  • Currently, ECDIS and GPS plotters are much used as equipment providing operators with route information, but they do not have any function of automatic route creation and route explanation, so available for only experienced operators. Especially, the present situation is tint no study is made of the automatic route creation and route explanation using ENC for ECDIS, substitution system of paper chart. ENC is the electronic navigation chart that is produced using S-52, S-57 standard format required by IHQ. In this paper, an Vessel Operator Support System(VOSS) is proposed to generate an optimal route where ENC and GPS data is fusioned induding the wind direction and speed of an anemometer and tide data. The proposed system was testified by a simulation, and its effectiveness was verified.

  • As the survey and the analysis the research can offer the characteristic methods for regeneration in the city of Busan. To figure out the functional regions of city center the research has analyzed 15 Dongs in city center and 12 Dongs in sub centers to find out the donut phenomenon and the regeneration of city center. The survey has chosen 22 variation factors using factor analysis. Major factors in each year are shown 4 factors, presenting 80.4% of the accumulated explanation rate. These factors explain residental centered, commercial centered, management centered, and development centered factor. The donut phenomenon emerges in the city centers as a residential function, and the phenomenon occurs in the sub centers as commercial or managerial function. So it is necessary to plan the regeneration of the total city center owing to the total donut phenomenon regarding the functions. And the methods to regenerate city centers should be established according to the various regional characterizations.

  • Having the Seorak mountain National Park as an object of study, this research grasps the problems of the present environmental observatories through the awareness investigations of visitors towards the function of environmental observatories made by the evironmental education. In order to achieve this, a questionaire has been conducted for 26 days, starting from the 25th October 2002, directed towards 100 visitors to the Seorak mountain National Park about the maps and degree of satisfaction of the usage ofthe environment observatory and explanation program. The results of the analysis show that general satisfaction on the environmental observatories are valued very negatively. This informs us that the present environmental observatories under the environment education are not fullfilling entirely their functions. Supporting itself upon the basis of the visitors' questionaire, this research has attempted the resolution of the present problems having as an object of study the scenery and cultural resources present in the Seorak mountain National Park, and proposing an entertaining environmental education of the environment observatory's constitution.

  • In characterizing a suspension, heterogenety is included onto the previous characterization using solids concentrations and flocculent characteristics, because of its importance in hydrodynamics. The mechanism of interface formation during the sedimentation of concentrated suspension (thickening) is investigated from a microcosm consisting of four particles in a same plane and a smaller particle below. The critical distances after shich interface forms are calculated as a function of particle size ratio when the small particle is located in the middle of the squre datermined by the large particles. The results shows that the critical separation distance increase as the size ratio approaches to one (homogeneous suspension). This conforms to the trend of existing observations that homogeneous suspensions create the solid-liquid interface at much lower concentration (at al larger separation distance) that the heterogeneous suspensions.

  • Methylglyoxal (MG) is an endogenous physiological metabolite which is present in increased concentrations in diabetics. MG reacts with the amino acids of proteins to form advanced glycation end products. In this in vitro study, we investigated the effect of MG on the structure and function of ceruloplasmin (CP) a serum oxidase carrier of copper ions in the human. When CP was incubated with MG, the protein showed increased electrophoretic mobility which represented the aggregates at a high concentration of MG (100 mM). MG-mediated CP aggregation led to the loss of enzymatic activity and the release of copper ions from the protein. Radical scavengers and copper ion chelators significantly prevented CP aggregation. CP is an important protein that circulates in plasma as a major copper transport protein. It is suggested that oxidative damage of CP by MG may induce perturbations of the copper transport system and subsequently lead to harmful intracellular condition. The proposed mechanism, in part, may provide an explanation for the deterioration of organs in the diabetic patient.

  • In this paper, an explanation regarding on-line identification of a fuzzy system is presented. The fuzzy system to be identified is assumed to be in the type of singleton consequent parts and be represented by a linear combination of fuzzy basis functions. For on-line identification, squared-cosine membership function is introduced to reduce the number of parameters to be identified and make the system consistent and differentiable. Then the parameters of the fuzzy system are identified on-line by the gradient search method and Extended Kalman Filter. Finally, a computer simulation is peformed to illustrate the validity of the suggested algorithms.

  • To determine whether position affects measured lung capacity of spinal cord injury patients. The study subjects were 45 patients with spinal cord injury (cervical level 15, thoracic level 15, lumbar level 15). Subjects were provided with a full explanation of the experimental procedures and all provided written consent signifying their voluntary participation. We used a spirometer (Spirometer, Micromedical Ltd, UK) to measure pulmonary function in the supine and sitting positions (straightened upper body at an angle of $90^{\circ}$). Forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume during the first second (FEV1), tidal volume (TV), and maximum insufflation capacity (MIC) were also measured. FVC, FEV1, TV, MIC (%) were greater in the supine than in the sitting position for those with injury at the cervical or thoracic injury level. On the other hand, FVC, FEV1, TV, MIC (%) were lower in the supine position for those with an injury at the lumbar level. More attention should be paid to the effect of injury level on measured lung capacity.

  • Recent observations reveal that some early-type galaxies show a color-magnitude relation of blue globular clusters (GCs) in the color-magnitude diagrams, which is referred to as 'blue tilt'. This phenomenon is interpreted as a mass-metallicity relation -- metallicities of blue GCs increase with increasing mass, and thus provides a crucial clue to the chemical enrichment processes of GCs as a function of their mass. However, some galaxies show 'non-tilt' or even 'reverse blue tilt' on the blue GC sequence, and thus the origin of blue tilt still remains a puzzle. In this study, we put forward the theoretical explanation for the phenomenon and discuss its implications towards galaxy formation scenarios.

  • In the past, the report of shoulder instability undergoing open shoulder stabilization had satisfactory outcomes of greater than 90%. However, the functional loss of open procedure is severe in abduction and external rotation especially. Current arthroscopic techniques for shoulder instability result in success rate equal to open surgical procedure when the labrum is properly fixed to the glenoid rim using suture anchors, the capsule is tightened, and associated bony and soft tissue pathology is addressed. The arthroscopic surgery facilitates the view within shoulder joint for more accurate diagnosis, reduces operating time, minimises postoperative pain, reduces operative morbidity, improves shoulder function, and provides the possibility to perform other procedure simultaneously. However, to accomplish a successful arthroscopic stabilization procedure and to prevent complications, numerous advanced arthroscopic skill must be mastered. Although the arthroscope provides means to visualize new lesions, the pathomechanism and biomechanical explanation is not clear yet. Further studies are necessary to develop for shoulder reconstruction.
