  • The iterative sliding mode observer is proposed to control sensorless PMSM(Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor). Proposed sliding mode observer has the character which is robust to the disturbance and parameter variation. Low pass filter with the variable cutoff frequency is also proposed to compensate rotor angle, it is led to saving memory and minimizing operation time. Experimental results shows that the proposed sliding mode observer leads to the proper performance.

  • We proposed the indirect adaptive fuzzy model based sliding mode controller to control nonaffine nonlinear systems. Takagi-Sugano fuzzy system is used to represent the nonaffine nonlinear system and then inverted to design the controller at each sampling time. Also sliding mode component is employed to eliminate the effects of disturbances, while a fuzzy model component equipped with an adaptation mechanism reduces modeling uncertainties by approximating model uncertainties. The proposed controller and adaptive laws guarantee that the closed-loop system is stable in the sense of Lyapunov and the output tracks a desired trajectory asymptotically.

  • The conventional sliding mode control(SMC) technique requires a priori knowledge of the upperbounds of disturbances or/and modeling uncertainties to assure robustness. This, however, may not to be easy to obtain in practical situation. This paper presents a new methodology, sliding mode control with disturbance estimator(SMCDE), which offers a robust control performance without a priori knowledge about the disturbance. The proposed technique is featured by an average value of the imposed disturbance over a certain period. A nonlinear spring-mass-damper system is adopted as an illustrative example, and a comparative work between the conventional technique and the present one is undertaken.

  • The ball screw position control system driven by a pneumatic motor using continuous sliding mode is proposed. The design and performance of proposed servo system are presented by means of examples tested under practical service conditions. Results of experimental implementation on the proposed system illustrate the effectiveness of the ball screw position control system driven by a pneumatic motor using continuous sliding mode as a servo pneumatic actuator driven by a pneumatic motor.

  • Generally, the underwater flight vehicle (UFV) depth control system operates with the following problems: it is a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system because the UFV contains both pitch and depth angle variables as well as multiple control planes, it requires robustness because of the possibility that it may encounter uncertainties such as parameter variations and disturbances, it requires a continuous control input because the system that has reduced power consumption and acoustic noise is more practical, and further, it has the speed dependency of controller parameters because the control forces of control planes depend on the operating speed. To solve these problems, an adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller (AFSMC), which is based on the decomposition method using expert knowledge in the UFV depth control and utilizes a fuzzy basis function expansion (FBFE) and a proportional integral augmented sliding signal, is proposed. To verify the performance of the AFSMC, UFV depth control is performed. Simulation results show that the AFSMC solves all problems experienced in the UFV depth control system online.

  • In this paper, a systematic design of a robust nonlinear multivariable variable structure controller based on state dependent nonlinear form is presented for the control of MIMO uncertain affine nonlinear systems with mismatched uncertainties and matched disturbance. After a MIMO uncertain affine nonlinear system is represented in the form of state dependent nonlinear system, a systematic design of a robust nonlinear variable structure controller is presented. To be linear in the closed loop resultant dynamics, the linear sliding surface is applied. A corresponding diagonalized control input is proposed to satisfy the closed loop global exponential stability and the existence condition of the sliding mode on the linear sliding surface, which will be investigated in Theorem 1. Through a design example and simulation study, the usefulness of the proposed controller is verified.

  • Sliding mode is a robust control method and can be applied in the presence of model uncertainties and parameter disturbances. This study shows that the proposed fuzzy sliding mode control could reduce chattering problemed in sliding mode control. In this paper, an inverted pendulum is effectively controlled by the fuzzy sliding control technique. To reduce movable region of the inverted pendulum body, the angle and its integrated quantity are applied to the controller. The effectiveness of result is shown by the simulation and the experimental test for the inverted pendulum.

  • Magnetic levitation system with the advantages of non-contact, no friction and no wear can satisfy the requirement of high precision and high speed positioning. In this paper, magnetic levitation positioning stage which mainly consists of planar coil and HALBACH permanent magnet array and its control and driving system are designed. Magnetic levitation system is a highly nonlinear and strongly coupled complex system and its control performance can be influenced by the uncertainty and external disturbance. So exact feedback linearization method is used to realize exact linearization and decoupling, and a strategy of sliding mode control based on disturbance observer is proposed to compensate the uncertainty and external disturbance. Detailed proofs of observer's convergence property and system stability are derived. Both the simulation and experiment results verify the effectiveness of sliding mode control algorithm based on disturbance observer.

  • In the VSS control, the trajectories with a conventional sliding surface have a reaching phase which is an interval from the initial state to the first touching of the sliding surface. Since the sliding mode control can not be realized in a reaching phase, the trajectories may be sensitive to the disturbances and parameter variations. A simple nonlinear sliding surface is proposed to improve the robustness in a reaching phase. The position control of a PM DC servo motor using a new sliding surface is carried out and is compared to the one using the conventional surface. The sliding mode occurs in entire trajectories with the proposed new sliding surface and the improved robustness is obtained.

  • This paper presents the development of a full order sliding mode controller for tracking problem of a class of uncertain dynamical system, in particular, the direct drive robot manipulators. By treating the arm as an uncertain system represented by its nominal and bounded parametric uncertainties, a new robust fullorder sliding mode tracking controller is derived such that the actual trajectory tracks the desired trajectory as closely as possible despite the non-linearities and input couplings present in the system. A proportional-integral sliding surface is chosen to ensure the stability of overall dynamics during the entire period i.e. the reaching phase and the sliding phase. Application to a three DOF direct drive robot manipulator is considered.
