The purpose of the study is to analyze the influence of the accomplishing pressure of teachers and parents on academic achievement in mathematics in accordance with the differences in the degree of intrinsic motivation in mathematics. The accomplishing pressure of teachers was meaningful on the academic achievement in mathematics in the analysis including the interaction of intrinsic motivation in mathematics. The students with high degree of intrinsic motivation were influenced in a negative manner. Meanwhile the students with middle or low degree of intrinsic motivation were influenced in a positive manner. The result implies that it is more important to consider the level of mathematical intrinsic motivation, when teachers accomplish an achievement pressure to improve academic achievement in mathematics. On the analysis including the interaction of intrinsic motivation of mathematics, the accomplishing pressure of parents showed positive effect in general on the academic achievement in mathematics. The students with high or middle degree of intrinsic motivation were highly influenced in a positive manner than the students with low degree of intrinsic motivation. The result implies the necessity of the implementation of continuous accomplishing pressure on students as the high degree of accomplishing pressure of parents leads to positive influence on the academic achievement in mathematics.

This study analyzes the effect of poverty on child development outcomes including academic achievement, self-esteem, depression/anxiety, attention problems, aggression, and delinquency. The poverty experiences among elementary school children are longitudinally observed during 3 years between the 4th grade and the 6th grade. When development outcomes are compared among persistently poor children, transitory poor children, and non-poor children, academic achievement is found to be significantly different. The analyses of the relationships between the poverty status and developmental trajectories show that academic achievement among non-poor children has improved over time, while the level of poor children's achievement has decreased. The result also shows that problematic behaviors such as attention problems, aggression, delinquency has improved over time among all the children. Yet, the gap between poor and non-poor children has not decreased. The multivariate analyses indicate that the effect of poverty remains statistically significant only for academic achievement after children's individual and familial characteristics are controlled. Past experiences of poverty in addition to the current poverty affect academic achievement and persistent poverty has a stronger effect than transitory poverty on academic achievement, although the findings are not consistent across all the estimated models.
Since the characteristics of teachers that affect mathematics academic achievement are constantly changing and affecting mathematics achievement, longitudinal studies that can predict and analyze growth are needed. This study used data from middle and high school students from 2013(first year of middle school) to 2017(second year of high school) of the Seoul Education Longitudibal Study(SELS). By classifying the longitudinal changes in mathematics academic achievement into similar subgroups, the direct influence of teachers' characteristics(professionalism, expectations, academic feedback) perceived by students on the longitudinal changes in mathematics academic achievement was examined. As a result of the study, it was found that the characteristics of mathematics teachers(professional performance, expectation, and academic feedback) in group 1(343 students), which included the top 14.5% of students, did not directly affect longitudinal changes in mathematics academic achievement. Students in the middle 2nd group(745, 32.2%) had academic feedback from the mathematics teacher, and the 2nd group(1225 students) in the lower 53%, which included most of the students, showed that the expectations of the mathematics teacher were the longitudinal mathematics achievement. The change has been shown to have a direct effect. This suggests that support for teaching and learning should also reflect this, as the direct influence of teachers' professionalism, expectations, and academic feedback on longitudinal changes in mathematics academic achievement is different according to the characteristics and dispositions of students.

While internet and cellular phones are very attractive to adolescents, they cause a lot of problems because of adolescent's addiction to internet and cellular phones. The purpose of this study is to investigate relations among overuse of internet and cellular phone and academic achievement with middle school students according to their sex and grade. For this purpose, the survey consist of 44-item, self-administered paper-and-pencil questionnaire from 444 two middle schools students located in Busan. Also, their academic achievements were used for statistical data processing. As a result, firstly, middle school students did not tend to be so seriously addicted to the internet and cellular phones. The internet was used more by male students and cellular phones by female students, and the more male and female students used the internet, the higher they tended to use the cellular phones. There was a negative correlation between the tendency of internet use and academic achievement, but there were no significant differences between genders. In terms of the tendency of using cellular phones and academic achievement, there were no correlations among male students, but there was a negative correlation in female counterparts. Secondly, in terms of grade, the 2nd-grade students had a higher tendency to use both of them than the 1st- and 3rd-grade counterparts. The tendency of using the internet and cellular phones, in each grade had significantly static correlation and the higher they tended to use the internet, the lower they had academic achievement the 3rd-grade. On the other hand, the tendency of using cellular phones, only 2nd-grade students had low academic achievement.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of science lessons using mind mapping on creativity and academic achievement in science. The subjects of this study were fifth-grade students selected from four classes of an elementary school located in Busan. For ten weeks, the experimental group of 40 students were taught using the mind mapping technique. The comparative group, also of 40 students, was taught in normal classes which used a standard text-book. Children were given a test on science processing skills and academic achievement in science to measure the effects of mind mapping. The Likert scales were used to gather student's feedback on creativity and academic achievement in science. Through these procedures, the following results were obtained: First, mind mapping had a greater effect on science processing skills than the normal classes, where a text-book was used. Second, mind mapping was effective in improving the student's academic achievements in science at a greater level than the normal classes where a text-book was used. Third, after viewing results of the Student Recognition Investigation, we found that the students showed a higher level of interest in science lessons that used mind mapping, and were better able to understand the scientific theories. As a result, the elementary science class with mind mapping developed greater science processing skills and saw higher academic achievement in science. We conclude that science classes that use mind mapping have the potential to develop better science processing skills and improve academic achievement in science.
The purpose of this study was to analysis the gender differences in the academic achievement and the difference of academic achievement by the residential area in elementary school. Common phenomenon was observed in the result of the differences between male and female students' academic achievement and the ratio of achievement level. Female students' score was higher in 3rd grade elementary school but in 4th and 5the grade this phenomenon was gradually weakened. The following are the results of analysis of elementary school students' mathematics academic achievement in three areas(big city, small city and rural area). In the result was proved that the problem of the gap between the urban and rural areas has continued in the 21st century.
This study is the descriptive survey for the purpose of providing the basic data that establishes the strategy to promote adolescent's hope by the examining of self-esteem, academic achievement, family functioning and hope of adolescents and the investigating of the factors influencing the hope in adolescents. The subjects for this study were 456 students of the first and second year of man's senior high school that located in Seoul. The data were gathered from 16th to 31st of the October 2000. For the survey tool, it was used that the Family Assessment Device(FAD) of Epstein, Baldwin & Bishop(1983), the Self-Esteem Inventory(SEI) of Coopersmith(1975), the class record order and Hinds & Gatusso(1991)'s Hopefulness Scale for Adolescents(HSA). The collected data was analyzed by statistics methods as the descriptive and frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson and Spearman correlation coefficients and Stepwise multiple regression of SAS program. The results of this study were following : 1. The mean score of self-esteem of young people was 51.06±6.83 and the mean grade was 2.04. The high academic achievement was 29.2%, middle grade was 52.7%, and low grade was 18.1%. The mean score of the family functioning was 38.30±6.98 and the mean grade was 2.25. The mean score of hope was 84.26±16.45 and the mean grade was 3.51. 2. The hope in adolescents was significantly different according to their father's school career. The mean score of the group that the father's school career was below junior high school was 77.32. That was significantly lower than the mean score 84.59 of the group that the father's school career was above college and the mean score 85.18 of senior high school group(F=4.04, P= 0.0183). 3. The self-esteem was represented the positive correlation with family functioning(r=0.43) and the all of the 4 subscales(r=0.31, 0.41, 0.39, 0.30). And, it was highly ranked as much as family functioning was good. The academic achievement was represented the positive correlation with self-esteem(r= 0.15). Also, the positive correlation was shown between the affective responsiveness, role recognition and emotional support as the subscales of family functioning and academic achievement(r=0.11, 0.12). And so, academic achievement was high as much as self-esteem was high and affective responsiveness and role recognition and emotional support were good. The hope was represented positive correlation with self-esteem and academic achievement(r=0.42, 0.26), and with the whole of family functioning(r=0.15) and the 4 subscales(r=0.13, 0.16, 0.11, 0.13). So, hope was high as much as self-esteem was high, academic achievement was high and family functioning was good. 4. The influencing factors on the hope of adolescents were self-esteem(17.63%), academic achievement(3.41%), father's school career(0.84%). These factors made it possible to explain 21.88% of hope.
This study has attempted to find the teaching methods for the elementary students with low science achievement by examining the differences of science learning motivation, academic stress and stress coping styles and the characteristics shown in the relationship between them. To achieve this, the differences of science learning motivation, academic stress and stress coping styles of the elementary students with low science achievement and their relationship was set up as a study problem. A science learning motivation using a science learning motivation questionnaire reconfigured with PALS along with underachievers diagnosis were measured targeting 660 elementary students located in Seoul. Using an academic stress questionnaire and stress coping style questionnaire, an academic stress and stress coping styles were measured. The results of analyzing the collected data are as follows. First, a science learning motivation of elementary students with low science achievement was lower than the general students but the academic stress was shown higher. Especially, the self-efficacy of science learning motivation was significantly lower and the school stress was highest. For stress coping styles, a tendency of passive and avoidment coping styles were shown higher than the general students. Second, among the science learning motivation of elementary students with low science achievement, the self-efficacy motivation and school stress have shown a negative correlation but had a positive correlation with the goal-oriented motivation centered on ability. In the correlation between the science learning motivation of elementary students with low science achievement and the stress coping styles, the pursuit of social support coping styles have shown a significant positive correlation with the science learning motivation and its subcategories. As a result of conducting a regression analysis on the influence of academic stress and stress copying styles on the science learning motivation of elementary students with low science achievement, among the academic stresses, the school stress was shown to have the biggest influence. Among the stress coping styles, the pursuit of social support coping styles had the biggest influence on the science learning motivation followed by active coping behaviors, passive and avoidment coping behaviors. Low science learning motivation as underachievement factors of elementary students with low science achievement was identified as having a relationship with high school stress and undesirable stress copying styles. Therefore, guidance and a program are required for the elementary student with low science achievement to have desirable stress coping methods on the stressful situations. In addition, for the improvement of science learning motivation, a learning environment is needed for the elementary students with low science achievement with seeking of relevant educational methods.
