  • In this paper, we propose multiple IS-MMBS service schemes for very low power and micro-size RMIMS (radio-interfaced micro information monitoring system) terminals. In MMBS service area, when new arrival RMIMS terminals have real-time traffic characteristic or large traffic bandwidth, only single IS-MMBS service scheme can not guarantee RMIMS terminal's QoS(quality of service) such as buffer overflow or packet loss. In this case, the proposed multiple IS-MMBS service schemes can be effectively used for QoS service of RMIMS terminal. According to clustering method of RMIMS terminals and MMBS segment method, the proposed schemes can be divided into terminal segment method, region segment method, application based segment method, traffic type based segment method, overlapping segment method and hybrid segment method

  • Time-specific responses of flower bud differentiation were investigated in 'Shinko' (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) pear grown at different altitudes from July through December 2013 to determine their suitability as scions in a top-grafting system. Flower bud initiation and bud necrosis were monitored on each of three sections of one-year-old shoots: terminal, middle, and basal. Flower bud differentiation s tarted in September in the highlands of the Lishan area, and in J uly in the lowlands of the Zhoulan area. In Lishan, flower bud differentiation was higher in the middle and basal segments; during leaf fall, however, flower bud differentiation occurred rapidly in the terminal segment. In Zhoulan, flower buds began to differentiate from the terminal section of the shoot, and severe flower bud necrosis was noted. In July, flower buds developed normally; however, in early August, some of the buds at the basal segment showed browning. During leaf fall, some flower buds showed symptoms of necrosis with rapid and complete browning. Flower bud necrosis began at the basal segment and progressed rapidly towards middle and terminal sections. Before leaf fall, flower buds fell off when scales swelled. The terminal and middle parts of the current-year shoots, with some flower buds, collected in October or later from the Lishan area could be used as scions for top-grafting of 'Shinko' pear. Each grafting scion was a 3-5 cm shoot with one flower bud. These results suggest that scions from the terminal and middle segments of stems of 'Shinko' pear from the Lishan area can be used as scions whereas those from Zhoulan area show necrosis and might not be suitable as scions.

  • Three species of the genus Centropages(C. calaninus, C. orsinii, and C. sinensis) were newly collected from Korean waters. The Korean specimens were consistent with previous descriptions, but differ in the following characteristics: in C. orsinii male right antennule with spine on dorsoposterior surface of each segment XIII and XIV; distal end of segment XIX with humplike process on dorsal surface; in C. calaninus female long spinelike process on second exopodal segment of leg 5 of reaching 1/2 length of terminal spine on third exopodal segment; in male, first endopodal segment of leg 5 without inner seta; left second exopodal segment serrated on distal margin; and in C. sinensis male distal spine of left second exopodal segment of leg 5 not fused with segment. In this study, key characters for species identification also were provided.

  • In this paper robust tracking control scheme using the new three-segment nonlinear sliding mode technique for nonlinear rigid robotic manipulator is developed. Sliding mode consists of three segments, the promotional acceleration segment, the constant velocity segment and the deceleration segment using terminal sliding mode. Strong robustness and fast error convergence can be obtained for rigid robotic manipulators with large uncertain dynamics by using the new three-segment nonlinear sliding mode technique together with a few useful structural properties of rigid robotic manipulator. The efficiency of the proposed method for the tracking has been demonstrated by simulations for two-link robot manipulator.

  • Complement fragment iC3b serves as a major opsonin for facilitating phagocytosis via its interaction with complement receptors CR3 and CR4, also known by their leukocyte integrin family names, αMβ2 and αXβ2, respectively. Although there is general agreement that iC3b binds to the αM and αX I-domains of the respective β2-integrins, much less is known regarding the regions of iC3b contributing to the αX I-domain binding. In this study, using recombinant αX I-domain, as well as recombinant fragments of iC3b as candidate binding partners, we have identified two distinct binding moieties of iC3b for the αX I-domain. They are the C3 convertase-generated N-terminal segment of the C3b α'-chain (α'NT) and the factor I cleavage-generated N-terminal segment in the CUBf region of α-chain. Additionally, we have found that the CUBf segment is a novel binding moiety of iC3b for the αM I-domain. The CUBf segment shows about a 2-fold higher binding activity than the α'NT for αX I-domain. We also have shown the involvement of crucial acidic residues on the iC3b side of the interface and basic residues on the I-domain side.

  • Eukaryotic translation is initiated by either cap-dependent or cap-independent way, and the cap-independent translation can be initiated by the internal ribosomal entry site (IRES). In this study, to know whether the 5'UTR leader sequence of marine birnavirus (MABV) segment A and segment B can act as IRES, bicistronic vectors harboring a CMV promoter-driven red fluorescent gene (mCherry) and poliovirus IRES- or MABV's leader sequence-driven green fluorescent gene (eGFP) were constructed, then, transfected into a mammalian cell line (BHK-21 cells) and a fish cell line (CHSE-214 cells). The results showed that the poliovirus IRES worked well in BHK-21 cells, but did not work in CHSE-214 cells. In the evaluation of MABV's leader sequences, the reporter eGFP gene under the 5'UTR leader sequence of MABV's segment A was well-translated in CHSE-214 cells, indicating 5'UTR of MABV's segment A initiates translation in the cap-independent way and can be used as a fish-specific IRES system. However, the 5'UTR leader sequence of MABV's segment B did not initiate translation in CHSE-214 cells. As the precise mechanism of birnavirid IRES-mediated translation is not known, more elaborate investigations are needed to uncover why the leader sequence of segment B could not initiate translation in the present study. In addition, further studies on the host species range of MABV's segment A IRES and on the screening of other fish-specific IRESs are needed.

  • A new species of Baetidae (Ephemeroptera), Procloeon spinosum Nguyen and Bae, is described from Vietnam. The larva of P. spinosum can be distinguished from that of its congeners by the combination of the characters of the 7th gills, which bear spines on the posterobasal margin, and the terminal segment of maxillary palp, which is approximately 1/3 times length of the 2nd segment. The larvae inhabit pools or slow current margins of mountain streams in Northern Vietnam.

  • Lichomolgus panikkari Gnanamuthu, 1955 (=Indomolgus panikkari), an incompletely known species, is redescribed based on a male specimen found newly from the Yellow Sea. A new genus of copepods, Lutumidomus, is proposed to incorporate Lichomolgus panikkari, Notoxynus tertius Kim, 2000, and Lutumidomus parvus n. sp., all associated with sea anemones. The new genus is differentiated from the related genera by a combination of characters that the antenna is 4-segmented, with a claw and an enlarged seta in addition to other setae on the fourth segment, the third endopodal segment of leg 3 is armed with two spines and two setae, the second endopodal segment of leg 4 is armed with two spines and three setae, and the maxillule is armed with two terminal setae. Paramolgus nudipes n. sp. and Verutipes scutatus n. sp. are also described as associates of sea anemones from Korean seas.
