ATJ 그라파이트의 $CO_2$ 레이저를 이용한 열충격 강도 및 열충격 파괴인성 평가 (Evaluation of thermal shock resistance and thermal shock fracture toughness using $CO_2$ laser for ATJ graphite)

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate thermal shock resistance and thermal shock fracture toughness for ATJ graphite. Thermal shock resistance and thermal shock fracture toughness of ATJ graphite are evaluated by using CO$_2$ laser irradiation technique. The laser heat source is irradiated at the center of specimens. Temperature distribution on the specimen surface is measured using the thermocouples of type K and C. SEM and radiographic images are used to observe the cracks which are formed at the thermal shock specimens.

경계요소법을 이용한 수직열유동을 받는 접합경계면 커스프균열의 열응력세기계수 결정 (Boundary Element Analysis of Thermal Stress Intensity Factor for Interface Crack under Vertical Uniform Heat Flow)

  • The thermal stress intensity factors for interface cracks of Griffith and symmetric lip cusp types under vertical uniform heat flow in a finite body are calculated by boundary element method. The boundary conditions on the crack surfaces are insulated or fixed to constant temperature. The relationship between the stress intensity factors and the displacements on the nodal point of a crack tip element is derived. The numerical values of the thermal stress intensity factors for interface Griffith crack in an infinite body and for symmetric lip cusp crack in a finite and homogeneous body are compared with the previous solutions. The thermal stress intensity factors for symmetric lip cusp interface crack in a finite body are calculated with respect to various effective crack lengths, configuration parameters, material property ratios and the thermal boundary conditions on the crack surfaces. Under the same outer boundary conditions, there are no appreciable differences in the distribution of thermal stress intensity factors with respect to each material properties. But the effect of crack surface thermal boundary conditions on the thermal stress intensity factors is considerable.

내열용 오버레이 12%Cr계 스테인레스강의 열피로 특성에 미치는 Cr 함량과 델타-페라이트의 영향 (Effects of Cr Content and Volume Fraction of δ-Ferrite on Thermal Cycling Fatigue Properties of Overlay Welded Heat-Resistant 12%Cr Stainless Steels)

  • In this study, submerged arc cladded Fe-Cr-Ni-Mo-CuWNbV-C stainless steels containing various Cr contents between 11.2 wt.% and 16.7 wt.% were prepared with fixed C content at about 0.14 wt.%. Using these alloys, changes in microstructure, tensile property, and thermal fatigue property were investigated. Phase fraction of delta-ferrite was increased gradually with increasing Cr content. However, tensile strength, hardness, and thermal fatigue resistance appeared to be decreased. When the microstructure of delta-ferrite was observed, it was revealed that the mesh structure retained up to about 15% Cr content. Although thermal fatigue resistance was almost the same for Cr contents between 11.0 and 14.5 wt.%, it was significantly decreased at higher Cr contents. This was evident from mean value of crack lengths of 10 largest ones. Evaluation of thermal fatigue resistance on alloys with various Cr contents revealed the following important results. First, the reproducibility of ranking test was excellent regardless of the number of cycles. Second, thermal fatigue resistance was increased in proportion to true tensile fracture strength values of overlay materials. Finally, the number of thermal fatigue cracks per unit length was increased with increasing true tensile fracture strength.

Ni-Cr-Mo계 제동디스크 소재 개발 (Development of Brake Disk Materials with Ni-Cr-Mo)

  • 철도차량의 기계제동에 사용되는 제동 디스크의 표면에는 반복적인 마찰제동에 의해 열피로에 기인한 열균열이 발생하게 된다. 이러한 열균열은 제동성능 저하, 제동장치 유지보수비용 증가를 발생시키고 심지어는 대규모 열차사고의 원인으로 작용할 수도 있다. 본 연구에서는 우리나라의 새마을 및 무궁화 열차를 대상으로 고내열성을 지닌 제동 디스크 재질을 개발하기 위하여 FC280, FC250, NCM 등의 후보 재질을 선별하여 각 재질의 화학원소 성분과 비율을 결정하였다. 선별된 후보 재질로 주물 공시재를 제작하여 화학적 성분 분석, 결정 및 흑연조직 분석을 하였고 후보재질 시편에 대한 기계적 특성 시험 및 마찰특성 시험을 실시하여 현재 사용되는 제동 디스크 재질 특성과 비교하였다. 기계적 특성시험 결과 NCM이 가장 큰 인장강도를 보이나 마찰계수는 가장 작았다. 소형 다이나모 시험기에서 마찰제동 시 제동 속도 및 제동압력 변화에 대해 가장 안정적인 마찰계수를 나타내는 것은 현재의 사용품인 것으로 나타났다.

Thermal Stability and Fracture Toughness of Epoxy Resins Modified with Epoxidized Castor Oil and Al2O3 Nanoparticles

  • This study examined the effects of the epoxidized castor oil (ECO) and $Al_2O_3$ content on the thermal stability and fracture toughness of the diglycidylether of bisphenol-A (DGEBA)/ECO/$Al_2O_3$ ternary composites using a range of techniques. The thermal stability of the composites was decreased by the addition of ECO and $Al_2O_3$ nanoparticles. The fracture toughness of the composites was improved significantly by the addition of ECO and $Al_2O_3$ nanoparticles. The composite containing 3 wt % $Al_2O_3$ nanoparticles showed the maximum flexural strength. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed tortuous cracks in the DGEBA/ECO/$Al_2O_3$ composites, which prevented deformation and crack propagation.

  • The crack of concrete induced by the heat of hydration is a serious problem, particularly in concrete structures such as mat-slab of nuclear reactor buildings, dams or large footings, foundations of high rise buildings, etc.. As a result of the temperature rise and restriction condition of foundation, the thermal stress which may induce the cracks can occur. Therefore the various techniques of the thermal stress control in massive concrete have been widely used. One of them is prediction of the thermal stress, besides low-heat cement which mitigates the temperature rise, pre-cooling which lowers the initial temperature of fresh concrete with ice flake, pipe cooling which cools the temperature of concrete with flowing water, design change which considers steel bar reinforcement, operation control and so on. The Aim of this paper is to verify the effect of low heat blended cement in reducing thermal stress in slab type's mass concrete such as container harbor structures.

비정상 열 하중을 받는 이질재료의 열량 집중 계수 해석 (Thermal flow intensity factor for non-homogeneous material subjected to unsteady thermal load)

  • This article provides a comprehensive treatment of cracks in non-homogeneous structural materials such as functionally graded materials (FGMs). It is assumed that the material properties depend only on the coordinate perpendicular to the crack surfaces and vary continuously along the crack faces. By using laminated composite plate model to simulate the material non-homogeneity, we present an algorithm for solving the system based on Laplace transform and Fourier transform techniques. Unlike earlier studies that considered certain assumed property distributions and a single crack problem, the current investigation studies multiple crack problem in the FGMs with arbitrarily varying material properties. As a numerical illustration, transient thermal flow intensity factors for a metal-ceramic joint specimen with a functionally graded interlayer subjected to sudden heating on its boundary are presented. The results obtained demonstrate that the present model is an efficient tool in the fracture analysis of non-homogeneous material with properties varying in the thickness direction.

열피로시험중 질화규소 와류실에 발생하는 응력해석 (Stress Analysis of $Si_3N_4$ Swirl Chamber during Thermal Fatigue Test)

  • Thermal fatigue test and stress analysis of Si3N4 and metal swirl chamber were carried out to investigate the reliability of the swirl chambers. Conditions of the thermal fatigue test were severer than those in real engine and FEM was used to analize the stress distribution in the swirl chambers. Fatigue cracks of the maximum length 2.4 mm and deformation were occurred at the corner of the jet in metal swirl chamber but not observed in Si3N4 swirl chamber. Maximum tensile stress in Si3N4 swirl chamber calculated by FEM was 300 MPa.

  • Recent construction method in mass concrete structures would depend on the control of hydration heats and thermal stresses by using the low heat cement, optimized block size and a lift height, or both. This experimental study aims at the possibility of thermal cracks according to the different types of cementations material and at the investigation of these effects. Four different types of cements are applied to the mock-up test and are evaluated in terms of temperature rises and thermal stresses with the use of thermocouples, strain gauges and effective stress gauges. As a result of this study, it was found that stresses measured from effective stress gauges agree well with ones form strain gauges, and the trend of stress occurrence can be well evaluated from theoretical analysis.

열하중 및 기계하중이 작용하는 원주 방향 균열 배관에 대한 V-계수 평가 (V-Factor Estimation Under Thermal and Mechanical Stress for Circumferentially Cracked Cylinder)

  • This paper provides V-factor estimation under combined mechanical and thermal load for circumferential cracks. Results are based on finite element analyses and effect of types and magnitudes of the thermal stress, crack geometry, the loading mode and plastic strain hardening on variations of the V-factor are investigated. The results of finite element analyses are compared with R6 values. As a result, it is shown that R6 gives generally conservative results. The conservatism is especially increased for the combination of large mechanical and thermal load. As a result, new estimation method which uses failure assessment line in R6 is proposed for V-factor and gives less conservative results.
