  • The research presents a guideline for quality practitioners to provide a full comprehension of differences in theoretical and practical interpretations of assumed sampling errors of and significance probability of calculated p-value. Besides, the study recommends the use of statistical inferences methods with known parameters to identify the improvement effects. In practice, the quality practitioners obtain the known parameters through systematic quality Database (DB) activities.

  • The purpose of this research is to develop a probability program based on the actual condition of understanding of probability by the elementary school students from 3rd to 6th grade and search for ways to apply it to the 3rd grade of elementary school students. Based on the results from the research, the author reached a conclusion as following. After applying the learning program to five students of 3rd grade, all of the five students made progress understanding the concept of experimental and theoretical probability. However, for understanding the concept of example space, only two leading students were improved, which shows that students are having much difficulty in understanding the concept. As for under-standing the concept of experimental probability, many students gained the conceptual difference between the experimental and theoretical probability after using the program and enhanced their understanding of experimental probability.

  • For the One-way random effects model with unbalanced data, the AOV and MINQUE estimates of variance components are frequently found to be negative. The primary objective of present study is placed on the computation of the probability of the main effect variance component, being negative. The probability of negative estimators from AOV and MINQUE can be obtained by theoretical computation under the normality assumption. It is, however, difficult to compute the probability of negative estimates for these estimators under arbitrary distributions, and hence their probabilities of being negative were computed by simulation experiment in this study. It was shown that there was no significant difference between the theoretical probability under normality and calculated probability by simulation experiment, and that probability of negative estimates decreases as sample size, number of levels and the value of increase.

  • This essay attempts to suggest a third way to interpret probabilities based on diagnoses of weaknesses and strengths of the objective and the subjective interpretations. While the objective interpretations capture important intuitions in employing probability, it can provide the definitions of probability only in a circular way. Although the subjective interpretations seem to avoid this problem, it also fails to understand how one can extract certain information from the ignorance of a given system. It will be suggested that these problems can be bypassed if we consider probabilities as theoretical structure, which provide significant generalizations about the world.

  • This essay suggests a constructive interpretation of probabilities by diagnosing problems of the objective and the epistemic interpretations of probability. According to this interpretation, attributions of the mathematical structure of probability to a given system can be understood as positing constructive theoretical hypotheses showing the relationship among empirical data. The constructive interpretation is applied to comprehend probability claims in the explanation of temporal asymmetrical behaviour of our universe. A new approach interpreting probabilities as constructive theoretical terms enables us to circumvent shortcomings of both objective and subjective interpretation of probability, and appreciate why these interpretations nevertheless appear to be convincing in our case.

  • A diffusion-influenced pseudo-first order reversible reaction A + B ⇔C + B is investigated by the molecular dynamics (MD) simulation method. Theoretical finding that the temporal evolution of reactants [conditional probabilities] in the reversible system can be expressed by the irreversible survival probability with an effective rate parameter is confirmed even in the presence of solvent particles. We carry out molecular dynamics simulations for both the irreversible and the reversible cases to evaluate the survival and the conditional probabilities for each cases. When the resultant irreversible survival probability is inserted into the proposed relation, the conditional probabilities given by the simulation are exactly reproduced.

  • In this study, we analysis an optical receivers using the optical preamplifier in a spectrum-sliced WDM systems. The average numbers of photons/bit, for an $10^{-9}$ error probability, counts using the OOK and FSK transmission. As a result, the theoretical sensitivity for PIN receiver and optical preamplifier receiver are approximately $9.2\times10^4\;and\;7.2\times10^2$ in the m=20, respectively. Also, the average numbers of photons/bit, for and given error probability, theoretical receiver sensitivity for Gaussian method and k-square method are approximately $9\times10^2\;and\;2.16\times10^2$ in the m=40, respectively. And the average numbers of photons/bit, for an given error probability, theoretical receiver sensitivity, OOK and FSK transmission are approximately $1.9\times10^2\;and\;3.1\times10^2$ in the m=20, respectively.

  • Several previous studies suggested that simulation could be a main didactic instrument in overcoming misconception and probability modeling. However, they have not described enough how to reorganize probability knowledge as knowledge to be taught in a curriculum using simulation. The purpose of this study is to identify the theoretical knowledge needed in developing a didactic transposition method of probability knowledge using simulation. The theoretical knowledge needed to develop this method was specified as follows : pseudo-contextualization/pseudo-personalization, and pseudo-decontextualization/pseudo-deper-sonalization according to the introductory purposes of simulation. As a result, this study developed a local instruction theory and an hypothetical learning trajectory for overcoming misconceptions and modeling situations respectively. This study summed up educational intention, which was designed to transform probability knowledge into didactic according to the introductory purposes of simulation, into curriculum, lesson plans, and experimental teaching materials to present didactic ideas for new probability education programs in the high school probability curriculum.

  • The hazard estimator is proposed for estimating system failure probability of a general network where all minimal cut sets are given. Theoretical variance of the hazard estimator is derived in a bridge system. It is demonstrated that variance of the hazard estimator is much smaller than that of the raw simulation estimator particularly for small arc failure probability.

  • Annual runoff in the Nakdong river basin has been analyzed to find the probability functions of best fit to distribution of historical annual runoff. The results obtained are as follows; (1) Log-normal 3-parameter disrtibution is believed as the probability function of best fit to historical distribution (2) Log-normal 3-parameter disrtibution is believed as the best fit probability function among Log-normal dist-ributions. (3) In the test of goodness of fit, $x^2-test$ shows that probability of $x^2-valus$ in Log-normal 3-parameter distribution is nearly more than 90%. But in the Simirnov-Kolmogorov test, hypotheses for the probability distributions cannot be rejected at significance level 5% & 1%. (4) Among 7 gauging stations, Dongchon & Koryung-Bridge's records show lower fitness to the theoretical probability functions than other 5 gauging station's
