  • Developing pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) has been emphasized as one of the requirements for science teacher's professionalism, and it should be done from systematic teacher training courses. In this study, we investigated the components considered in planning instruction and the difficulties encountered in implementing it in PCK held by secondary pre-service teachers. Twenty-seven juniors at a college of education in Seoul were asked to perform teaching demonstrations using scientific instruction models. They were also requested to write reflective journals and interview. Analyses of the results revealed that teaching strategies and learners' cognitive affective aspects were considered by most secondary pre-service teachers, whereas curriculum and assessment were regarded by few of them. For examples, choosing instruction models and organizing instructions were concerned in teaching strategies. They also considered learners' cognitive affective aspects for selecting experiments as main activities. Only few considered learners' prior-knowledge. Most difficulties encountered in planning instruction and implementing it appeared in teaching strategies. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

  • The purposes of this study are to investigate Korean science teachers' perception of the current science teacher preparation courses in Korea, especially focused on subjects of science education, and to induce implications for improvement of in-service program for science teachers. To do this, a questionnaire was developed by the authors and administered to the 215 science teachers sampled nationwide. The study concluded that science teachers perceived that the two compulsory subjects, 'science education theories' and 'science teaching-learning materials and teaching methods' were not enough for a professional science teacher. Particularly, they consisently insisted that more practices under the relationship with teaching science in schools were necessary when learning subjects of science education. Based on science teachers' response, we recommended that the following 4 subjects should be added in the course of pre-service program for science teachers: 'Development of experiment/demonstration devices', 'Teaching creativity and education for the gifted in science', 'Development of science teaching materials', and 'Science inquiry learning and teaching'.

  • , or The Story of Jeonuchi, is a classical Korean novel written at an unknown date by an unknown writer. It has a few different editions presumably because they were printed from a variety of different woodcuts carved in a few dialects. The present study examines The Story of Jeonuchi based on one of its earliest editions collected by the Academy of Korean Studies. Focused on the novel's main ideas of educational value, the author explores effective educational means to teach these ideas to college students. The novel's main ideas with edifying qualities include: alleviating resentment of the people, punishing the greedy, promoting filial piety and loyalty to the sovereign, and antagonism between disloyal forces. And these ideas can be effectively discussed in class using brainstorming, demonstration and logical description. Changing time requires a different approach to understanding and appreciating classical novels. Based on this awareness, the study seeks to find an effective way to teach today's students about literature from a different time. It also stresses that this process involves encouraging the students to logically express their ideas in writing.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an astronomy education program reflecting astronomical thinking to be used at science museum and to investigate the effect of the program on the improvement of astronomical thinking ability of high school students. After selecting the components of astronomical thinking through literature studies, we developed an astronomy education program consisting of four stages: demonstration and observation, and question and thinking, support and group discussion, demonstration and assessment. In order to verify the effectiveness of the program, we conducted a covariance analysis on the pre- and post-tests of the experimental group and control group to examine the level of students' thinking before and after using the program in teaching and learning. As a result, it was confirmed that the astronomy education program reflecting astronomical thinking was effective in promoting students' astronomical thinking ability. In particular, this program was effective in enhancing the ability of modeling by reconstructing the observed astronomical phenomenon from the viewpoint of the universe with respect to spatial thinking in the astronomy domain. It was also effective to improve the ability of organizing the system by grasping the relationship between the elements constituting the astronomical system in relation to the system thinking in the astronomy domain. This study is significant in suggesting a specific teaching and learning program to develop students' astronomical thinking.

  • Online teaching has become a daily routine in schools after 2020, and at the same time, the ability to design and conduct classes using smart devices and apps is becoming more important to teachers. Therefore, in this study, we tried to find out how the demonstration of classes using smart devices and apps online has an effect on the intentions of prospective teachers who want to use them in the future. To this end, classes were designed according to the design principles for improving smart education capabilities of pre-service teachers, and the classes were conducted for pre-service teachers. Afterwards, the variables included in the UTAUT model, such as Performance Expectancy, effort Expectancy, social influence, Voluntariness of Use, Behavioral Intention, and Facilitating Conditions, were measured before and after classes, respectively, and the effectiveness of the class was verified through t-test of response samples. As a result, it was confirmed that all variables except the Facilitating Conditions had a significant positive(+) effect. These results suggest that online class demonstration education can be a way for pre-service teachers to more practically adapt to the educational field where smart education is required.

  • Currently robots are widely used in schools for educational purpose. With wide spread of robot-based education, it is known that major advantage of robot-based education is to enhance creativity and logical thinking of students. Although robots can be very useful tools for assisting students' study activities, there have not been lots of teaching-learning models for robot-based education. In this paper, a teaching-learning model is presented for robot-based education. The proposed model is designed based on constructivism. The proposed model consists of 6 stages: preparation, design, assembling, demonstration run, evaluation, and application & extension. The proposed model has the following characteristics. First, the proposed model is designed to enhance creativity and logical thinking ability of learners. Learners are supposed to be involved in self-directed activities and required to provide results based on their own ideas. Teachers are supposed to mediate students only if necessary. Second, learners are encouraged to participate in activity via diverse interaction. The interaction in this model includes learner-to-learner interaction, learner-to-teacher interaction, and learner-to-expert interaction. The proposed model encourages learners to solve the problem with cooperating each other. Also, teachers are supposed to guide students if necessary and observe and monitor behavior of students all the time. Third, motivation is provided in the beginning stage of the instruction. Fourth, in the proposed model, both study results and study process are equally important. In the model, study process is reviewed at the final stage.

  • The convergence progress in science technology and ensuing changes in educational environments require another huge change in education programs in the 21st century defined as a knowledge-based information society. But nowadays, prospective college students are increasingly avoiding natural science and engineering. So, educational fields in korea need suitable convergence educational programs (STEAM: science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) for creative competent person who is training and experiencing. In addition, environmental design fields are predicting about spread of Kinetic architecture. Therefore the aim of this study is developing convergence hand-on educational program which is incorporate robot science into environmental design for children. The program and teaching materials were developed by mapping between robot science and environmental design process leading the Design Promote Committee in KIID(Korea Institute of Interior Design) supported research teams in Hansung University. And then, For utility of the program, we had a 3 times of demonstration of empirical education. First, graduate students of design and robot major, and small group of children who are selected, at last, 63 children who are applying the program randomly. For more high quality program, we were conducting survey of post-empirical education evaluation for children and their parents. In conclusion, we found out highly satisfaction of the program those two groups. Also they need more organized places, time, task and so on. And the convergence educational program would develop by systematic approach and empirical research. At last, various and series convergence programs and teaching materials would develop creative competency based for regular and irregular courses of whole educational period.
