The Approximate MLE in a Skew-Symmetric Laplace Distribution

  • We define a skew-symmetric Laplace distribution by a symmetric Laplace distribution and evaluate its coefficient of skewness. And we derive an approximate maximum likelihood estimator(AME) and a moment estimator(MME) of a skewed parameter in a skew-symmetric Laplace distribution, and hence compare simulated mean squared errors of those estimators. We compare asymptotic mean squared errors of two defined estimators of reliability in two independent skew-symmetric distributions.

  • We define a skew-symmetric double Rayleigh distribution by a symmetric double Rayleigh distribution, and derive an approximate maximum likelihood estimator(AML) and a moment estimator(MME) of a skewed parameter in a skew-symmetric double Rayleigh distribution, and hence compare simulated mean squared errors of those two estimators.   • Particle displacement distributions of the fundamental mode and overtone modes in an energy-frapped single resonator and an energy-trapped double acoustically coupled filter using the thickness shear vibration were calculated. And the effects of the width of a pair of partial electrodes, the width of the gap between two pairs of partial electrodes and the magnitude of the plate back on the displacement distributions of the symmetric vibration mode and anti-symmetric vibration mode of the resonators and the filters were investigated.

Adaptive M-estimation in Regression Model

  • In this paper we introduce some adaptive M-estimators using selector statistics to estimate the slope of regression model under the symmetric and continuous underlying error distributions. This selector statistics is based on the residuals after the preliminary fit L$_1$ (least absolute estimator) and the idea of Hogg(1983) and Hogg et. al. (1988) who used averages of some order statistics to discriminate underlying symmetric distributions in the location model. If we use L$_1$ as a preliminary fit to get residuals, we find the asymptotic distribution of sample quantiles of residual are slightly different from that of sample quantiles in the location model. If we use the functions of sample quantiles of residuals as selector statistics, we find the suitable quantile points of residual based on maximizing the asymptotic distance index to discriminate distributions under consideration. In Monte Carlo study, this adaptive M-estimation method using selector statistics works pretty good in wide range of underlying error distributions.

  • We consider estimation of the right-tail probability in a half-triangle distribution, and also consider inference on reliability, and derive the k-th moment of ratio of two independent half-triangle distributions with different supports. As we define a skew-symmetric random variable from a symmetric triangle distribution about origin, we derive its k-th moment.

Combination resonance analysis of FG porous cylindrical shell under two-term excitation

  • This paper presents the combination resonances of FG porous (FGP) cylindrical shell under two-term excitation. The effect of structural damping on the system response is also considered. With regard to classical plate theory of shells, von-$K{\acute{a}}rm{\acute{a}}n$ equation and Hook law, the relations of stress-strain is derived for shell. According to the Galerkin method, the discretized motion equation is obtained. The combination resonances are obtained by using the method of multiple scales. Four types of FGP distributions consist of uniform porosity, non-symmetric porosity soft, non-symmetric porosity stiff and symmetric porosity distribution are considered. The influence of various porosity distributions, porosity coefficients of cylindrical shell and amplitude excitations on the combination resonances for FGP cylindrical shells is investigated.

  • In this paper, we develop the Jeffreys' prior, reference priors and the probability matching priors for the intraclass correlation coefficient of a symmetric normal distribution. We next verify propriety of posterior distributions under those noninformative priors. We examine whether reference priors satisfy the probability matching criterion.

  • One proposal is made for constructing nonparametric estimator of slope parameters in a regression model under symmetric error distributions. This estimator is based on the use of idea of Johns for estimating the center of the symmetric distribution together with the idea of regression quantiles and regression trimmed mean. This nonparametric estimator and some other L-estimators are studied by Monte Carlo.

  • In this paper, we construct two types of non-tangential half lightlike submanifolds of a semi-Riemannian manifold admitting a semi-symmetric non-metric connection. Our main result is to prove several characterization theorems for each types of such half lightlike submanifolds equipped with totally geodesic screen distributions.
