Soot and PAH Formation Characteristic of Concentric Co-Flow Diffusion Flames (이중동축류 확산화염에서의 매연 및 PAH 생성 특성)

  • The synergistic effect of ethylene/propane mixture on soot formation is studied experimentally using a concentric co-flow diffusion burner, which provides the stratified fuel mixture. The soot volume fraction, soot particle diameter, number density and PAH concentrations are measured with various fuel supply configurations and compared to the homogeneously mixed case. When propane is supplied through the inner nozzle, an increase of soot formation is observed. However, when propane is supplied through the outer nozzle, a decrease is observed. The reaction path of PAH's formed from the pyrolysis process of propane is likely to be responsible to the observed differences. When propane is supplied through the outer nozzle, PAH's are formed in the relatively near oxidation region and exposed to the oxidization environment; on the other hand, when propane is supplied through the inner nozzle, PAH's are not likely to be oxidized and thus get involved in soot formation process. The synergistic effect in ethylene/propane diffusion flames is found to be affected not only by the com position of the mixture but also by the way of mixing.

  • This study analyzed the disparity between the supply and demand of information demand and information provision generated among information providers(agricultural researchers) and information adopters(farmers), the two subjects of the local innovation diffusion process, with a focus on the contents and methods of sharing information and according to individual innovation diffusion pattern. In information provision, the characteristics of the contents of information in terms of their temporal necessity and effective period were more important than the field to which the contents of information belonged. In addition, the selection and strategic provision of an information provision method appropriate to each pattern according to the contents of information were proposed as a way of resolving farmers'information demand and strengthening their links to experiment stations. According to the analysis, information provision methods such as the limited use of some patterns in methods of providing documents, provision of production information using experiment field, and eco-friendly agricultural information to all types through regular study group sessions, search for plans for using ICT, and supplementary and interconnected composition of individual information provision methods were applicable in a complex manner according to the situation and management format, and the standard here was the contents of information.

Image Restoration Algorithm using Backward Diffusion Equation (역확산 방정식을 이용한 영상복원 알고리즘)

  • In this paper, the image restoration process is interpreted as a backward diffusion process and the restored image is given as the solution of the backward diffusion equation (BDF). The ill-posedness of the backward diffusion if subdued by manipulating the exponentially increasing coefficients of the eigenfunctions. In manipulating the coefficients the spectral characteristics of an image is taken into account. The proposed scheme uses an exponentially decreasing function of the coefficients of the eigenfunctions beyond a certain threshold which is optimal with respect to the observation accuracy. The use of decreasing functions also improves the result compared with the constant bounded algorithm since it can include more low frequency components.

Preparation of TiO2 Photocatalysts by Diffusion Flame Reactor and Its Application on Photo-degradation of Phenol and Toluene (확산화염 반응기를 이용한 TiO2 광촉매 제조 및 페놀 및 톨루엔 광분해 응용)

  • We prepared the nano-sized $TiO_2$ particles by the diffusion flame reactor and investigated the effects of several process variables on the generation and transport properties of $TiO_2$ particle. As the length from the tip of diffusion flame reactor increases, the size of $TiO_2$ particle increases by the coagulation between particles. The structure of $TiO_2$ particles prepared is almost found to be anatase. It was found that the $TiO_2$ particle size depends more largely on the change of reactor temperature than on the change of inlet $TiCl_4$ concentration. By the photo-degradation experiment of phenol and toluene with the prepared $TiO_2$ particles, we found that the photo-degradation efficiencies of phenol and toluene change, depending on the process variables such as size of $TiO_2$ photocatlysts, concentration of phenol or toluene. Degradation efficiencies of phenol and toluene was above 90% in our experiments in 60 minutes.

  • Overviews of vertical and horizontal GaAs/AlGaAs OEIC are shown. Researching double Zn diffusion process, we obtain Xj=At1/2-Bd1, where A=2.5${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/[hr]1/2, B=0.625, of which process is recommended for exact diffusion interface area control of GaAs/AlGaAs. It is proved to be 100A/100A AlAs/GaAs using MOCVD by measurement of photo-luminescence which shows a luminescence peak corresponding to the 798.4nm wavelength calculated values of 38meV ground state above GaAs conduction band.

Modelling of chloride diffusion in saturated concrete

  • The process of chloride ingress in saturated concrete was presented by a previous study that used a mathematical model for the same as that concrete. This model is to be studied chloride ion diffusion which is considered as a chemical phenomenon and is to be represented the chloride diffusion process to be a nonlinear partial differential equation (PDE). In this paper, this nonlinear PDE is solved by the Kirchhoff transformation to render into a linear PDE. This linear PDE associated with initial and boundary conditions is also solved by the Laplace transformation to obtain an analytical solution. To verify the serviceability and reliability of this proposed method, the practical application should be supplied. The input parameters were cited from the previous study. The free chloride concentration profiles obtained by the analytical solution of mathematical model for saturated concretes after 24 and 120 hrs of exposure were compared with the previous study. The predicted results obtained from proposed method have a tendency with experimental results obtained by the previous study and trend toward numerical results approximated by finite difference technique.

The Effect of Mn Addition on Nitrogenation Behavior and Magnetic Properties of Sm-Fe Alloy Powder Produced by Reduction-diffusion Method (환원-확산법에 의해 제조된 Sm-Fe 합금분말의 질화거동 및 자기특성에 미치는 Mn첨가 효과)

  • In the present study, we systematically investigated the effect of Mn addition on nitrogenation behavior and magnetic properties of Sm-Fe powders produced by reduction-diffusion process. Alloy powders with only $Sm_2(Fe,Mn)_{17}$ single phase were successfully produced by the reduction-diffusion process. The coercivity of $Sm_2(Fe,Mn)_{17}$ powder rapidly increased during nitrogenation and reached the maximum of 637 Oe after 16 hours. After further nitrogenation, it decreased. In contrast, the coercivity of $Sm_2Fe_{17}$ powder gradually increased during nitrogenation for 24 hours. The coercivity of $Sm_2(Fe,Mn)_{17}$ powder was higher than that of $Sm_2Fe_{17}$ powder at the same condition of nitrogenation. It was considered that the Mn addition facilitates the nitrogenation of $Sm_2Fe_{17}$ powder and enhances the coercivity.

Simultaneous Formation of NiSi Contact and Cu Plug/Ti Barrier (NiSi 접촉과 Cu 플러그/Ti 확산방지층의 동시 형성 연구)

  • As an alternative to the W plug used in MOSFETs, a Cu plug with a NiSi contact using Ta / TaN as a diffusion barrier is currently being considered. Conventionally, Ni was first deposited and then NiSi was formed, followed by the barrier and Cu deposition. In this study, Ti was employed as a barrier material and simultaneous formation of the NiSi contact and Cu plug / Ti barrier was attempted. Cu(100 nm) / Ti / Ni(20 nm) with varying Ti thicknesses were deposited on a Si substrate and annealed at $4000^{\circ}C$ for 30 min. For comparison, Cu/Ti/NiSi thin films were also formed by the conventional method. Optical Microscopy (OM), Scanning Probe Microscopy (SPM), X-Ray Diffractometry (XRD), and Auger Electron Microscopy (AES) analysis were performed to characterize the inter-diffusion properties. For a Ti interlayer thicker than 50 nm, the NiSi formation was incomplete, although Cu diffusion was inhibited by the Ti barrier. For a Ti thickness of 20 nm and less, an almost stoichiometric NiSi contact along with the Cu plug and Ti barrier layers was formed. The results were comparable to that formed by the conventional method and showed that this alternative process has potential as a formation process for the Cu plug/Ti barrier/NiSi contact system.

Soot Generation in a Coaxial Laminar Diffusion Flame (동축 층류 확산화염에서의 그을음 생성)

  • Soot generation by combustion process has been investigated with objective of understanding of chemical reaction responsible for its formation in a coaxial laminar propane jet diffusion flame. For the direct photos, as the coflowing air flow rate is reduced, the area of soot luminous zone increases at first, then becomes smaller and smaller, and even disappears. The aspects of soot deposition can be acquired by using nine $15{\mu}m$ thin SiC fibers are positioned horizontally across the flame. Deposited soots on SiC fibers show the soot inception point and growth and soot oxidation zone in a typical propane diffusion. Soot is not generated anymore in a oxidizer deficient conditions of near-extinction and flame is fully occupied by transparent blue flame. It suggests that nonsooting pyroligneous blue reaction is being dominant in a oxidizer deficient ambience. In comparison with luminosities of SiC fibers and flame itself, indirect evidence is found that the process of soot nucleation and growth is endothermic reaction. It is remarkable that there exists two adjacent regions to have antithesis characteristics; one is exothermic reaction of blue flame and another endothermic reaction zone of soot formation.

  • In external chemical vapor deposition processes including VAD and OVD the distribution of flame-synthesized silica particles is determined by heat and mass transfer limitations to particle formation. Combustion gas flow velocities are such that the particle diffusion time scale is longer than that of gas flow convection in the zone of particle formation. The consequence of these effects is that the particles formed tend to remain along straight smooth flow stream lines. Silica particles are formed due to oxidation and hydrolysis. In the hydrolysis, the particles are formed in diffuse bands and particle formation thus requires the diffusion of SiCl$\_$4/ toward CH$\_$4//O$\_$2/ combustion zone to react with H$\_$2/O diffusing away from these same zones on the torch face. The conversion kinetics of hydrolysis is fast compared to diffusion and the rate of conversion is thus diffusion-limited. In the language of combustion, the hydrolysis occurs as a Burke-Schumann process. In selected conditions, reaction zone shape and temperature distributions predicted by the Burke-Schumann analysis are introduced and compared with experimental data available. The calculated centerline temperatures inside the reaction zone agree well with the data, but the calculated values outside the reaction zone are a little higher than the data since the analysis does not consider diffusion in the axial direction and mixing of the combustion products with ambient air. The temperatures along the radial direction agree with the data near the centerline, but gradually diverge from the data as the distance is away from the centerline. This is caused by the convection in the radial direction, which is not considered in the analysis. Spatial distribution of silica particles are affected by convection and diffusion, resulting in a Gaussian form in the radial direction.
