  • To link direct load control and economic operation considering system spinning reserve characteristics, this paper presents a new metholodogy. By formulating new constraints, considering system spinning reserve characteristics is possible. And by employing 3-D dynamic programming, linking direct load control and economic operation is possible. As a result, economical DLC and operation schedule of the power system is possible. The usefulness of the method is verified by applying to the test system.

  • To establish an infrastructure for technology and information in the domestic construction industry, several construction regulations pertaining to construction information have been institutionalized. However, there are major problems with the domestic information classification system, earned value management (EVM) and project management information system (PMIS). In particular, the functions of the current PMIS have consisted of a builder-oriented system, and as EVM is not applied to PMIS, the functions of reporting, analysis and forecast for owners are lacking. Moreover, owners cannot confirm information on construction schedule and cost in real time due to the differences between the EVM and PMIS operation systems. The purpose of this study is to provide a framework that is capable of operating PMIS efficiently under an e-business environment, by providing a proposal on how to establish a work breakdown structure (WBS) and an EVM - PMIS integration model, so that PMIS may provide the function of EVM, and stakeholders may have all information in common. At the core of EVM - PMIS integration is the idea that EVM and PMIS have the same operation system, in order to be an activity-based system. The principle of the integration is data integration, in which the information field of an activity is connected with the field of a relational database table consisting of sub-modules for the schedule and cost management function of PMIS using a relational database management system. Therefore, the planned value (PV), cost value (CV), actual cost (AC), schedule variance (SV), schedule performance index (SPI), cost variance (CV) and cost performance index (CPI) of an activity are connected with the field of the relational database table for the schedule and cost sub-modules of PMIS.

An Optimal Energy Storage Operation Scheduling Algorithm for a Smart Home Considering Life Cost of Energy Storage System

  • This paper presents an optimal operation scheduling algorithm for a smart home with energy storage system, electric vehicle and distributed generation. The proposed algorithm provides the optimal charge and discharge schedule of the EV and the ESS. In minimizing the electricity costs of the smart home, it considers not only the cost of energy purchase from the grid but also the life cost of batteries. The life costs of batteries are calculated based on the relation between the depth of discharge and life time of battery. As the life time of battery depends on the charge and discharge pattern, optimal charge and discharge schedule should consider the life cost of batteries especially when there is more than one battery with different technical characteristics. The proposed algorithm can also be used for optimal selection of size and type of battery for a smart home.

  • In this article, scheduling of a casting sequence is studied in a casting foundry which must deliver products according to the Just-in-time(JIT) production policy of a customer. When a foundry manufactures a variety of casts with an identical alloy simultaneously, it frequently faces the task of production scheduling. An optimal casting schedule should be emphasized in order to maximize the production rate and raw material efficiency under the constraints of limited resources; melting furnaces and operation time for a casting machine. To solve this practical problem-fulfilling the objectives of casting the assigned mixed orders for the highest raw material efficiency in a way specified by the customer's JIT schedule, we implement simple integer programming. A simulation to solve a real production problem in a typical casting plant proves that the proposed method provides a feasible solution with a high accuracy for a complex, multi-variable and multi-constraint optimization problem. Employing this simple methodology, a casting foundry having an automated casting machine can produce a mixed order of casts with a maximum furnace utilization within the due date, and provide them according to their customer's JIT inventory policy.

  • This paper propose a new mathematical modelling method about optimum operational schedule for cogeneration systems. Proposed algorithm solving the energy product cost function in this paper is very similar to the real model that is, proposed algorithm solve nonlinear type of real model using mixed integer programming based on the piecewise linear function while the conventional algorithms used before could not solve that kind of problems. The effectiveness of the proposed method is ascertained by the simulation results with varius case studies which are similar to real operation circumstances.

  • This study was performed to guide the effective utilization of blood and optimal blood ordering schedule for various elective surgeries, based on the analysis of 1.462 transfused surgical procedures and 5.933 blood units transfused during operation in the period of two years through January, 1987 to December, 1988 at Yeungnam University Hospital. The frequency of transfusion, and mean transfused units were evaluated and recommended blood unit for each surgical procedure was proposed. We assure that the successful establishment of this guideline can lead to substantial monetary saving, reduced blood outdation, and a decreased blood bank workload with a more appropriate allocation of the technician's time and effort.

A Study on Stable Operation of Li-ion Battery Charging/Discharging System (Li-ion 배터리 충/방전 시스템의 안정적 운영에 관한 연구)

  • When the operation of battery is converted at charging and discharging system based on a DC micro grid, the voltage is fluctuated. And excessive voltage fluctuation could cause damage or failure of charging and discharging equipment. Therefore, in this paper, we studied the operating schedule of the charging and discharging system based on the DC micro grid and a design point of the capacitor which was able to reduce the voltage fluctuation. A result of computer simulation showed that when a fluctuation-reducing capacitor which had an initial value of 600V/35mF was applied at the charging and discharging system based on a DC micro grid which was operated with three charging battery sets and five discharging battery sets, voltage fluctuation by charging and discharging operation was reduced by about 63.3%. Furthermore, voltage fluctuation which occurred when initial network voltage was stabilized was reduced by about 73%.

  • In this study, through portion of the blind control which the user can adjust the deration and the main loads, night for energy reduction during the review of the energy difference between the cooling and heating load periods in order to present the best operation schedules of the blind control. The result, Cooling period, the venetian blind is installed the day or the day and night CASE adjusted to $0^{\circ}$ was identified as optimal for the operating schedule. Heating period, the day, without installed the blinds, the Venetian blind is installed only at night CASE adjusted to $0^{\circ}$ or $45^{\circ}$ angle of the slats, which have been identified as optimal for the operating schedule.

  • Nowadays, digital manufacturing has been known to be very effective method in manufacturing fields. It is aimed to estimate process time, to improve operation efficiency, and to prevent bottleneck processes in advance of real manufacturing. This paper addresses a scheduling support system for panel hues in a shipyard through digital manufacturing simulation. The proposed system supports operators to make better decisions on the shop-floor scheduling in panel lines. It ,would provide a complete schedule that is at least as good as any schedule currently obtained. Furthermore, it can evaluate the operator's schedule by simulating it with 3-dimensional models before the work orders and schedules are released.
