  • The aim of the study was the application of Radix Aconiti(附子) in the treatment of heart-systemic disease(心系疾患). We inquired into the prescriptions with Radix Aconiti (附子) in the treatment of heart-systemic disease(心系疾患) in many other aspects through 'Sanghanron'(傷寒論). The results were obtained as follows; The prescriptions with Radix Aconiti(附子) form about 18%, it's related text forms about 11%. Radix Aconiti(附子) was used with other 20 kinds of herbs in 7 categories-hyepyo(解表), jesp(除濕), selyul(泄熱), hwagihyengsu(化氣行水), onjungsanhan(溫中散寒), ikum(益陰), anhejitong(安蛔止痛). Among these herbs, the combination with Zingiver officinale Roscoe(乾薑) is focal usage, because the combination was used in 8 prescriptions out of 20. A fresh Radix Aconiti(附子) which was used with Zingiver officinale Roscoe(乾薑) is efficacious against poison of Radix Aconiti(附子). When this combination was used, it had been boiled for a long time in most cases, it is also helpful of counteracting poison. A Steamed Radix Aconiti(附子) was used with Zingiver officinale Roscoe (生薑). In the special feature of dosage of Radix Aconiti(附子), it was considerately used in many different conditions which includes strength or weakness of patients, and the critical or slight condition of illness. In the taking frequency and dosage of the medicine, it was applied the same. There are 2 methods of boiling, one is boiling separately from other herbs and the other is boiling all together. When boiling seperately, it works more quikly and strongly. In the case of severe 'rehan'(裏寒) which refuses warmed medicine, it was used with 2 other herbs(猪膽汁, 人尿) that take down from yang(陽) to ying(陰). The foci of prescriptions that contain Radix Aconiti(附子) is the type of Sayektang(四逆湯類), because Gungangbujatang(乾薑附子湯) does the important work in the prescriptions. The paradigm of Radix Aconiti(附子) treated palpitation, edema, diziness, confusion, numbness, iced limbs in the treatment of heart-systemic disease(心系疾患). In the usage of Radix Aconiti(附子), the above results need to be referred and further clinical studies will be necessary.

  • Time-concentration curves of recombinant human interferon alpha$(rIFN-{\alpha}A)$ in the skin and serum of nude mice or rats were studied after topical application of IFN ointment. IFN appeared in the skin and serum in less than 30 minutes and lasted for more than 10-12 hours at high concentration level after the application to nude mice at a dose of $9.0{\times}10^5\;IU/g$ mouse. But in the rats, IFN was not detected in the serum even 7 hours after the application at a dose of $6.0{\times}10^5\;IU/g$ rat. Topical application of IFN might be useful for the topical and systemic treatment if the human skin resembles that of nude mouse in respect to transport characteristics.

  • Application of vaccine materials through oral mucosal route confers great economical advantage in animal farming industry due to much less vaccination cost compared with that of injection-based vaccination. In particular, oral administration of recombinant protein antigen against foot-and- mouth disease virus (FMDV) is an ideal strategy because it is safe from FMDV transmission during vaccine production and can induce antigen-specific immune response in mucosal compartments, where FMDV infection has been initiated, which is hardly achievable through parenteral immunization. Given that effective delivery of vaccine materials into immune inductive sites is prerequisite for effective oral mucosal vaccination, M cell-targeting strategy is crucial in successful vaccination since M cells are main gateway for luminal antigen influx into mucosal lymphoid tissue. Here, we applied previously identified M cell-targeting ligand Co1 to VP1 of FMDV in order to test the possible oral mucosal vaccination against FMDV infection. M cell-targeting ligand Co1-conjugated VP1 interacted efficiently with M cells of Peyer's patch. In addition, oral administration of ligand-conjugated VP1 enhanced the induction of VP1-specific IgG and IgA responses in systemic and mucosal compartments, respectively, in comparison with those from oral administration of VP1 alone. In addition, the enhanced VP1-specific immune response was found to be due to antigen-specific Th2-type cytokine production. Collectively, it is suggested that the M cell-targeting strategy could be applied to develop efficient oral mucosal vaccine against FMDV infection.

  • There has been a significant decline in the number of rail accidents in Korea since system safety management activities were introduced. Nonetheless, analyzing and preventing human error-related accidents is still an important issue in railway industry. As a railway system is increasingly automated and intelligent, the mechanism and process of an accident occurrence are more and more complicated. It is now essential to consider a variety of factors and their intricate interactions in the analysis of rail accidents. However, it has proved that traditional accident models and methods based on a linear cause-effect relationship are inadequate to analyze and to assess accidents in complex systems such as railway systems. In order to supplement the limitations of traditional safety methods, recently some systemic safety models and methods have been developed. Of those, FRAM(Functional Resonance Analysis Method) has been recognized as one of the most useful methods for analyzing accidents in complex systems. It reflects the concepts of performance adjustment and performance variability in a system, which are fundamental to understanding the processes of an accident in complex systems. This study aims to apply FRAM to the analysis of a rail accident involving human errors, which occurred recently in South Korea. Through the application of FRAM, we found that it can be a useful alternative to traditional methods in the analysis and assessment of accidents in complex systems. In addition, it was also found that FRAM can help analysts understand the interactions between functional elements of a system in a systematic manner.

  • We previously demonstrated that root colonization of the rhizobacterium, Pseudomonas chlororaphis O6, induced expression of a galactinol synthase gene (CsGolS1), and resulting galactinol conferred induced systemic resistance (ISR) against fungal and bacterial pathogens in cucumber leaves. To examine the role of galactinol on ISR, drought or high salt stress, we obtained T-DNA insertion Arabidopsis mutants at the AtGolS1 gene, an ortholog of the CsGolS1 gene. The T-DNA insertion mutant compromised resistance induced by the O6 colonization against Erwinia carotovora. Pharmaceutical application of 0.5 - 5 mM galactinol on roots was sufficient to elicit ISR in wild-type Arabidopsis against infection with E. carotovora. The involvement of jasmonic acid (JA) signaling on the ISR was validated to detect increased expression of the indicator gene PDF1.2. The T-DNA insertion mutant also compromised tolerance by increasing galactinol content in the O6-colonized plant against drought or high salt stresses. Taken together, our results indicate that primed expression of the galactinol synthase gene AtGolS1in the O6-colonized plants can play a critical role in the ISR against infection with E. carotovora, and in the tolerance to drought or high salt stresses.

  • This research This research aims at developing systemic evaluation model in terms of biotope preservation through reports, literatures, and expert survey analysis by implementing biotope structure analysis in area level with selecting Hyunpoong and Yuga-myeon, Dalseong county, Daegu metropolitan city as a site. First of all, as a result of biotope type classification of research site, biotope type groups are classified into total 13, and its biotope types are divided into total 61. Also, as a result of literature analysis, total 18 items are drawn such as diversity of biotope typical species as a index item to assess the preservation value of biotope, and the first evaluation index are divided into 10 and the second ones are divided into 8 according to characteristic of index items. As a result of expert survey analysis, All 10 index items, first evaluation index, show high importance average (above 4.7). As a result of implementation of main cause for categorizing evaluation index by characteristic, there are 3 factors such as 'obstructive factor.' Based on above survey analysis result, as a result of estimating the weight of each item, 'restoration factor' showed the highest, 3.4541, but 'factor of habitat stability' showed 3.1468, which is the lowest The systemic value evaluation was set by comprehensively analyzing these results. As a result of biotope preservation value evaluation through applying research site, total 19 types which are abundant in vegetation are classified into I class, 12 types in II class, 5 types in III class, 10 types in IV class, and 15 types in V class respectively. Lastly, as a result of second evaluation, it is analyzed that there are 17 special meaningful space to preserve species and biotope(1a, 1b) and 61 meaningful space to preserve species (2a, 2b, 2c).
