  • Objective: The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of supplementing pasture-finished steers with corn silage on the expression level of the calpain system proteins and beef tenderization. Methods: Thirty Braford steers grazing on summer pasture were used for the study. For 120 days fifteen animals were supplemented with corn silage at 1% of body weight per head per day (Suppl) whereas the remaining 15 steers only received pasture (Contr). Carcass and meat traits were evaluated and compared between groups. Gene expression and activities of proteases (calpain 1 and calpain 2) and inhibitor (calpastatin) were measured using real-time polymerase chain reaction and casein zymography. Results: Carcass and meat traits were significantly different between feeding systems. Supplemented steers showed higher hot carcass weight (p<0.01), fat content (p = 0.02), and Warner-Bratzler shear force (p = 0.03). Furthermore, the control group showed higher protease:inhibitor ratios, at mRNA (p = 0.01) and protein levels (p<0.10). Warner-Bratzler shear force and mRNA calpains:calpastatin ratio were associated in both feeding systems (p<0.01). Conclusion: Based on the results obtained in the study, beef tenderness differences among finishing strategies could be modulated through differential expression of the calpain system proteins.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the primary sources to improve the problem solving performance by analyzing the errors and the strategies selection of the high school students when solving given algebraic problems. To attain the purpose of this study, the questions for investigation in this study are : 1. What are the differences / similarities in the patterns of errors committed by successful and unsuccessful problem-solvers when solving particular algebraic problems ? 2. What are the error types chosen by unsuccessful problem-solvers when solving particular algebraic problems? 3. Do students utilize checking, either locally or globally, when solving particular algebraic problems? Twenty students were drawn out of 10th grade students in J girls' high school in Yengi -gun, Chung-Nam, for this study. The problem-solving test was used as a test instrument. From the data, the verbal protocols and the written protocols were analyzed by the patterns. The conclusions drawn from the results obtained in the present study are as follows: First, in solving particular algebraic problems, when the problems were solved with one strategy, most students didn't give any consideration to other strategies. So mathematics teachers should teach them to use the various strategies, and should develop the problems to be used the various strategies. Second, in solving particular algebraic problems, errors on notions or transformations of equations were found. Thus, the basic knowledges related to equation should be taught. In addition, most unsuccessful students seleted the strategies inadequately to solve the problems because of misunderstanding the problems. So, to improve the problem solving performance the processes of 'understanding problem' should be emphasized to students. Third, although the unsuccesful students used the 'checking' processes when solving the problems, most of them did not find the errors because of misconceptions related to the problems, carelessness, and unskillfulness of checking. Thus, students must be taught more carefully and encouraged to use the checking.

  • While the social activities using Internet become generalized, the side effect of the information security violation is increasing steadily and threaten the countries which is not ready to prevent from offensive penetration such as the Information-fighter or Cyber-military. In this paper, we define the concept and characteristics of the modern Information-Warfare and analyze various kinds of threatened elements and also examine the recent trend in other countries. And introducing Computer Forensics raised recently for the confrontation against the security violation in the future, we will show the developing strategies and the necessity in order to response cyber attacks. These developing strategies can be used to ensure and re-trace the technical evidence for the security violation and to achieve the disaster relief effectively. So we hope that can apply them to the actual preparation through developing cyber trial test of the defense and attack for the Information-Warfare.

  • Based on the risk factor evaluation for the file format, this paper defines the procedures for presenting the long-term preservation plan for that format and the technical information registry necessary for building the system. This is a procedure to perform a risk assessment for the format, evaluate the risk, and select a long-term preservation strategy based on the information registered in the registry and information on the external signature and internal signature of the electronic record. We also reviewed the criteria for selecting appropriate long-term preservation strategies in the process and provided the criteria for adopting each detailed strategy of migration and emulation, which are long-term preservation strategies. And we implemented this process as a long-term preservation decision support system. This system can be used to provide guidelines for the maintenance, management, service and long-term preservation of information resources of electronic records in public institutions such as National Archives of Korea and Libraries.

  • This paper's objective is to provide insights about the problems and expansion strategies of electronic trade. Korean small and medium-sized firms have adopted the Internet since the end of 1990s in order to reshape their competitiveness, and it is now being utilized as a major export marketing instrument to develop new customers, save export transaction costs ad facilitate new work processes. However, at present, the use of the internet in the field of trading is limited to the collection of market information, owing to legal, technical and institutional restraints between countries. In addition to that, because firms have the difficulties in making the trade contract through the e-trade system, the negative recognition on its' utility has been spreaded gradually between companies. This is one of the barriers to block the expansion of e-Trade between Korean firms. Therefore, this paper points out the problems of e-trade in the environmental, institutional and strategic view and provides many considerations for establishing the expansion strategy of e-trade by the Korean government and trade supporting institutions.

  • Lineage tracing is a widely used method for understanding cellular dynamics in multicellular organisms during processes such as development, adult tissue maintenance, injury repair and tumorigenesis. Advances in tracing or tracking methods, from light microscopy-based live cell tracking to fluorescent label-tracing with two-photon microscopy, together with emerging tissue clearing strategies and intravital imaging approaches have enabled scientists to decipher adult stem and progenitor cell properties in various tissues and in a wide variety of biological processes. Although technical advances have enabled time-controlled genetic labeling and simultaneous live imaging, a number of obstacles still need to be overcome. In this review, we aim to provide an in-depth description of the traditional use of lineage tracing as well as current strategies and upcoming new methods of labeling and imaging.

  • Since the development of the first genetically-modified mouse, transgenic animals have been utilized for a wide range of industrial applications as well as basic research. To date, these transgenic animals have been used in functional genomics studies, disease models, and therapeutic protein production. Recent advances in genome modification techniques such zinc finger nuclease (ZFN), transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALEN), and clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRIPSR)-Cas9, have led to rapid advancement in the generation of genome-tailored livestock, as well as experimental animals; however, the development of genome-edited poultry has shown considerably slower progress compared to that seen in mammals. Here, we will focus primarily on the technical strategies for production of transgenic and gene-edited chickens, and their potential for future applications.

  • The cognitive constraints of the human mind must drive the decisions in architecture and methodology design in order that the systems we build are comprehensible. This paper presents a methodology for the design of time-triggered embedded systems that leads to understandable artifacts. We lift the design process to a higher level of abstractionto the level of computational components that interact solely by the exchange of messages. The time-triggered architecture makes it possible to specify the temporal properties of component interfaces precisely and provides temporally predictable message communication, such that the precise behavior of a large design can be studied in the early phases of a design on the basis of the component interface specifications. This paper shows how the cognitive simplification strategies of abstraction, partitioning and segmentation are supported by the time-triggered architecture and its associated design methodology to construct evolvable embedded systems that can be readily understood and modified.

  • Recently, it is becoming the big issue internationally where the safety problem of the industrial product including the foodstuffs. The way is able to construct the trust of the consumer that the external specialized agency independently operating confirms what production process of the product keep a standard or a technical regulation. This is conformity assessment. In the many countries, agencies entrusted government authority do conformity assessment. Specially, 'certification' in one form of conformity assessment process is operating a certification system at the government and the non-government body in Korea. Also non-government certification is fixed by trusted system from consumer. He has to prepare a competitive power in liberalization time, so need the countermeasure urgently. This study purpose that develops strategy so as to activating of non-government certification system in gist of the origination called 'self-control.' I present activation strategies using SWOT/AHP analysis.
