Purpose : Surgery is the treatment of choice for resectable non-small cell lung cancer. For patients who are medically unable to tolerate a surgical resection or who refuse surgery, radiation therapy is an acceptable alternative. A retrospective analysis of Patients with stage I non-samll cell lung cancer treated with curative radiation therapy was performed to determine the results of curative radiation therapy and patterns of failure, and to identify factors that may influence survival. Materials and Methods : From 1986 through 1993, 39 Patients with T2N0M0 non-small cell lung cancer were treated with curative radiation therapy at department of radiation oncology, Kyungpook national university hospital. All Patients were not candidates for surgical resection because of either Patient refusal (16 patients), poor pulmonary function (12 patients), old age (7 patients), Poor Performance (2 patients) or coexisting medical disease (2 patients). Median age of patients was 67 years. Histologic cell type was squamous cell carcinoma in 36, adenocarcinoma in 1, large cell carcinoma in 1 and mucoepidermoid carcinoma in 1. All patients were treated with megavoltage irradiation and radiation dose ranged from 5000cgy to 6150cGy with a median dose of 6000cGy. The median follow-up was 17 months with a range of 4 to 82 months, Survival was measured from the date therapy initiated. Results : The overall survival rate for entire Patients was $40.6\%$ at 2 years and $27.7\%$ at 3 years, with a median survival time of 21 months. The disease-free survival at 2 and 3 years was $51.7\%$ and $25.8\%$, respectively. Of evaluable 20 patients with complete response, 15 patients were considered to have failed. Of these, 13 patients showed local failure and 2 patients failed distantly. Response to treatment (p=0.0001), tumor size (p=0.0019) and age (p=0.0247) were favorably associated with overall survival. Only age was predictive for disease-free survival (p = 0.0452). Conclusion : Radiation therapy is an effective treatment for small (less than 3cm) tumors, and should be offered as an alternative to surgery in elderly or infirm patients. Since local failure is the prominent Patterns of relapse, potential methods to improve local control with radiation therapy are discussed.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify trends for studies published in the Journal of Korean Academy of Nursing and journals published by member societies from inaugural issues to 2010. Methods: A total of 6890 studies were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: Quantitative studies accounted for 83.6% while qualitative studies accounted for 14.4%. Most frequently used research designs were quasi-experimental (91.1%) for experimental research and survey (85.2%) for non-experimental research. Most frequent study participants were healthy people (35.8%), most frequent nursing interventions, nursing skills (53.5%), and 39.8% used knowledge, attitude and behavior outcomes for dependent variables. Most frequently used keyword was elderly. Survey studies decreased from 1991 to 2010 by approximately 50%, while qualitative studies increased by about 20%. True experimental research (1.2%) showed no significant changes. Studies focusing on healthy populations increased from 2001-2005 (37.5%) to 2006-2010 (41.0%). From 1970 to 2010, studies using questionnaire accounted for over 50% whereas physiological measurement, approximately 5% only. Experimental studies using nursing skill interventions increased from 1970-1980 (30.4%) to 2006-2010 (64.0%). No significant changes were noted in studies using knowledge, attitude and behavior (39.9%) as dependent variables. Conclusion: The results suggest that further expansion of true experimental, qualitative studies and physiological measurements are needed.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common degenerative joint disorder in the elderly population. To identify OA-associated genetic variants and candidate genes, we conducted a genome-wide association study (GWAS). A total 3,793 samples (476 cases: wrist + knee and 3317 controls) from a community-based epidemiological study were genotyped using the Affymetrix SNP 5.0. An intronic SNP (rs4789934) in the TIMP2 (tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-2) showed the most significance with OA (odd ratio [OR] = 2.06, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 1.52-2.81, p = $4.01{\times}10^{-6}$). Furthermore, a poly-morphism (rs1352677) in the NKAIN2 ($Na^+/K^+$ transporting ATPase interacting 2) was suggestively associated with OA (OR = 1.43, CI = 1.22-1.66, p = $7.01{\times}10^{-6}$). The present study provides new insights into the identification of genetic predisposing factors for OA.
This study aims to analyze the factors that affect quality of life and sensory processing abilities in older adults. Participants were 121 older adults aged over 65. Quality of life was evaluated with Life satisfaction Index for the Elderly and sensory processing abilities were measured with Korean-AASP. Korean Activiy Card Sort was utilized to assess their activity level. Low positive correlations were found between quality of life and activity level in total score(p<.01), IADL(p<.05), leisure(p<.01), and social participation(p<.01). Correlation coefficients between quality of life and sensory processing abilities showed low negative correlations in low registration(p<.01), sensory sensitivity(p<.01), and sensation avoiding(p<.01), however, there were low positive correlations in sensation seeking(p<.05). The importance of sensory processing was highlighted from the findings of statistically significant correlations between quality of life and sensory processing abilities. This indicates that improvement of sensory processing abilities is critical in occupational therapy service for older adults. Furthermore, the findings of close relationship between activity levels and sensory processing abilities need to be reflected in senior welfare policy.

This study was conducted to examine the effects of depression, sleep and self-esteem on quality of life of elders living at home. A descriptive survey study was conducted based on a survey of 285 older people in person at five senior welfare centers in J city from May 20, 2016 to 9. The data were analyzed by at-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and multiple regression using SPSS WIN 21.0. The mean scores were depression $7.27{\pm}3.80$, sleep $30.75{\pm}9.35$, self-esteem $36.40{\pm}5.30$ and quality of life $8.05{\pm}2.53$. Depression(r=0.491, p<0.001) and sleep(r=0.590 p<0.001) were positively correlated with quality of life and negatively correlated with self-esteem (r=-0.234, p<0.001). The results of the regression indicated that depression, sleep, and self-esteem explained 39.9% of the variance in quality of life. Overall, these results suggest that depression, sleep and self-esteem were associated with quality of life. Therefore it is necessary to develop strategies to reduce depression and sleep disorders for community dwelling elders to improve quality of life.
Nowadays, recognizing human activities is an important subject; it is exploited widely and applied to many fields in real-life, especially in health care and context aware application. Research achievements are mainly focused on activities of daily living which are useful for suggesting advises to health care applications. Falling event is one of the biggest risks to the health and well-being of the elderly especially in independent living because falling accidents may be caused from heart attack. Recognizing this activity still remains in difficult research area. Many systems equipped wearable sensors have been proposed but they are not useful if users forget to wear the clothes or lack ability to adapt themselves to mobile systems without specific wearable sensors. In this paper, we develop a novel method based on analyzing the change of acceleration, orientation when the fall occurs and measure their similarity to featured fall patterns. In this study, we recruit five volunteers in our experiment including various fall categories. The results are effective for recognizing fall activity. Our system is implemented on G1 smart phone which are already plugged accelerometer and orientation sensors. The popular phone is used to get data from accelerometer and results showthe feasibility of our method and significant contribution to fall detection.
In this study, using the raw data of the 7th Food Consumption Behavior Survey(2019), compare and analyze what factors affect the food delivery service and take-out food expenditure of single-person and multi-person households. It was found that women(especially women in single-person households), have a high tendency to pursue safety preference versus price. In the future, Korea's population structure is expected to steadily increase single-person household and elderly households, and women's participation in economic activities is expected to continue to increase. In addition, the food delivery market has more than doubled compared to the previous year in 12 cities and provinces out of 17 cities and provinces nationwide with Covid-19, especially in the non-capital area, making it has become a universal service nationwide. Therefore, the growing home meal replacement market needs marketing strategies to secure and emphasize food safety.
Purpose: This study is to identify how depression, anxiety and social support influence on suicidal ideation of Parkinson disease patients related to general characteristics. Methods: This descriptive correlative study was conducted through an organized and structured questionnaire and 120 sampled Parkinson disease patients. Collected data was analyzed by t-tests, ANOVA, and Preason's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis using SPSS 19.0. Results : Finding revealed 1) The degrees of suicidal ideation were significantly different upon the martial status(F=3.37, p=.021) among groups, drinking(F=4.97, p=.008) and smoking history(F=4.77, p=.010): 2) Pearson's correlation coefficient indicated significant association among the depression, anxiety, social support and suicidal ideation 3) Multiple regression analysis showed depression(${\beta}=.58$ t=7.77, p<.001), social support(${\beta}=-.21$, t=-2.69, p=.008) and alcohol drinking(${\beta}=.17$ t=2.61, p=.010). Depression was the major influencing factor and it has 54% of explanation power. Conclusion: Based on the findings of this study, health professionals should provide parkinson disease patients with comprehensive and appropriate management method to prevent suicide ideation upon factors: depression, anxiety and social support to prevent suicide ideation. Especially, implement of self-help group program to parkinson disease patients is very needed.
At the department of prosthodontics, the elderly patients with severely atrophied alveolar ridge who have been wearing complete dentures for a long period frequently visit the clinic. In general, the open-mouth impression technique for manufacturing a mandibular complete denture to secure primary support on buccal shelf area has been prevalent. In addition, for securing retention and stability of mandibular denture, we should consider diagnosis, oral function, denture border, occlusal plane, teeth arrangement, and patient training, etc.. But in edentulous patients with severe alveolar bone atrophy, it may hardly secure retention and stability of mandibular complete denture. To promote these, some of clinicians are making an attempt manufacturing the mandibular complete dentures using closed-mouth impression technique based on several reports that compare various impression techniques including open-mouth and closed-mouth impression technique. This case report suggests closed-mouth impression technique may promote retention and stability of mandibular complete denture and compares between the two impression techniques clinically.
