In this paper, a simple and robust algorithm is proposed for detecting straight line segments in a steel plate image. Line detection from a steel plate image is a fundamental task for analyzing and understanding of the image. The proposed algorithm is based on small eigenvalue analysis. The proposed approach scans an input edge image from the top left comer to the bottom right comer with a moving mask. A covariance matrix of a set of edge pixels over a connected region within the mask is determined and then the statistical and geometrical properties of the small eigenvalue of the matrix are explored for the purpose of straight line detection. Before calculating the eigenvalue, each line segment is separated from the edge image where several line segments are overlapped to increase the accuracy of the line detection. Additionally, unnecessary line segments are eliminated by the number of pixels and the directional information of the detected line edges. The respects of the experiments emphasize that the proposed algorithm outperforms the existing algorithm which uses small eigenvalue analysis.

Multiple expression levels of genes obtained using time series microarray experiments have been exploited effectively to enhance understanding of a wide range of biological phenomena. However, the unique nature of microarray data is usually in the form of large matrices of expression genes with high dimensions. Among the huge number of genes presented in microarrays, only a small number of genes are expected to be effective for performing a certain task. Hence, discounting the majority of unaffected genes is the crucial goal of gene selection to improve accuracy for disease diagnosis. In this paper, a non-Gaussian weight matrix obtained from an incremental model is proposed to extract useful features of multivariate time series microarrays. The proposed method can automatically identify a small number of significant features via discovering hidden variables from a huge number of features. An unsupervised hierarchical clustering representative is then taken to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology. The proposed method achieves promising results based on predictive accuracy of clustering compared to existing methods of analysis. Furthermore, the proposed method offers a robust approach with low memory and computation costs.

The purpose of this study is to explore ways to improve the quality of real-time video lectures in a non-face-to-face environment using IPA (Importance-Performance Analysis). Recently, due to the impact of COVID-19 in universities, all remote classes are being implemented, so research is needed to raise learner awareness. Accordingly, factor analysis, mean analysis, correspondence analysis, and IPA analysis were performed based on the data of 632 students who responded from March 21 to June 30, 2021 for learners of K University in Chungbuk. First, overall satisfaction was low compared to importance, and the difference in system perception was the largest. Second, the difference in learner perception of real-time video lectures through the IPA matrix showed that the system error and screen cutoff were the largest. Third, the difficulty of lecture content, task and test feedback, etc. are classified. Accordingly, the satisfaction of real-time video lectures in non-face-to-face environments is low, suggesting that school-level support for quality improvement to improve learner satisfaction in non-face-to-face environments and the role of instructors are needed to improve learners' academic achievement.
An important aspect of the study of power system markets involves the assessment of strategic behavior of participants for maximizing their profits. In models of imperfect competition of a deregulated electricity system the key task is to find the Nash equilibrium. In this paper, the bimatrix approach for finding Nash equilibria in electricity markets is investigated. This approach determines pure and mixed equilibria using the complementarity pivot algorithm. The mixed equilibrium in the matrix approach has the equal number of non-zero property. This property makes it difficult to reproduce a smooth continuous distribution for the mixed equilibrium. This paper proposes an algorithm for adjusting the quantization value of discretization to reconstruct a continuous distribution from a discrete one.
Recently industrial robots are often used together with positioners to enhance the system performance for arc welding. In this paper, the redundancy control method is proposed for the robot-positioner system which is modeled as one kinematic model of 7 degrees of freedom. Also, the manipulability measure based on the Jocobian matrix is utilized to visualize the distribution of manipulability in a given section of the working space. An algorithm for the manipulability maximazation in a given task is developed and applied to the robot and positioner system. The simulation results are given in the case of straight line following.
The vast mechanical systems could be classified as closed loop system, open loop system and open & closed (switching) system. In the closed loop system, the kinematics and dynamics of 3-D mechanisms will be reviewed and closed form solutions using the direction cosine matrix method and reflection transformation method will be introduced. In the open loop system, kinematic & dynamic analysis methods regarding the redundant system which has more degrees of freedom in joint space than those of task space are reviewed and discussed. Finally, switching system which changes its phase between closed and open loop motion is investigated with the principle of dynamical balance. Among switching systems, the human gait in biomechanics and humanoid in robotics are presented.
An analysis of the non-homogeneous term involved in the free surface condition for second order wave diffraction on a pair of cylinders is presented. In the computations of the nonlinear loads on offshore structures, the most challenging task is the computation of the free surface integral. The main contribution to this integrand is due to the non-homogeneous term present in the free surface condition for second order scattered potential. In this paper, the free surface condition for the second order scattered potential is derived. Under the assumption of large spacing between the two cylinders, waves scattered by one cylinder may be replaced in the vicinity of the other cylinder by equivalent plane waves together with non-planner correction terms. Then solving a complex matrix equation, the first order scattered potential is derived and since the free surface term for second order scattered potential can be expressed in terms of the first order potentials, the free surface term can be obtained using the knowledge of first order potentials only.
In most cases of multidimensional scaling(MDS), the distances or dissimilarities among units are assumed to be symmetric. Thus, it is not an easy task to deal with asymmetric distances. Asymmetric MDS developed so far face difficulties in the interpretation of results. This study proposes a much simpler asymmetric MDS, that utilizes the notion of "altitude". The analogy arises in mountaineering: It is easier (more difficult) to move from the higher (lower) point to the lower (higher). The idea is formulated as a quantification problem, in which the disparity of distances is maximally related to the altitude difference. The proposed method is demonstrated in three examples, in which the altitudes are visualized by rainbow colors to ease the interpretability of users.

A brain-computer interface(BCI) system is a communication channel which transforms a subject's thought process into command signals to control various devices. These systems use electroencephalographic signals or the neuronal activity of many single neurons. The presented study deals with an efficient analysis method of neuronal signals from a BCI System using an independent component analysis(ICA) algorithm. The BCI system was implemented to generate event signals coding movement information of the subject. To apply the ICA algorithm, we obtained the perievent histograms of neuronal signals recorded from prefrontal cortex(PFC) region during target-to-goal(TG) task trials in the BCI system. The neuronal signals were then smoothed over 5ms intervals by low-pass filtering. The matrix of smoothed signals was then rearranged such that each signal was represented as a column and each bin as a row. Each column was also normalized to have a unit variance. As a result, we verified that different patterns of the neuronal signals are dependent on the target position and predefined event signals.
