In the style, span and method of mathematical modeling problem representation, both excellent and normal students adopted symbolic and methodological representation style. However, excellent students use mechanical representation style more often. Excellent students tend to utilize multiple-representation while normal students tend to utilize simplicity representation. Excellent students incline to make use of circular representation while normal students incline to make use of one-way representation. 2. In mathematical modeling strategy use, excellent students tend to tend to use equilibrium assumption strategy while normal students tend to use accurate assumption strategy. Excellent students tend to use sample analog construction strategy while normal students tend to use real-time generation construction strategy. Excellent students tend to use immediate self-monitoring strategy while normal students tend to use review-monitoring strategy. Excellent students tend to use theoretical deduction and intuitive judgment testing strategy while normal students tend to use data testing strategy. Excellent students tend to use assumption adjustment and modeling adjustment strategy while normal students tend to use model solving adjustment strategy. 3. In the thinking, result and efficiency of mathematical modeling, excellent students give brief oral presentations of mathematical modeling, express themselves more logically, analyze problems deeply and thoroughly, have multiple, quick and flexible thinking and the utilization of mathematical modeling method is shown by inspiring inquiry, more correct results and high thinking efficiency while normal students give complicated protocol material, express themselves illogically, analyze problems superficially and obscurely, have simple, slow and rigid thinking and the utilization of mathematical modeling method is shown by blind inquiry, more fixed and inaccurate thinking and low thinking efficiency.

  • Theoretical foundation and algorithms are presented of a new surface modeling and pre-processing system for the three-dimensional structures. The modeling method is based on the boundary representation scheme and composed of two hierarchical model structures: curve-network and surface models. The concept of modeling curve as a union of links is introduced to facilitate surface modeling via various transfinite mapping techniques or Coons Patches. Efficiency and novel aspects of the present method are discussed. Finite element mesh genceration and application procedures will be reported in a later paper.

  • This paper suggests a computational modeling to reflect static/dynamic characteristics of LM bearings. A theoretical study for modeling LM bearings is elucidated by using the Hertz contact theory, the Lagrange's equation of motion, normal mode analysis and a calculation of equivalent moment center. The complex geometry of LM bearings is replaced by a simplified model with eight springs only. The suggested model reflects static and dynamic characteristics of LM bearings without any consideration for the shape of the bed or stages on the LM bearings. The modal experimental results are compared to the simulation results with the suggested computational modeling. The difference between the experiments and simulation is calculated less than 8%.

  • A complete modeling of erbium-doped Bismuth-oxide fibers with a high doping concentration is presented. A 6-level amplifier system that incorporated clustering-induced concentration quenching, cooperative upconversion, pump excited state absorption (ESA), and signal ESA, was adopted for the modeling. The accuracy of the modeling was verified by comparing the calculated gain and noise figure with experimentally obtained ones.

  • Machine tool design concepts have evolved towards high efficiency, accurate precision. high structural integrity, and multi-functional systems. Like many other structures, machine tools are also composed of many parts. When these parts are assembled, many kinds of joints are used. In the finite element analysis of these assembled structures, most joints are commonly considered as rigid joints. But, to get the more accurate solution, we need to model these joints in a appropriate manner. In this study, rational dynamic modeling and analysis method for complex structures are studied with special attention to slide way joints. For modeling of slide way joints, a general modeling technique is used by influence coefficients method which is applied to the conversion of detailed finite element model to the equivalent reduced joint model. The theoretical part of this method is illustrated and the method is applied to the structure with slide way joint. In this method. the non-linearity of the contact surfaces is considered within a proper range and the boundary effect of the joint model can be eliminated. The proposed method was applied to finite element modal analysis of a clamp jointed cantilever beam and slide way joints of the vertical type lathe. The method can also be used to other kinds of joint modeling. The results of these analysis were compared with those of Yoshimura models and rigid joint models. which demonstrated the practical applicability of the proposed method.

  • Security administrators of companies and organizations need to come up with proper countermeasures against cyber-attacks considering infrastructures and security policies in their possession. In order to develop and verify such countermeasures, the administrators should be able to reenact both cyber-attacks and defenses. Simulations can be useful for the reenactment by overcoming its limitations including high risk and cost. If the administrators are able to design various scenarios of cyber-attacks and to develop simulation models from their viewpoints, they can simulate desired situations and observe the results more easily. It is challenging to simulate cyber-security issues, because there is lack of theoretical basis for modeling a wide range of the security field as well as pre-defined basic components used to model cyber-attacks. In this paper, we propose a modeling method for cyber-security simulations by developing a basic component and a composite model, called Abstracted Cyber-Security Unit Model (ACSUM) and Abstracted Cyber-security SIMulation model (ACSIM), respectively. The proposed models are based on DEVS(Discrete Event systems Specification) formalism, a modeling theory for discrete event simulations. We develop attack scenarios by sequencing attack behaviors using ACSUMs and then model ACSIMs by combining and abstracting the ACSUMs from a security perspective. The concepts of ACSUM and ACSIM enable the security administrators to simulate numerous cyber-security issues from their viewpoints. As a case study, we model a worm scenario using ACSUM and simulate three types of simulation models based on ACSIM from a different security perspective.

  • A new modeling method for AC-AC switched capacitor converters (SCCs) is introduced in this study. The proposed analytical method aims to accurately describe the input-output characteristics of AC-AC SCCs and establish a mathematical model for static voltage conversion ratio and equivalent resistance, which are key performance metrics for SCCs. A quantitative analysis of converter regulation capability is addressed on the basis of the modeling method. In this analysis, the effects of the control parameters and individual components on SCCs are illustrated extensively. Component stresses, such as the peak value and transient variation of the voltage/current of the converter, are also presented. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by comparing it with the existing modeling method and applying it to an AC-AC SCC with a conversion ratio of three. Two 1 kW prototypes are built in a laboratory, and their experimental results exhibit good agreement with the theoretical analysis.

  • This paper is concerned with the dynamic modeling and controller design for a cylindrical shell equipped with MFC actuators. The dynamic model was derived by using Rayleigh-Ritz method based on Donnel-Mushtari shell theory. The actuator and sensors for the MFC actuator equations were derived based on pin-force model. The boundary conditions at both ends were assumed to be shear diaphragm. After calculating the natural vibration characteristics, the positive position feedback controller was designed to cope with the first two modes. To this end, the equations of motion were reduced to modal equations of motion by considering the modes of interest. The theoretical results show that vibrations can be successfully suppressed.
