An Empirical Analysis of Auditory Interfaces in Human-computer Interaction

  • This study attempted to compare usability of auditory interfaces, which is a comprehensive concept that includes safety, utility, effectiveness, and efficiency, in personal computing environments: verbal messages (speech sounds), earcons (musical sounds), and auditory icons (natural sounds). This study hypothesized that verbal messages would offer higher usability than earcons and auditory icons, since the verbal messages are easy to interpret and understand based on semiotic process. In this study, usability was measured by a set of seven items: ability to inform what the program is doing, relevance to visual interfaces, degree of stimulation, degree of understandability, perceived time pressure, clearness of sound outputs, and degrees of satisfaction. Through the experimental research, the results showed that verbal messages provided the highest level of usability. On the contrary, auditory icons showed the lowest level of usability, as they require users to establish new coding schemes, and thus demand more mental effort from users.

한국의 가치문화 교육을 위한 광고 자료 선정 (The Study of Selecting Advertisement Materials for Korean Value System Education)

  • The purpose of this study is to prepare educational contents and criteria for selecting advertisement materials by exploring the necessity of value system education in Korean culture education. Furthermore, the study aims to suggest advertisements that contain meaningful materials through the criteria among the public and commercial advertisements as of 2017. Advertisements have advantages in three aspects as they focus on current culture, cultural implications and the ease of teaching and learning. These advantages indicate the usefulness of advertisements in value education. Also, the research of Hofstede (2010), Kang (2007), and Kim et al. (2011) provide discussion regarding educational contents. Subsequently, the criteria for selecting advertisements are further developed as the main purpose of this study. The criterion are to consider the objectives of culture education, to take into account the learning situation, to find relevance between the contents of the advertisement and the contents for the value system education, and consider expressive methods of advertisements and extensibility to the activities. Next, advertisements were selected for core educational items and the list of 22 is presented according to the value system, educational contents and the criterion of the advertisements discussed in the above.

  • 검색엔진을 통해서 맛집(레스토랑)에 대한 정보를 찾는 경우 유저들은 맛집을 주제로 한 블로그에 있는 맛집 리뷰 포스트만이 아니라 맛집이 아닌 다른 것들을 주제로 한 블로그에 위치한 맛집 리뷰 포스트에도 방문할 수 있다. 이 연구의 목적은 검색 엔진을 통해 맛집 리뷰 포스트에 방문 했을 때 포스트와 블로그의 주제 사이의 관련성이 해당 맛집 리뷰에 대한 유저의 신뢰에 영향을 미치는지를 알아보는 것이다. 또한, 우리는 유저의 연령이 이 결과에 영향을 미치는 지도 알아보려고 한다. 이 연구를 위해서 우리는 동일한 맛집 리뷰 포스트가 있는 2개의 다른 주제를 가진 블로그들을 제작하였다. 하나는 포스트와 블로그 주제 간의 관련성 높은 맛집을 주제로 한 블로그이고, 다른 하나는 포스트와 블로그 주제 간의 관련성 낮은 맛집을 주제로 하지 않은 블로그다. 실험참가자들은 2개의 그룹으로 나누어져 각각 다른 블로그에 있는 동일한 맛집 리뷰를 방문한 후 설문 조사에 응답했다. 이 연구는 총 206명의 실험 참가자들을 대상으로 한 온라인 설문 조사를 통해 연구를 검증했다. 본 연구의 결과는 1) 리뷰 포스트와 블로그 주제의 관련성의 높고 낮음에 따라서는 두 그룹 간의 메시지 신뢰도(리뷰에 대한 유저의 신뢰)에 큰 차이가 없었으며 2) 30세 이상 유저 그룹에서는, 포스트와 블로그 주제 간의 관련성이 유저의 블로그에 대한 매체 의구심과 전문성(리뷰 포스트가 충분한 레스토랑 정보를 제공한다는 유저의 믿음) 사이의 관계에서 조절 효과를 보였으며 3)맛집 리뷰에 대한 유저의 지각된 가치는 전문성과 추가적인 정보를 검색하려는 의도 간의 관계에서 매개 효과가 있는 것으로 검증되었다.

제6차, 제7차, 2007년 개정 교육과정 초등학교 과학 교과서의 STS 관련 내용 비교 분석 (Comparative Analysis of STS Contents on Elementary School Science Textbooks in 6th, 7th and Revision 2007 National Curriculum)

  • The Purpose of this study was to analyze STS contents in elementary school science textbooks according to 6th, 7th and revision 2007 national curriculum. The contents of STS were analyzed by the STS elements of Yager and the STS topics of Piel's standard. Major findings from the analyses are as follows: (1) The STS contents in the science textbooks of the 6th curriculum took up 13.7% and increased to 18.3% in the 7th and 19.0% in the revision 2007, which showed that the textbooks followed the goal of the national curriculum faithfully. (2) Based on the STS elements by Yager's standard, most of STS content is focused on 'Application of science', 'Social problems and issues' and 'Local and community relevance'. (3) Based on the STS topics by Piel's standard, most of STS contents are focused on 'Effect of technological development' and 'Society of science'. These results indicate that recent STS education trends are reflected on the 6th, 7th and revision 2007 textbooks well. However, it is suggested that some improvement is needed, such as diversification of topic.

당뇨환자의 영양지식수준에 따른 자가관리 현황 및 웹베이스 영양관리 프로그램 개발에 관한 요구도 조사 (Needs Assessment for Web-based Self-management Program by the Nutrition Knowledge Levels of Diabetic Patients)

  • This study was conducted to assess needs of self-management nutrition program for diabetic patients. The survey was conducted among 100 diabetic patients, and the mean age of the subjects was 54.2 years old. Thirty three percent of the subjects were diagnosed diabetes less than 2 years ago. The average nutrition knowledge score about diabetes was 10.2 point, and percentages of correct answers were very high in 'foods rich in fiber' (97.0%), 'relevance of exercise and insulin' (97.0%), 'quantity of insulin injection' (91.0%), and 'diabetes menu' (91.0%). The sources of nutrition information were hospitals/healthcare centers (56.1%), TV/radio (19.2%), and internet (13.1%). Sixty nine percent of the subjects have experienced nutrition education on subjects as 'menu planning skills'(22.4%), 'selecting foods' (22.4%), 'relevance of blood glucose and eating foods' (21.5%) by personal counseling (54.4%). The total score of eating behavior was higher after diagnosed diabetes (35.3) than before (30.0) (p < 0.001). The preferred topics in developing diabetes nutrition information websites were 'diabetes mellitus', 'relevance of blood glucose and foods', and 'selecting foods for diabetes'. The subjects wanted the websites developed by 'using mainly illustrations, pictures, tables' (22.8%) and 'using simple design' (19.6%). The preferred contents in developing diabetes self-management nutrition program were 'dietary life diagnosis', 'chronic disease risk diagnosis', 'calorie control by selecting foods and cooking skills', and 'dietary assessment'. In designing the program, the subjects' most wanted designs were 'be handy and simple in using' (29.3%), 'using simple design' (17.9%), and 'using mainly illustrations, pictures, tables' (15.7%).

대학생의 사이버강의 영향 요인에 관한 융복합 연구 (A Convergence Study on the Affecting Factors of Cyber Lecture for University Students)

  • 연구 목적은 대학생의 사이버강의 융복합 영향요인을 검증하는 것으로 사이버강의 전 후 인식 수준 비교 검증을 통해 그 결과를 도출하였다. 연구 자료는 설문지이며, 15개 문항을 유용성, 흥미, 학업관련성, 사회적 상호작용, 사용의도의 5개 영역으로 분류하였다. 대학생의 사이버강의 인식수준은 5개 영역에서 학습 후 유의미하게 향상하였고, 특히 흥미와 학업 관련성에서 높게 향상되었다. 성별 및 학년별은 유의미한 차이가 없었으나, 5개 영역에서는 유의미하게 높아졌다(p<.001). 전공별 인식 수준은 사회과학전공이 흥미와 사용의도에서 학습 후 유의미하게 향상되었다. 연구 결과 대학생을 대상으로 한 사이버강의는 전반적으로 융복합 효과가 있음이 판명되었다. 사이버강의 컨텐츠 제작 시 흥미와 학업관련성을 높일 수 있도록 설계될 필요가 있으며, 유용성의 요인인 학업관련성이 고려될 필요가 있다.

재해관리에 대한 교육과정 개발 (A Curriculum Development on the Disaster Management)

  • The various and serious types of disaster occur everyday and everywhere on the earth. There is no doubt that it is very timely to discuss about the effectiveness and preparedness of disaster. The purpose of this study is to develop a curriculum on the disaster management through reviewing disaster concepts and the disaster management system. For the empirical relevance of the study, researchers participated in a couple or more disaster training program, reviewed references, and consulted to the experts working on action parts in the area. As a result, the 'Integrated Disaster Management System Model (IDMSM)' was designed, in which four dimensions were explained. Then the 'Disaster Curriculum Model (DCM)' was explored with its theoretical framework based on the system model. The developed curriculum is composed of four levels ; the introductory course, the fundamental course, the advanced course, and the expert course. From this DCM, basically the course-outlines of two subjects in the introductory course, 18 subjects in the fundamental course (5 of direct services. 13 of indirect services) were developed. Also each course-outline was explored by its course objective, learning objectives, contents, and its length. Finally to make the most of the results, suggestions are proposed. The governmental considerations on the policy should support the systematic and integrated educational program to practice, appointing 「Disaster School」 or 「Disaster Training Center」 of relevance and accountabilities. Comprehensive Relevance of AMPK in Adaptive Responses of Physical Exercise, Skeletal Muscle and Neuromuscular Disorders

  • PURPOSE: This study was conducted to understand the adaptive responses of different modes of physical exercises utilizing skeletal muscle and the comprehensive relevance of AMPK signaling that can be activated by physical exercise as a potential molecular target in human health problems such as neuromuscular disorders (NMDs). METHODS: Most of the contents in this review article are based on recent publications concerning the main topics of interest. The reference literatures cited were obtained by basic searches of overseas academic databases such as PubMed and ScienceDirect using EndNote X7.8. RESULTS: The phenotypic adaptive responses of skeletal muscle during endurance- and resistance-based exercise training (ET and RT respectively) appear to be distinct. To explain the adaptive responses in each single mode of exercises (ET, RT) along with combined exercise training (CT), AMPK signaling is proposed as an important molecular link among those differential modes of exercise and a promising molecular target of NMDs. CONCLUSION: Based on the available evidence, intracellular AMPK signaling activated by diverse stimuli including physical exercise can be a potential and promising therapeutic target for the prevention, amelioration or cure of various human health problems including NMDs and may also be beneficial for physical rehabilitation and emergency situations that may elicit acute metabolic stresses.

2007년 개정 슬기로운 생활 교육 과정의 내용 요소 및 탐구 활동 분석 (An Analysis of the Content Elements and Inquiry Activities in the Revised "Wise Life" Curriculum 2007)

  • The purpose of this study is to assist understanding the integrated subjects and to obtain implications required on the actual operation of curriculum by analyzing content elements and basic inquiry activities in the revised "wise lift" curriculum 2007. The result of this study is as follows. First, the formation of elements in contents of "wise life" deals with the passage of time based on changing seasons, myself and family in the 1st grade and the concept of space based on home and a village in the 2nd grade. Six main subjects and twelve activity subjects are presented per each grade. Second, number of activity subjects and content elements are reduced as compared with 7th curriculum so that the responsibility of operating classes based on activities is reduced and the purpose of rationalizing contents is somewhat fulfilled. Third, eliminating a relevant domains decisively when presenting the activity subjects assures the identification and purpose as the integrated subject focused on inquiry activities. Fourth, the result of analyzing the course-relevance on content elements shows that the allotment per each domain and course is less considered but the relevance of social studies is higher regardless of non-course characteristics as the integrated subject. Fifth, according to the component ratio of basic inquiry activities, 'Observing' and 'Debating' were presented as the most essential activities, and 'Measuring' and 'Making' were relatively low. By considering characteristics of course requiring balanced and various experiences of inquiry activities, additional discussions are required on appropriateness of the component ratio. Sixth, 'Observing' was increased and 'Debating' and 'Making' were decreased on the main activities in this revised curriculum as compared with 7th curriculum.

대학생의 학습동기 촉진을 위한 ARCS 평가모형의 타당화 검증 (Validity Verification of ARCS Evaluation Models for Promoting University Students' Learning Motivation)

  • 학습동기 저하로 인해 중도탈락과 대학생활 부적응이 심화되어 가고 있기에 학습동기촉진 방안이 모색될 필요가 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 J 지역대학에 재학 중인 학습자 273명(남 116, 여 157)을 대상으로 Keller(1983)가 제안한 ARCS 평가모형이 동기수준을 평가하는데 타당한 모형인지 탐색적 차원에서 검증하고자 실시되었다. 이를 위해 평균통계량, 일원분산분석과 확인적 요인분석을 실시하였다. 연구결과 첫째, ARCS 요인별 동기수준은 관련성 요인이 가장 높게 나타났다. 둘째, 학년별의 경우 1학년 및 3학년 학생에 대한 ARCS 동기수준은 적절했다. 학년별로 '주의집중'과 '관련성' 경우만 차이가 나타났으며, 특히 1학년 집단이 2학년 집단에 비해 큰 것으로 확인되었다. 셋째, 동기수준 측정을 위한 구성타당도 및 수렴타당도가 확보되었다. 확인적 요인분석 결과도 변인의 평균분산추출지수(AVE) 및 복합신뢰도(CR)가 적절하였으며, 모형적합도도 양호하였다. 마지막으로 본 연구가 가지는 의의, 연구의 제한점, 추후 연구에 대한 제언을 제시하였다.
