  • The good features of the analytic function expansion nodal (AFEN) method are utilized to develop a practical scheme jot the multigroup diffusion problems, in combination with the polynomial expansion nodal (PEN) method. The thermal group fluxes exhibiting strong gradients are solved by the AFEN method[1-6], while the fast group fluxes that are smoother than the thermal group fuzes are solved by the PEN method[7-9]. The scheme is applied to a MOX-fuel loaded core with good results.

  • The isothermal crystallization behaviors of blends of poly(ethylene naphthalate) (PEN) and a thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer (TLCP) were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) as functions of crystallization temperature and blend composition. Avrami analyses were applied to obtain information on the crystal growth geometry and the factors controlling the rate of crystallization. The crystallization kinetics of the PEN/TLCP blends followed the Avrami equation up to a high degree of crystallization, regardless of crystallization temperature. The calculated Avrami exponents for PEN/TLCP revealed three-dimensional growth of the crystalline region in each blend. The crystallization rate of each blend increased as the crystallization temperature decreased, and decreased as the TLCP content increased. The crystallization of PEN in the blend was affected by the addition of TLCP, which acts as a nucleating agent.

  • Poly(p-hydroxybenzoate) (PHB)/poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) 8/2 thermotropic liquid crystalline copolyester, poly(ethylene 2,6-naphthalate) (PEN), and PET ternary blend was spun to fiber by melt spinninB process, and tensile properties of the fibers were measured. The matrix of the fibers, PET and PEN, were dissolved in ο-chlorophenol at 55$^{\circ}C$ for 2 hours, and the liquid crystalline polymer fibrils were observed using a scanning electron microscope. Halpin-Tsai equation for modulus calculation of short fiber reinforced composite and the rule of mixture for continuous reinforcement composite were modified, and the tensile modulus were calculated and compared with experimental modulus. To minimize difference between the theoretical and the experimental moduli, dimensionless viscosity constant (K) was given and used to modify two equations. The theoretical tensile modulus using the newly modified equations presentel a similar to the experimental tensile modulus of composite, and the modified equations presented a unique way to determine the tensile modulus of the liquid crystalline polymer reinforced thermoplastic composites.

  • This paper is a study on the digitization of an analog 3D pen. The term digital implies features such as homeostasis, transformability, combinability, reproducibility, and convenience of storage. One device that produces a combination of these digital characteristics is a 3D printer, but its industrial use is limited due to low productivity and limitations with materials and physical characteristics. In particular, improvements are required to use 3D printers, such as better user accessibility owing to expertise and skills in modeling software and printers. Complementing this fact is the 3D pen, which is excellent in portability and ease of use, but has a limitation in that it cannot be digitized. Therefore, in order to secure a digitalization capability and ease of use, and to secure the safety of printing materials that pose controversial hazards during the printing process, research problems and alternatives have been derived by combining food, and digitization was demonstrated with a newly developed 3D pen. In order to digitize the 3D pen, a sensor in a structured device detects the motion of an analog 3D pen, and this motion is converted into 3D data (X-Y-Z coordinate values) through a spatial analysis algorithm. To prove this method, the similarity was confirmed by visualization using MeshLab version 1.3.4. It is expected that this food pen can be used in youth education and senior healthcare programs in the future.

  • It is necessary for young children to integrate the sense of sight, hearing, touch, etc. for developing their emotion and cognition. Thanks to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) development, young children have more opportunities to use various senses in learning process. However, ICT learning method is more focusing on the sense of sight and hearing, and lacks of integrated recognition and this fact leads to the reason why ICT can not be used as a main education tool. Therefore, this study evaluated the influence of wUbi-Pen(haptic device) on cognition using a computer puzzle program. The results show that young children using a haptic pen have greater intention and performance in object assembly, mazes, picture completion in K-WPPSI test than those of non-using haptic pen. This implies that haptic function should be considered in ICT material and indeed useful in various cognition-related symptoms and diseases.

  • Moving behavior of groups of Hanwoo was observed when solid side was applied along the straight single file chute. Dark blue liners (PVC coated fabric) were hung on the outer side along the steel bars of chute to block vision of cattle. Ten animals were grouped together in a batch to move through chute to the restrainter. Movement of animals through chutes were significantly faster when solid side with liners were applied than when they had open vision of flight zone. And the difference in movement time between of solid side and open side was even greater in a longer chute than in a shorter one. From the experiment with longer chute, we could not find any significant differences between presence or absence of solid sides in the time spent for the leaading cattle to enter the squeeze chute from crowd pen. But the average time spent for movement from squeeze gait to restrainter was 22.78±1.15 seconds with solid sides, which was much shorter than with open sides (40.56±4.46 seconds). Time required for batch of animals to move from crowd pen to restrainter and exit was much faster with solid sides than with open sides: 96.33±3.98 seconds vs. 121.89±5.54 seconds from leading animal to enter the squeeze chute until the last animal of the batch to exit restrainter and 104.56±3.89 vs. 131.22±6.42 seconds for the whole batch of animals to enter the squeeze chute and exit restrainter. Another experiment with shorter chute showed that animals balked to right angled edge of the crowed pen before entering squeeze chute. We could not find any differences in time requred for the leading animal to enter the crowd pen from holding pen. Total time spent from entrance of leading animal to crowd pen until the last animal to exit restrainter was shorter with solid sides than with open sides: 177.44±5.20 seconds vs. 193.44±7.46 seconds.

  • In this paper, we present a design and implementation of U-learning system using pen based augmented reality approach. Student has been given a smart pen and a smart study book, which is similar to the printed material already serviced. However, we print the study book using CMY inks, and embed perceptually invisible dot patterns using K ink. Smart pen includes (1) IR LED for illumination, IR pass filter for extracting the dot patterns, and (3) camera for image captures. From the image sequences, we perform topology analysis which determines the topological distance between dot pixels, and perform error correction decoding using four position symbols and five CRC symbols. When a student touches a smart study books with our smart pen, we show him/her multimedia (visual/audio) information which is exactly related with the selected region. Our scheme can embed 16 bit information, which is more than 200% larger than previous scheme, which supports 7 bits or 8 bits information.

  • Seven toxigenic molds isolated from deteriorated rice in Korea, Aspergillus clavatus, Asp. flavus var. columnaris, Asp. fumigatus, Asp. ochraceus, Penicillium citrinum, Pen. implicatum, and Pen. islandicum, were examined for their sensitivity toward Co-60 gamma rays for survival. Conidia of all tested species showed survival curves of sigmoidal type, from which decimal reduction doses were found to vary in the range of $14{\sim}33$ krad, induction doses, in the range of $12{\sim}56$ krad and inactivation factors at 200 krad, in the range of $4.6{\sim}12.8$, all at a dose rate of 11.56 krad/min. Dose rate effects on the radiosensitivity of Asp. flavus and Pen. islandicum conidia indicated that the higher dose rate (11.56 krad/min) caused decreases in decimal reduction doses as compared with the lower dose rate (2.67 krad/min).

  • Gametogenesis of the comb pen shell, Atrina pectinata (Linnaeus, 1767) (Bivalvia: Pinnidae) on the southern coast of Ulleungdo Island, Korea was assessed monthly (November 2013 to October 2014) using histology. Gametogenesis commenced in January when the surface water temperature was $12.6^{\circ}C$ and pen shells evidenced an early development phase with small oogonia from January to April, although few females exhibited ripe eggs in their follicular epithelium. In April, the oocyte diameter increased rapidly, and fully mature eggs appeared in May. First spawning males and females were observed in June as the surface water temperature reached $19.3^{\circ}C$ and July ($23.2^{\circ}C$) respectively. The spawning activity continued until the end of September. Histology indicated that the spawning peak of the females in Ulleungdo Island was July to August. During October to January, most of the pen shells were in spent and resting stages. Our data suggested that A. pectinata is a summer spawner, and their annual gametogenesis is closely associated with the seasonal variation in the surface water temperature. The present study is the first provided fundamental information on the life history of A. pectinata in Ulleungdo Island, and this can be put to good use in the management of this pen shell in the study area.
