Two truncated sequential tests are developed for the two-sample scale problem based on the usual Wilcoxon rank-sum statistic for two different dispersion indices - absolute median deviations, when the medians of the two populations X and Y are equal or known and sums of squared mean deviations, when the medians are either unknown or unequal. The first test is briefly called SWAMD test and the second SWSMD test. For the SWAMD test, the percentile points for both the one-sided and two-sided alternatives, (equation omitted) have been found by Wiener approximation and their values computed for a range of values of a and N; analytical expression for the power function has been derived through Wiener process and its performance studied for various sequential designs for exponential distribution. This test has been illustrated by a numerical example. All the results of the SWAMD test, being directly applicable to the SWSMD test, are not dealt with separately Both the tests are compared and their suitable applications indicated.

Various R&D programs for rocket-based combined cycle (RBCC) engines have progressed worldwide for the space development and the defense applications. As a way toward indigenous domestic RBCC program, a preliminary design of flight test conditions was studied in this study for a sub-scale RBCC engine using a sounding rocket. Launch and flight profiles were calculated for several booster options and compared with that of HyShot II program. The result shows that the Korea Sounding Rocket-II (KSR-II) is a proper candidate to perform the flight test available in Korea. The recommend flight test conditions with KSR-II are Mach 6.0 with a test vehicle of 230 kg and Mach 7.4 with 50 kg. Present study will soon be followed by a design of sub-scale RBCC for a flight test using a sounding rocket.
The dynamic stability of railway vehicle has been one of the important issues in railway safety. The dynamic simulator has been used in the study about the dynamic stability of railway vehicle and wheel/rail interface. Especially, a small scale simulator has been widely used in the fundamental study in the laboratory instead of full scale roller rig which is not cost effective and inconvenient to achieve diverse design parameters. But the technique for the design of the small scale simulator for the fundamental study about the dynamic characteristics of the wheel-rail system and the bogie system has not been well developed in Korea. Therefore, the research about the development of the small scale simulator and the bogie has been conducted. As this paper, To predict the dynamic behavior of railway vehicle, we studied running stability test of 1/5 scaled bogie that similarity laws is applied using small scale derailment simulator. For the operation of the small scale derailment simulator, it is required to investigate the performance and characteristics of the system. This could be achieved by a comparative study between an analysis and an experiment. This paper presented the analytical model which could be used for verifying of the test results and understanding of the physical behavior of the dynamic system comprising the small scale bogie and the simulator.

In the field of structural test, it is a very important factor to apply with an appropriate test jig to enhance test accuracy and efficiency. Especially in the large scale structure test, proper test apparatus scheme will reduce overall cost and time of the test project. Actuators, oil jack and UTM is generally used to evaluate the flexural capacity of the test beam. But in the case of multiple loading point or asymmetric loading of large scale test specimen, existing test method such as UTM have a difficulty in giving an accurate load. In this study new test method which is composed of existing test apparatus will be developed to improve test accuracy and economic efficiency.
Full-scale test facility is a huge system which is integrated by many subsystems. There are several critical elements in test facility system. Those elements may cause undesirably test article failure during testing. Therefore, test facility monitoring system which indicates the operating status of the critical elements is required for performing full-scale structural test. Selection of critical element and design of this monitoring system are explained in detail in this paper. The monitoring system developed are being applied to T-50 full-scale static test, will be expended for full-scale fatigue test in the near future.
The study on mechanical behavior of the structure at the site includes experimental method and numerical analysis method. Experimental method is categorized into true-scale test and laboratory model test. A laboratory model test is to monitor the failure mechanism with a model simulated similar with a real ground so as to identify the quantitative result, while a true-scale model test is the approach which enables to identify the potential problems that may occur with a simulated construction situation similar with a real site circumstance. Thus this study was intended to carry out the experimental test of non open-cut excavation by pipe roof method which is mostly common in domestic sites. as well as was aimed at identifying the ground behavior occurred during pipe penetration using laboratory model test. Appropriate reduced-scale model was selected, taking into account of domestic geological characteristics and operation characteristics of traditional and high-speed rail trains and the qualitative evaluation of displacement was carried out based on a certain ground loss volume depending on excavation after categorizing trackbed settlement pattern by depth of top soil.
The model production for large-scale (lateral length ≥ 2.0 m) capillary barrier (CB) model tests is time and cost-intensive. To address these limitations, the framework of a small-scale CB (SSCB) model test under the lateral no-flow condition has been established. In this study, to validate the experimental methodology of the SSCB model test, a series of seepage analyses on the SSCB model test and engineered slopes in the same and additional test conditions was performed. First, the seepage behavior and diversion length (LD) of the CB system were investigated under three rainfall conditions. In the seepage analysis for the engineered slopes with different slope angles and sand layer thicknesses, the LD increased with the increase in the slope angle and sand layer thickness, although the increase rate of the LD with the sand layer thickness exhibited an upper limit. The LD values from the seepage analysis agreed well with the results estimated from the laboratory SSCB mode test. Therefore, it can be concluded that the experimental methodology of the SSCB model test is one of the promising alternatives to efficiently evaluate the water-shielding performance of the CB system for an engineered slope.

A hydraulic scale model test with movable bed was performed to obtain design data for groins to protect the coast in front of the Sang-ri seadike in Sukmodo, located in the Han-river estuary area. The vertical scale of the model is 1/100 and the horizontal scale 1/250 according to Froude similitude. The result of test for original coast and groins showed that the coast in front of the Sang-ri seadike was eroded by tidal current. Three alternatives for the planning of new groins were tested. It is concluded that the alternative B-3 test scheme was the best plan to protect the coast among others.

Four types of experiments were performed to check the similitude of member behavior between prototype and 1/10 scale models:(1) Test of slender columns with P- effect, (2)Test of short columns with and without confinement steel, (3)Test of simple beams without stirrups, and (4)T-beam test. Based on the results of experiments, the conclusions were made as follows : (1) The P- effect of slender columns can be almost exactly represented by 1/10 acale model. (2)The effect of confinement on short columns by the hoop steel can also roughly simulated by 1/10 scale model. (3)The failure modes of simple beams models were the yielding of tension steel followed by large diagonal tension cracking+compressive concrete failure. (4)The behaviors of prototype and 1/10 scale model in T-beams appear very similar.

According to the Korean Design Code for port and harbor facilaties, bearing capacity of rubble mound under eccentric and inclined load is calculated by the simplified Bishop method, and strength parameters are recommended to be c=0.2kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and ø=35$^{\circ}$for standard rubble if the compressive strength of parent rock is greater than 300kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, quoting from research results by Jun-ichi Mizukami(1991), But this facts have never been certified in Korea because there was not large-scale triaxial test apparatus until 2000 in Korea. Firstly in Korea, the large-scale triaxial test (sample diameter, 30cm and height, 60cm) on the rubble originated from porous basalt rock in North-Cheju was accomplished. Then strength parameters for basalt rubble produced in North-Cheju are recommended to be c=0.3kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and ø=36$^{\circ}$if the compressive strength of parent rock is greater than 400kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$.
