This study examined the feasbility of upgrading D waste water treatment plant which treats incoming wastewater by primary sedimentation only. By adding 20-40 ppm of Hi-PAX into the outlet of the aerated grit chamber, BOD and SS removal efficiences were improved from 29% and 36% to 53 % and 73%,respectively. However, chemically enhanced primary treatment failed to meet the upcoming wastewater quality standard(BOD and SS <20 mg/l) consistently. This was suspected to result from the deteriorated plant return stream. The wastewater treatment by chemical treatment should have increased the amount of the sludge to be removed as the sludge production was increased. Chemically enhanced primary treatment is anticipated to consistently produce effluent of the 1996 standards quality by adjusting the amount of the sludge to be removed. Besides BOD and SS removal, chemically enhanced primary treatment resulted in the improved T-P removal from 30% to 64-74%. However, such benefit was not observed in T-N removal. Improved T-P removal will be expected to help control water pollution in Masan bay.
The supercritical $CO_2$ (sc-$CO_2$) mixture and the sc-$CO_2$-based Photoresist(PR) stripping(SCPS) process were applied to the removal of the post etch/ash PR residue on aluminum patterned wafers and the results were observed by scanning of electron microscope(SEM). In the case of MDII wafers, the carbonized PR was able to be effectively removed without pre-stripping by oxygen plasma ashing by using sc-$CO_2$ mixture containing the optimum formulated additives at the proper pressure and temperature, and the same result was also able to be obtained in the case of HDII wafer. It was found that the efficiency of SCPS of ion implanted wafer improved as the temperature of SCPS was high, so a very large amount of MEA in the sc-$CO_2$ mixture could be reduced if the temperature could be increased at condition that a process permits, and the ion implanted photoresist(IIP) on the wafer was able to be removed completely without pre-treatment of plasma ashing by using the only 1 step SCPS process. By using SCPS process, PR polymers formed on sidewalls of metal conductive layers such as aluminum films, titanium and titanium nitride films by dry etching and ashing processes were removed effectively with the minimization of the corrosion of the metal conductive layers.
The amount of the contaminants that can be adsorbed on the drain was evaluated for the effective remediation of the contaminated soil, and the contaminants adsorptivity of the drain was evaluated by comparing the isothermal adsorption model after carrying out the contaminants adsorption test of the reactants coated on the surface of the drain. The reactant used in the experiment is a natural zeolite, and the contaminants are copper, lead and cadmium. The results that Freundlich and Langmuir adsorption isotherm model are compared to the adsorption amount according to the change of the initial concentration by the contaminants. As a result of the component analysis, because Si, Al and O are contained approximately 28%, 11% and 48%, respectively, it is identified that the material coated on the surface of the drain is the component of the zeolite which is the reactant for the adsorption of the heavy-metal (Cu, Pb, Cd) contaminants. The heavy-metal adsorption kinetic of the zeolite which is the reactant was decreased in order of lead, copper and cadmium. The important factor of the performance evaluation of the adsorbent is the reaction rate, and if zeolite is used as the reactant in the relationship between the maximum amount of adsorption and reaction rate, it can be utilized as the design factor that determine the removal order of the complex heavy-metal. In other words, because the maximum adsorption quantity of lead is smaller compared to copper but the reaction rate is relatively fast, it can be primarily removed, and copper can be removed after removing the lead. It was analyzed that Cadmium can be finally removed after that other heavy-metal is removed.
We investigated why aspen extractives are more resistant in kraft pulping than pine extractives. Residual extractives content in aspen kraft pulps were 0.5~1.1% compared with 0.1~0.2% in pine pulps. This different response arises from the different composition of extractives in wood chips. Resin acids in pine were almost completely removed in kraft pulping but those are not existence in aspen. Slower saponification of aspen steryl esters resulted from different chemical structure of aspen steryl esters. Main sterols in aspen steryl esters were 24-methyl cyclolanostenol which was highly resistant to alkaline hydrolysis with its characteristic steric hindrance. Sterols in aspen were not well removed in kraft pulping. The relative composition of sterol in aspen kraft pulps was increased with increasing pulping time. The presence of fatty acids in aspen kraft pulps is considered to unusual. Fatty acids in alkaline are supposed to be well ionized and removed well in the washing stage. Nevertheless, there were significant amount of fatty acids remaining in aspen kraft pulps.
A porous photocatalyst concrete filter was successfully produced to remove NOx, by mixing TiO2 photocatalyst with lightweight aerated concrete. Ultra Fine Bubbles were used to form continuous pores inside the porous photocatalytic concrete filter, which was mixed via a bubble generation experiment. The optimal mixing condition was determined to be with 4 % of the bubble generation agent B. NO removal specimens were prepared for various photocatalytic loading conditions, and the specimen containing 3 % P-25 removed NO at a concentration of 1.03 µmol in 1 h. The NO removal rate of the porous photocatalytic concrete filter prepared in this study was 10.99 %. This photocatalytic filter performance was more than 9 times the amount of NO removed by a general photocatalytic filter. The porous photocatalyst concrete filter for removing NOx developed in this study can be applied to various construction sites and the air quality can be solved by reducing NOx contributing to the formation of fine particles.
The field feasibility tests for a phytoextraction process were performed to identify the effect of citric acid as a chelate on the uranium (U) transfer into the plant for the naturally U contaminated soil in Duckpyeongri, Korea. For the feasibility tests, lettuce and Chinese cabbage were cultivated for 49 days on four testing grounds ($1m{\times}1m{\times}0.5m$ in each) in 2016. The citric acid solution was added to two testing grounds (one for lettuce and the other for Chinese cabbage) increasing the U transfer in two crop plants and their results were compared to those without the citric acid solution. When without the citric acid solution, the U concentration of plant after the cultivation was low (< $45{\mu}g/kg$ for leaves and < $450{\mu}g/kg$ for roots). However, with the addition of 50 mM citric acid solution, the U concentration of lettuce leaves and roots increased by 24 times and 1.8 times, and the U concentration of Chinese cabbage leaves and roots increased by 86.7 times and 5.4 times. The absolute accumulated U amount (${\mu}g$) in lettuce and Chinese cabbage also increased by 8.7 times and 50 times, compared to those without citric acid solution. Less than 8% of the U amount of exchangeable/carbonate phases was removed by using the lettuce and Chinese cabbage when the citric acid solution was not applied. However 52% and 66% of the U amount in exchangeable/carbonate phases were removed by the lettuce and the Chinese cabbage when the citric acid solution was added. The effect of the citric acid on the U transfer capability into the plants was quantitatively investigated by the field feasibility test, suggesting that U existing as exchangeable/carbonate phase in soil can be successfully removed by the phytoextraction process using Chinese cabbage with citric acid.
To explore the optimal conditions for the removal of $H_{2}S$ gas by biofiltration, various conditions, including inlet $H_{2}S$ concentration, flow rate, moisture, and cell number, were examined. Heterotrophic bacteria were isolated from the compost of the animal excreta. A strain that effectively removed $H_{2}S$ was selected and identified as Rhodococcus rhodochrous B261 by analysis of its 16S rDNA sequence. A cell number of $10^{7}\;cfu/g^{-}compost$ was sufficient to dominate the microbiota, and an effective removal was observed at $H_{2}S$ gas concentrations below 220 mg/L. The moisture content of 33-38% was suitable for activation of the microbial activity and delaying the desiccation. Higher flow rates resulted in lower removal rates of the $H_{2}S$ gas. Under the conditions of $10^7\;cfu/g^{-}compost$, $H_{2}S$ gas concentrations of 220 mg/L, and moisture content of 33-38%, the inlet $H_{2}S$ gas concentrations of 120 and 400 mg/L were completely removed for 34 and 12 days, respectively. The amount of sulfur removed was $2.99{\times}10^{-9}H_{2}S-S/cell$, which was suggested as the amount of sulfur removed by a single cell. The biofilter consisting of the compost and R. rhodochrous B261 could be suitable for a long-term biofilteration for the removal of $H_{2}S$ and other malodorous compounds.
Groundwater contamination by nitrate exceeding water quality criteria (10 mg $NO_3{^-}-N/L$) occurs frequently. Fumarate, acetate, formate, lactate, propionate, ethanol, methane and hydrogen gas were evaluated for their nitrate removal efficiencies and removal rates for in situ bioremediation of nitrate contaminated groundwater. Denitrification rate for each substrate was in the order of: fumarate > hydrogen > formate/lactate > ethanol > propionate > methanol > acetate. Microcosm studies were performed with fumarate and acetate. When fumarate was used as a substrate, nitrate was removed 100 percent with rate of 0.66 mmol/day while conversion rate from nitrate to nitrogen gas or another by-product was 87 percent. 42 mg of fumarate was needed to remove 30 mg $NO_3{^-}-N/L$. When using acetate as carbon source, 31 percent of nitrate was removed during initial adjustment period. Among removed fraction, however, 83 percent of nitrate removed by cell growth. Overall nitrate removal rate was 0.37 mmol/day. Acetate showed longer lag time in consumption compared to that of nitrate, which implying that acetate would be better carbon source compared to fumarate as more amount was utilized for nitrate removal than cell growth.
Microcystis aeruginosa (M. aeruginosa) is a cyanobacterium species that can form harmful algal blooms in freshwater bodies worldwide. The use of pine needle extract (PNE) to control nuisance algae by allelopathic inhibition will be environmentally friendly and promising. PNE removed successfully upto 98% of M. aeruginosa at the following optimal conditions: pH 7, $25^{\circ}C$ of temperature, 100 rpm of mixing rate, 5 min of mixing time. These results was indicated that the amount of 1 g/L PNE was removed 1g dryweight/L of M. aeruginosa. The kinetic data showed substrate inhibition kinetics and maximum growth rate was obtained when the M. aeruginosa was grown in medium containing 0.5 g/L of initial concentration of PNE. Different substrate inhibition models were fitted to the kinetic data and found the Luong model was best. The model predicted kinetic parameters were in agreement with the experimental findings. The natural extract, PNE, can be a promising inhibition due to its high efficiency and low dose requirements.

Analog cassette tapes are easily changed due to environmental factors. To digitize is the best way to preserve a sound source. The way to digitize is to deal with the original sound to be enhanced to a variety of sources by playing through the audio card after recording. In this process to occur, it's the most important to remove various noise and equalizing sound in a method for preserving. It's studied about how to remove noise by using one of softwares, Cubase 5. 5, to remove hiss noise, which happens changing analog tape into digitalization. A amount of hiss noise is reduced to use X-Noise software of Wave which uses in Cubase 5.0, one of PLUG-IN. The noise is removed changing value of threshold and reduction every 10 times in no change of origin sound. To keep regular condition, the experiment to remove the hiss noise is conducted based on sound meondle, which is one of sound Nonmaegi. The noise is removed easily when the value of threshold is getting high in spite of giving a little value of reduction. However, as it gives a amount of reduction high, the damage rate of the sound source gets high.
