  • Learners and users of a second language have to resort to a variety of conversational strategies or structures to enable them to communicate effectively and competently. Factors affecting effective communication among English as a second or English as foreign language (ESL/EFL) learners are diverse in nature because of different socio-cultural backgrounds. Gambits as a conversational strategy are used to a large extent and teachers must be made aware of such conversational strategies used by English as second or foreign language learners. Thus, studies focusing on conversational strategies among ESL/EFL learners in the English language classroom are important in order to identify the types of conversational strategies used and to help teachers to understand the appropriate conversational strategies and structures. Such understanding can be used to guide learners to use correct conversational strategies when communicating in English. The purpose of this paper is to highlight the use of gambits as a communication strategy in conversation among non-native speakers of English in an English as a second language(ESL) context based on Kellers conversational strategy signals. • The purpose of this study is to analyze the teaching and learning strategies included in the inquiry tasks of elementary moral textbooks with multiple intelligences (M.I), and to propose educational information services of teacher librarians. It was found that the tasks were mainly designed by the linguistic intelligence, logical & mathematical intelligence and spatial intelligence. In terms of the information literacy process, linguistic intelligence and spatial intelligence are mainly applied to the analysis-understanding stage. Logical & mathematical intelligence is applied to the stage of comprehensive-application and linguistic intelligence is applied to expression-delivery step. In order to cultivate the insufficient M.I in inquiry activities, teacher librarians should improve room and teaching materials of their school library and provide workbooks using the graphic organizer after analyzing the linkage of the inquiry tasks between the subjects.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the quality of 67 kinds of e-learning contents in an attempt to boost the effectiveness of distance teacher training. As a result of analyzing, the e-learning contents were rated highest in terms of 'training content,' followed by 'instructional design,' 'teaching & learning strategies,' 'evaluation' and 'interaction.' The scores of 'teaching & learning strategies,' 'evaluation' and 'interaction' were below 80 that was the standard of quality certification. In mean comparison(ES) of contents quality level between certified contents and non certified contents, 'instructional design' had the largest ES(effect size), followed by 'teaching & learning strategies,' 'evaluation'. In the analysis of evaluation factors, most of factors had a large effect such as 'webpage layout', 'selection of instructional design'. The findings of the study are expected to suggest what improvements should be made in the development of e-learning contents for distance teacher training.

  • The aim of this study is providing basic data to design successful in-service training program for teacher librarians by analyzing their preference on subjects of customized intensive programs for indicators of teacher expertise development. According to the survey, teacher librarians seem to regard training subjects such as Reading Education and Information Literacy Instruction related educational information services as core jobs and prefer developing instructional contents and materials. Under the levels of school it seems that teacher librarians in the elementary school are interested in programs for library activation, management of volunteers, analyses of users' needs and curricula, evaluations of user instruction and information literacy instruction. Older teacher librarians favor an understanding of metadata, building and supporting information system and instruction. Therefore, training subjects for teacher librarians should be formed by linking strategies between school library instruction and subject curricula. And in terms of the method of training, case studies and practical training might be better than lectures based on the theory.
