The determination method of l-ephedrine and dl-methylephedrine by gas chromatography was developed, using reactive alkaline precolumn packed with celite 545 containing KOH. Symmetrical peaks were achieved under the condition, inlet temperature, $180^{\circ}C$-$230^{\circ}C$; column temperature, $180^{\circ}C$- $160^{\circ}C$; carrier gas flow rate, 30ml/minute. The peaks of the salts coincided with those of bases. When this method was applied to preparations, using d-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde as inner standard, good results were obtained. The relative retention times of l-ephedrine and dl-methylephedrine to p-dimethyl aminobenzaldehyde were 0.50 and 0.65 respectively.

$MgH_2$ was employed as a starting material instead of Mg in this work. A sample with a composition of 94 wt% $MgH_2-6$ wt% Ni (called $MgH_2-6Ni$) was prepared by reactive mechanical grinding. The hydriding and dehydriding properties were then examined. An $MgH_2-Ni$ hydrogen storage alloy that does not require an activation process was developed. The alloy was prepared in a planetary ball mill by grinding for 4 h at a ball disc revolution speed of 250 rpm under a hydrogen pressure of about 12 bar. The sample absorbed 3.74 wt% H for 5 min, 4.07 wt% H for 10 min, and 4.41 wt% H for 60 min at 573 K under 12 bar $H_2$, and desorbed 0.93 wt% H for 10 min, 1.99 wt% H for 30 min, and 3.16 wt% H for 60 min at 573 K under 1.0 bar $H_2$. $MgH_2-6Ni$ after reactive mechanical grinding contained ${\beta}-MgH_2$ (a room temperature form of $MgH_2$), Ni, ${\gamma}-MgH_2$ (a high pressure form of $MgH_2$), and a very small amount of MgO. Reactive mechanical grinding of Mg with Ni is considered to facilitate nucleation, and to reduce the particle size of Mg. $Mg_2Ni$ formed during reactive mechanical grinding also increases the hydriding and dehydriding rates of the sample.

We have studied Zr(Si)N film as a diffusion barrier between Cu metal and Si substrate for application of interconnection metal in ULSI circuits. Zr(Si)N film was deposited with reactive DC magnetron sputtering system using $Ar/N_2$mixed gas. The value of the resistivity was the lowest for the ZrN film using 29 : 1 of Ar : $N_2$reactant gas ratio at room temperature and decreased with increasing of Si substrate temperature. As the value of ZrN film resistivity was decreased, the direction of crystal growth was toward to (002) plane. The barrier property of ZrN film added with Si was improved. But Si was added too much in ZrN film, the barrier property was degraded. The adhesive property was improved with increasing of Si in ZrN. For the analysis of the film, XRD, Optical microscopy, Scretch tester, so on were used.
A phthalocyanine reactive dye was applied to nylon fibers to study the effects of the temperature and pH on % exhaustion and fixation. In addition, appropriate predictable empirical models, relatively new approaches in dyeing process, were developed incorporating interactions effects of temperature and pH for predicting the both % exhaustion and fixation. The significance of the mathematical model developed was ascertained using Excel regression (solver) analysis module. A very high correlation coefficient was obtained ($R^2=0.9895$ for % exhaustion, $R^2=0.9932$ for fixation) for the model which shows prominent prediction capacity of the model for the unknown conditions. The predictable polynomial equations developed from the Experimental results were thoroughly analyzed by ANOVA (Analysis of Variance) statistical concepts.
The objective of this study was to apply the statistical technique known as design of experiments to optimize the % exhaustion variables for phthalocyanine dyeing of nylon fiber. In this study, a three-factor Central Composite Rotatable Design (CCRD) was used to establish the optimum conditions for the phthalocyanine reactive dyeing of nylon fiber. Temperature, pH and liquor ratio were considered as the variable of interest. Acidic solution with higher temperature and lower liquor ratio were found to be suitable conditions for higher % exhaustion. These three variables were used as independent variables, whose effects on % exhaustion were evaluated. Significant polynomial regression models describing the changes on % exhaustion and % fixation with respect to independent variables were established with coefficient of determination, R2, greater than 0.90. Close agreement between experimental and predicted yields was obtained. Optimum conditions were obtained using surface plots and Monte Carlo simulation techniques where maximum dyeing efficiency is achieved. The significant level of both the main effects and interaction was observed by analysis of variance (ANOVA) approach. Based on the statistical analysis, the results have provided much valuable information on the relationship between response variables and independent variables. This study demonstrates that the CCRD could be efficiently applied for the empirical modeling of % exhaustion and % fixation in dyeing. It also shows that it is an economical way of obtaining the maximum amount of information in a short period of time with least number of experiments.

Tin oxide thin films were prepared on borosilicate glass by rf reactive sputtering at different deposition powers, process pressures and substrate temperatures. The ratio of oxygen/argon gas flow was fixed as 10 sccm / 60 sccm in this study. The structural, electrical and optical properties were examined by the design of experiment to evaluate the optimized processing conditions. The Taguchi method was used in this study. The films were characterized by X-ray diffraction, UV-Vis spectrometer, Hall effect measurements and atomic force microscope. Tin oxide thin films exhibited three types of crystal structures, namely, amorphous, SnO and $SnO_2$. In the case of amorphous thin films the optical band gap was widely spread from 2.30 to 3.36 eV and showed n-type conductivity. While the SnO thin films had an optical band gap of 2.24-2.49 eV and revealed p-type conductivity, the $SnO_2$ thin films showed an optical band gap of 3.33-3.63 eV and n-type conductivity. Among the three process parameters, the plasma power had the most impact on changing the structural, electrical and optical properties of the tin oxide thin films. It was also found that the grain size of the tin oxide thin films was dependent on the substrate temperature. However, the substrate temperature has very little effect on electrical and optical properties.
In this investigation, we observed surface morphology and porosity of a macroporous adsorbent made of Na-bentonite and Ca-bentonite as structure formation materials and grounded waste paper as macropore forming material for the development of a permeable reactive barrier to remove heavy metals in groundwater. Therefore, we selected minerals having higher cation exchange capacity among 2:1 clay minerals and other industrial minerals because sintering can significantly influence cation exchange capacity, resulting in drastic decrease in removal of heavy metals. The results showed that the increasing sintering temperature drastically decreased CEC by less than 10 % of the indigenous CEC carried by the selected minerals. One axial compressibility test results showed that the highest value was obtained from 5% newspaper waste pulp for both structure formation materials of Na-bentonite and Ca-bentonite although there were not much difference in bulk density among treatments. The pore formation influenced by sintering temperature and period contributes removal of heavy metals passing through the sintered macroporous media having different water retention capacity.
Squeeze casting was used for fabricating a light metal base composite having high strength and wearresistance. Reactive sintering was used to prepare the preform of Squeeze casting. To utilize Fe-Al intermetallic compounds and SiC particle as a reinforcement, there needs to prepare Fe-Al mixed powder at 50, 60, 70at.%Al, and add SiC powder to the above mixture at 4, 7, 16, 24wt.%. The prepared mixture with SiC was reactive sintered in a tube furnace at $660^{\circ}C$ to get a porous hybrid preform of intermetallic compound and SiC. The preform prepared above was placed in a metal mold, preheated at $660^{\circ}C$ AC4C matrix was injected into the mold with the temperature of the melt at $610^{\circ}C$ After these processes, 66MPa was applied to the mold for 5 minute to finish the whole procedure. The maximum reaction temperature was increased with the increased Al amount, but decreased with the increased SiC amount. The density of the preform was decreased with SiC amount increase in the compacts due to swelling of the preform. An optical microscope was applied to observe the micro structure and the dispersion of the reinforcements. To analyze phases, We utilized XRD, EDS. Hardness test were chosen to get the information of mechanical properties. There were no significant changes in micro structure between the composite and preform. However, it was shown that uniform dispersion of the reinforcers and complete infiltration of the melt into the preform were achieved through the procedure of the squeeze casting. It was observed that the hardness of the composite is decreased with increased SiC amount, resulting from the volumetric expansion of the preform.
Effects of rf power, pressure, sputtering gas composition, and substrate temperature on the deposition rate of the $WC_x$ coatings were investigated. The effects of rf power and sputtering gas composition on the hardness and corrosion resistance of the $WC_x$ coatings deposited by reactive sputtering were also investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) analyses were performed to determine the structures and compositions of the films, respectively. The hardnesses of the films were investigated using a nanoindenter, scanning electron microscopy, ana a salt-spray test, respectively. The deposition rate of the films was proportional to rf power and inversely proportional to the $CH_4$ content of $Ar/CH_4$ sputtering gas. The deposition rate linearly increased with increasing chamber pressure. The hardness of the $WC_x$ coatings Increased as rf power increased. The highest hardness was obtained at a $Ar/CH_4$ concentration of $10 vol.\%$ in the sputtering gas. The hardness of the $WC_x$ film deposited under optimal conditions was found to be much higher than that of the electroplated chromium film, although the corrosion resistance of the former was slightly lower than that of the latter.
Colored compounds adsorption from the textile dyeing effluents on activated carbons produced from various indigenous vegetable sources by zinc chloride activation is studied. The most important parameters in chemical activation were found to be the chemical ratio of $ZnCl_2$ to feed (3:1), carbonization temperature (460-470 $^{\circ}C$) and time of activation (75 min). The absorbance at 511 nm (red effluent) and 615 nm (blue effluent) are used for estimation of color. It is established that at optimum temperature ($50^{\circ}C$), time of contact (30-40 min) and adsorbent loading (2 g/L), activated carbons developed from rain tree (Samanea saman) saw dust and blackberry (Randia formosa) tree saw dust showed great capability to remove color materials from the effluents. It is observed that adsorption of reactive dyes by all types of activated carbons is more than that of disperse dyes. It is explained that because of its acidic nature the activated carbon can adsorb better reactive dye particles containing large number of nitrogen sites and $-SO_3Na$ group in their structure. The use of activated carbons from the indigenous biomass would be economical, because saw dusts are readily available waste worldwide.
