Recent developments such as concern over global warming, depletion of fossil fuels and increase in energy demands by the increasing world population has eventually lead to mass production of electricity using renewable sources. Apart from wind and solar, ocean holds tremendous amount of untapped energy in forms such as geothermal vents, tides and waves. The current study looks at generating power using waves and the focus is on the primary energy conversion (first stage conversion) of incoming waves for different models. Observation of flow characteristics and the velocity in the augmentation channel as well as the front guide nozzle are presented in the paper. A numerical wave tank was used to simulate the waves and after obtaining the desired wave properties; the augmentation channel plus the front guide nozzle and rear chamber were integrated to the numerical wave tank. The waves in the numerical wave tank were generated by a piston type wave maker which was located at the wave tank inlet. The inlet which was modeled as a plate wall moved sinusoidally with the general function, x=asin$\omega$t The augmentation channel consisted of a front nozzle, rear nozzle and an internal fluid region representing the turbine housing. The analysis was performed using the commercial CFD code ANSYS-CFX.
This study suggests a general process of analyzing the mooring and cargo handling limit waves, which is an incident to the new energy port under long wave agitation. To reduce damages of ships and harbor structures due to strong wave responses, it is necessary to predict the change of wave field in the mooring berth to make the proper decision by dock master. The berthing area at a new LNG port in the east coast of Korea in this study is frequently affected by oscillations from waves of 8.5~13s periods in the wintertime. The long period waves give difficulties on port operation by lowering the annual berthing ratio. It needs to find the event waves from the real time offshore wave records, which cause over the mooring limits. For that purpose, the wave records from field measurement and offshore wave buoy were analyzed. From numerical simulation, the response characteristics of long period waves in the berthing area were deduced with or without breakwater expansion plan, analyzing the offshore field wave data collected for two years. Some event wave cases caused over the cargo handling and mooring limits as per the standard Korean port design guideline, and those were used for the decision of port operation by dock master, comparing with the real time offshore wave observations.

A study of terahertz waves was made for the nondestructive evaluation of FRP (Fiber reinforced plastics) composite materials. The terahertz systems were consisted of time domain spectroscopy (TDS) and continuous wave (CW). The composite materials investigated include both non-conducting polymeric composites and conducting carbon fiber composites. Terahertz signals in the TDS mode resembles that of ultrasound; however, unlike ultrasound, a terahertz pulse was not able to detect a material with conductivity. The CFRP (Carbon fiber reinforced plastics) laminates were utilized for confirming the experimentation in the terahertz NDE. In carbon composites the penetration of terahertz waves is quite limited and the detection of flaws is strongly affected by the angle between the electric field direction of the terahertz waves and the intervening fiber directions. A refractive index (n) was defined as one of mechanical properties; so a method was obtained in order solve the "n" in the material with non-conductivity. The usefulness and limitations of terahertz radiation are investigated for the NDE of FRP composites.

Stress wave propagations in an elastic half space to a normal point force of ramp type in time are analyzed. The governing equations are transformed by applying the Laplace and Hankel transforms with respect to time and radial distance. The inversion of Laplace transforms are performed by employing the Cagniard-de Hoop method, where the Rayleigh waves at surface are obtained by including the residue terms. The stress waves computed at the location very cose to the surface are shown to be almost identical to the surface waves obtained by the residue method except the Rayleigh wavefront. It is found that at the surface, the stresses are dominated by the Rayleigh waves, whose amplitudes increase linearly with time when time is very large. It is also found that in the interior part, the radial stress has a logarithmic singularity at the shear wavefront, while tangential stress shows no singularity.
Internal waves and internal tides occur frequently along the eastern coast of Korea. During the spring-tide period in April 2003, the East Korean Warm Current (EKWC) flowed near the Korean East Coast Farming Forecast System (KECFFS; a moored oceanographic measurement system), creating a strong thermocline at the intermediate layer. Weakened stratification and well-mixed water appeared frequently around the KECFFS, with duration of approximately 1 day. The results suggest the following scenario. Baroclinic motion related to the internal tide generated high frequency internal waves around the thermocline. The breaking of those waves then created turbulence around the thermocline. After well-mixed water appeared, a current component with perpendicular direction to the EKWC appeared within the inertial period. The change in stratification around the KECFFS locally broke the geostrophic balance as a transient state. This local vertical mixing formed an ageostrophic current within the inertial period.
Compressed-water-type launching devices convert the force from compressed water into force-launching underwater structures, such as torpedos and autonomous underwater vehicles. In particular, the overpressure wave in the launching tube is a critical design factor for the launching device. This paper presents a simplified formula for simulating overpressure waves in the launching tube of a compressed-water-type launching device. Scaled model experiments were performed to obtain actual measurement data of overpressure waves in a launching tube with varying piston speeds to examine the practical applicability of the simplified formula. The main factor of the simplified formula was estimated using an optimization technique. The time history of the overpressure waves was satisfactorily simulated using the estimated factor values and showed consistency with the measurement data. In addition, the trend of change by the piston speed of the estimated factors was reviewed, and the practical applicability was demonstrated. A systematic study of the factors influencing the overpressure waves in launching tubes will be possible using experimental data for more various conditions and the proposed simplified formula.
In this paper, we established the generalized thermoelasticity phenomenon in an isotropic elastic medium considering the electromagnetic field, rotation and two-temperature. Three theories of generalized thermoelasticity have been applied: Lord-Shulman (one relaxation time), Green-Lindsay (two relaxation times), as well as the coupled theory. We discussed some particular cases in the context of the wave propagation phenomenon in thermoelasticity. From solving the fundamental equations, we arrived that there are three waves: P-, T- and SV-waves that we calculated their velocities. The boundary conditions for mechanical stress and Maxwell's stress and thermal insulated or isothermal have been applied to determine the amplitudes ratios (reflection coefficients) for P-, T - and SV waves. Some utilitarian aspects are obtained from the reflection coefficients, presented graphically, and the new conclusions have been presented. Comparisons are made for the results predicted by different theories (CT, LS, GL) in the absence and presence of the electro-magnetic field, rotation, as well as two-temperature on the reflection of generalized thermoelastic waves. The results obtained concluded that the external parameters as the angle of incidence, electromagnetic field, rotation as well as the theories parameters have strong effect on the phenomenon.
Analyzing the interactions of free surface waves caused by a submerged-body movement is important as a fundamental study of submerged-body motion. In this study, a two-dimensional mini-towing tank was used to tow an underwater body for analyzing the generation and propagation characteristics of free surface waves. The magnitude of the maximum wave height generated by the underwater body motion increased with the body velocity at shallow submerged depths but did not increase further when the generated wave steepness corresponded to a breaking wave condition. Long-period waves were generated in the forward direction as the body moved initially, and then short-period waves were measured when the body moved at a constant velocity. In numerical simulations based on potential flow, the fluid pressure changes caused by the submerged-body motion were implemented, and the maximum wave height was accurately predicted; however, the complex physical phenomena caused by fluid viscosity and wave breaking in the downstream direction were difficult to implement. This research provides a fundamental understanding of the changes in the free surface caused by a moving underwater body.

In this paper, Moore-Gibson-Thompson theory of thermoelasticity is considered to investigate the fundamental solution and vibration of plane wave in an isotropic photothermoelastic solid. The governing equations are made dimensionless for further investigation. The dimensionless equations are expressed in terms of elementary functions by assuming time harmonic variation of the field variables (displacement, temperature distribution and carrier density distribution). Fundamental solutions are constructed for the system of equations for steady oscillation. Also some preliminary properties of the solution are explored. In the second part, the vibration of plane waves are examined by expressing the governing equation for two dimensional case. It is found that for the non-trivial solution of the equation yield that there exist three longitudinal waves which advance with the distinct speed, and one transverse wave which is free from thermal and carrier density response. The impact of various models (i)Moore-Gibson-Thomson thermoelastic (MGTE)(2019), (ii) Lord and Shulman's (LS)(1967) , (iii) Green and Naghdi type-II(GN-II)(1993) and (iv) Green and Naghdi type-III(GN-III)(1992) on the attributes of waves i.e., phase velocity, attenuation coefficient, specific loss and penetration depth are elaborated by plotting various figures of physical quantities. Various particular cases of interest are also deduced from the present investigations. The results obtained can be used to delineate various semiconductor elements during the coupled thermal, plasma and elastic wave and also find the application in the material and engineering sciences.
Since Chappelear developed a Fourier approximation method, considerable research efforts have been made. On the other hand, Fourier approximations are unsuitable for deep water waves. The purpose of this study is to provide a Fourier approximation suitable even for deep water waves and a numerical method to determine the Fourier coefficients and the wave properties. In addition, the convergence of the solution was tested in terms of its order. This paper presents a velocity potential satisfying the Laplace equation and the bottom boundary condition (BBC) with a truncated Fourier series. Two wave profiles were derived by applying the potential to the kinematic free surface boundary condition (KFSBC) and the dynamic free surface boundary condition (DFSBC). A set of nonlinear equations was represented to determine the Fourier coefficients, which were derived so that the two profiles are identical at specified phases. The set of equations was solved using Newton's method. This study proved that there is a limit to the series order, i.e., the maximum series order is N=12, and that there is a height limitation of this method which is slightly lower than the Michell theory. The reason why the other Fourier approximations are not suitable for deep water waves is discussed.
