  • This study aims to examine the level of fear and the influential factors affecting their dental fear and to utilize the result as the basic materials in the dental management. The subjects were the students from a middle school located in Cheongju-City. The school was selected by convenient sampling and self-answered questionnaire was filled in by the students for a week from December 19th 2011. The survey result showed that 77 male students and 169 female students(total 246 students) answered 'yes' to the question 'Have you ever felt fear when you visited a dentist?' among 475 students who had visited a dentist in the past. The distribution of responses in each category of fear was examined by frequency analysis. The study results showed significant difference in the item of 'causing irritation during the dental treatments' between male students and female students (p<0.05). Converting the level of fear into scores after marking the answers, the score of male students was 52.0 points and the score of female students was 58.53 showing the score of female students was significantly higher in statistics. Moreover, the fear score of female students for the category 'causing irritation during the dental treatments' was also significantly higher in statistics(p<0.05). Therefore, these results should be reflected to the dental care environments in order for the adolescent to reduce the dental anxiety and fear.

  • Purpose: This study used a nonequivalent control group pre-post test design to analyze how a death preparation education program helps middle-aged adults deal with life and death anxiety. Methods: We studied 83 adults at the age of 40 to 65 years. An experimental group of 38 people participated in the death preparation education, and a control group of 45 people did not. The death preparation program comprising four sections was given for four hours per week, and the program ran for 11 weeks. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ${\chi}^2$ test, Fisher's exact test, and ANCOVA using SPSS version 17.0. Results: The death anxiety score of the experimental group was significantly lower than that of the control group (P<0.000). The quality of life did not show significant difference between the experimental and control groups (P=0.188). Conclusion: It was confirmed that the death preparation education program is effective in alleviating death anxiety. Although the program was confirmed as a necessity for the middle-aged adults, repeated observations with a wider range of experimental group is needed to collect objective and solid data. Death preparation education for middle-aged adults is expected to be more widely provided, starting from local health facilities.

  • Objectives: This paper examines how serious the appearance concerns of adolescents is in South Korean society by delving into the formation and changes of adolescents' appearance concerns. Methods: We conducted a secondary analysis of the data of multi-year tracing surveys which the National Youth Policy Institute opened to the public. The repeated Measures ANOVA, the paired t-test, and a chi-squared test were applied against the data. Results: It was found that about one out of ten adolescents experienced concerns that began as early as the upper grades of elementary school, reached its peak in middle school, and decreased afterwards. On the other hand, some of them faced enduring appearance concerns and seemed to suffer from it. One interesting finding is that adolescents once relieved from the concerns were free from it permanently. We also found that there were considerable differences between male and female adolescents in terms of the level of concerns they experienced, their peak periods, and other characteristics. Conclusions: Appearance concerns changes dynamically according to development of adolescence. Appearance concerns was less prevalent among adolescents than predicted, and it seemed considerably fluid. Our study not only confirms but also challenges some important findings of previous studies.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of a web-based senescence preparation program for the provision of information and education on aging. A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used. The subjects were 70 middle-aged adults (experimental group: 36, control group: 34) living in Daegu city. The experimental group participated in a web-based senescence preparation program for 10 weeks, where 10 subjects were covered (5 physical, 3 mental/psychological, and 2 social/environmental). As compared to the control group, the knowledge of the experimental group increased significantly, and there was a significant change in their attitudes toward the elderly and old age plans. These results suggest that a web-based senescence preparation program can predict people's old age and help in their preparation. Further, this program is expected to offer individualized learning opportunities to many learners in various settings.

  • This study examines the supervision competence of supervisor from the comparative perspective of supervisor and supervisee, and investigates the effects of organizational factors on supervisor's supervision competence. For this purpose, data collected from 241 workers at social welfare agencies in Gyeonggi-do were analyzed through t-test and hierarchical regression analysis. The major results of data analysis are as follows. First, supervisors are more positive than supervisees in terms of supervision competence. Second, there is a statistically significant difference between two groups in supervision knowledge and qualities among the subfields of supervision competence. Third, in the case of supervisors, the younger the age and the higher the education level, the more positively they perceive their supervision competence, and agency's supervision support explains supervision competence at the level of △R2 = .305 at p> .001. Finally, based on the results of this study, the directions for strengthening the supervision competence were suggested.

  • This study was executed to be used as the basic data for the improvement of Korean Chinese undergraduates' English proficiency. Descriptive statistics and t-tests were used for data analysis on the differences between Korean Chinese and Han Chinese students' preparedness and learning outcomes of 203 undergraduates at a four-year college in China. Results showed that Korean Chinese students were significantly less prepared and had weaker learning outcomes than Han Chinese students. Analysis on the factors that affected learning outcomes showed significant differences in oral English skills, attitudes toward curriculum, beliefs in their own fluency, and learning strategies. On the other hand, no group difference was shown in learning interests. Based on these findings, implications for the improvement of Korean Chinese undergraduates' preparedness and learning outcomes in EFL class were described.

  • This study aims to explore the effects of deductive FFI and inductive FFI in L2 learners' grammatical achievement and their reaction to the grammar instruction. 84 students were placed into three groups: 29 given deductive FFI(DG), 28 receiving inductive FFI(IG), and 27 with traditional instruction(CG). All students completed pre/post tests and questionnaires, and took a delayed post test 9 weeks after the treatment. For statistical anlayses of all the quantitative data, a one-way ANOVA, paired samples T-test, and repeated measures ANOVA were performed. The results indicated that both deductive and inductive FFI affected learners' grammatical achievement and their achievement was sustained over time. Deductive FFI was more effective than inductive FFI, whereas the IG students more positively changed their attitudes and perceptions to the grammar instruction. These findings of the study imply that FFI should be valued in an Korean EFL classroom, which would contribute to further longitudinal research for its sustainability.
