nonlinear characteristics of arrester and by system voltage harmonics. Resistive leakage currents of arresters, which can be evaluated by the third harmonic component of total leakage currents, increase with its deterioration progress. In this paper, we developed a PSpice model for ZnO arrester to simulate the harmonics' effect described above. In simulation, pure sinusoidal voltage and the $3^{rd}$ harmonic voltage are applied to the model, and the leakage current changes are compared. The simulation results showed that the magnitudes of resistive leakage current depend not only on the phase of system voltage harmonics but also on the magnitude of it.

  • This paper presents a high-efficiency current mode class-D(CMCD) power amplifier for the 13.56 MHz band using a Guanella's 1:1 transmission-line transformer and filtering circuits at the output network. The second and third s are filtered out in the load network of the class-D amplifier. The implemented CMCD power amplifier exhibited a power gain of 13.4 dB and a high power-added efficiency(PAE) of 84.6 % at an output power of 44.4 dBm using the 13.56 MHz CW input signal. The second and third distortion levels were -50.3 dBc and -46.4 dBc at the same output power level, respectively.

  • This paper propose a improved speed control system for five-phase squirrel-cage induction motor(IM) considering effects of 3rd. harmonic current components with field oriented control(FOC) A five-phase IM drives present unique characteristics due to the additional degrees of freedom and also drives possess many others advantage compared with the traditional three-phase motor drive system, such as reducing a amplitude of torque pulsation at low frequency and increasing the reliability. In order to maximize the torque per ampere, the proposed motor has concentrated windings. The produced back-electromotive force is almost trapezoidal, and the motor is supplied with the combined sinusoidal plus third harmonic of currents. There is necessary to controlled 3rd harmonic current. For presenting the superior performance of the proposed the speed control system, experimental results are presented using a 32-bit fixed point TMS320F2812 DSP with 1.5[KW] induction motor.

  • To enhance torque density by harmonic current injection, optimal slot/pole combinations for five-phase permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) with fractional-slot concentrated windings (FSCW) are chosen. The synchronous and the third harmonic winding factors are calculated for a series of slot/pole combinations. Two five-phase PMSM, with general FSCW (GFSCW) and modular stator FSCW (MFSCW), are analyzed and compared in detail, including the stator structures, star of slots diagrams, and MMF harmonic analysis based on the winding function theory. The analytical results are verified by finite element method, the torque characteristics and phase back-EMF are also taken into considerations. Results show that the MFSCW PMSM can produce higher average torque, while characterized by more MMF harmonic contents and larger ripple torque.

  • This paper presents the analysis of series active power filter for reactive power compensation, load balancing, harmonic elimination, and neutral current eradication in three-phase four-wire power systems. Generally, the three-phase four-wire system is widely employed in distributing electric energy to several office building and manufacturing plants. In such systems, the third harmonic and its 3rd harmonics are termed as triple and zero sequence components that do not cancel each other in the system neutral. Consequently, the triple harmonics add together creating a primary source of excessive neutral current. Regarding this concern, this paper presents a new control algorithm for a series hybrid active system, whereas the control approach it adopts directly influence its compensation characteristics. Hence, the advantage of this control algorithm is the direct extraction of compensation voltage reference without phase transformations and multiplying harmonic current value by gain and the required rating of the series active filter is much smaller than that of a conventional shunt active power filter. In order to show the effectiveness of the proposed control algorithm, experiments have been carried out.

  • Ultrafast deep-ultraviolet (DUV) pulse generation from the subwavelength aperture of a plasmonic waveguide was investigated. The plasmonic nanofocusing of near-infrared (NIR) pulses was exploited to enhance DUV photoemission of surface third harmonic generation (STHG) at the amorphous $SiO_2$ dielectric. The generated DUV pulses which are successfully made from a nano-aperture using 10 fs NIR pulses have a spectral bandwidth of 13 nm at a carrier wavelength of 266 nm. This method is applicable for tip-based ultrafast UV laser spectroscopy of nanostructures or biomolecules

  • Tripping of residual current protective devices(RCPDs) caused by harmonics has been continuously reported, but no literature is available on the behavior of RCPDs caused by harmonics. This paper, in order to find out the effects of harmonics on RCPDs, investigated the present condition on malfunction of RCPDs and measured harmonics at buildings where nuisance tripping of RCPDs was often occurred. Also, the operational characteristics of RCPDs were tested by the harmonics synthesizer that can generate distorted waveform. Results of experiment detected that there was minimum tripping current of RCPDs when third harmonic added to the fundamental frequency. And it was found that the leakage current to cause tripping of RCPDs increased with more higher order harmonics added to the fundamental frequency.
