  • With the rapid advancement of the fourth industrial revolution, universities need to nurture talents that can lead and respond to the future society based on the demands of higher education and job changes. A huge change from lecture-centered learning to student-centered learning forces university facilities to be renovated depending on the diversity of teaching-learning methods. This research proposes design principles and government policies on renovation of the university facilities in Korea. Literature review found educational factors (i.e., individuality, diversity, convergence, community, and publicness) and architectural factors in higher education. A case study on floor plans of the universities in Korea showed that the facilities are not suitable for student-centered learning in terms of educational and architectural factors. This finding was confirmed in a field survey.

  • The remodeling of long-tern public rental housing (LPRH) have been acknowledged followed by the introduction of th Act of the Life Quality Improvement of the Residents in Long-tern Public Housing. Likewise, the feasible direction of LPRH remodeling should be discussed in order to improve the quality of life of the dwellers and housing facilities. Therefore a purpose of this study is to suggest the remodeling types for increasing their quality of life with regard to sustainability of remodeling. To do so this study employs various cases of public housing remodeling from the UK, France and USA and performed quantitative research that was subject to the residents in 9 LPRH in Seoul and Gyeong-gi. The findings of the analysis demonstrate that comprehensive and sustainable remodeling considering both physical and social environment factors are needed, and that the residents have needs of improvement of deteriorated facilities and negative perception of the public on LPRH. With regard to this, seven types of the LPRH remodeling types are drawn on the combination between physical and social environment factors. Thus it is expected that the types will ultimately be able to increase of the quality of the life of the residents and guarantee sustainable remodeling.

  • Sustainable development is recognized as the direction humanity should pursue, and transportation policies also aim to achieve sustainability by efficiently utilizing limited resources. Among them, parking policy is an important task that requires strategic implementation for sustainable transportation development in many cities. Shared parking is actively being considered for the efficient utilization of existing transportation facilities. In this study, we analyzed major influencing factors using a structural equation model to promote shared parking and derived policy implications accordingly. The most influential latent variable on shared parking preference was donation experience, followed by satisfaction with public transportation and satisfaction with existing sharing policies. The preference for shared parking was found to have a virtuous cycle effect on social value as it influenced the spread of shared value. In the end, the implementation of the parking sharing policy will improve the visible traffic environment. However, it is evident that the impact of promoting invisible shared values is more significant. In other words, the main implication of this study is that to implement the parking sharing policy effectively, more emphasis should be placed on recognizing the shared value and promoting the awareness of sustainable development.

  • Purpose: In Korea, win-win growth policy has been successfully implemented in supply chain and logistics management. In the policy, it is recommended to support supply chain partners with various mechanisms including financial and technical aids. This study attempts to scientifically analyze the effects of direct and indirect win-win growth policy factors on supply chain and logistics management performance through partnership factors. Research design, data and methodology: This study builds a structural equation model reflecting the relationship between the win-win growth policy, partnership and performance factors. The proposed model is verified with the PLS (Partial Least Squares regression) methodology. Data from shipper and logistics companies were collected and analyzed by the PLS model. Results: The analysis showed that both direct and indirect policy factors are meaningful to improve supply chain and logistics performance. Indirect support factors including R&D, management innovation, human resources development and educational supports have positive impacts on partnership factors. Direct support factors including financial aids and fairness also have positive impacts on the performance. Conclusions: This study is meaningful in that it suggests a turning point in which supply chain Win-win growth and partnership efforts are perceived as new value-creating mechanism rather than unilateral cost reduction for logistics industry.

  • Developing countries are in competition to attract ODA and FDI in an effort to overcome poverty and development. This study tries to identify factors influencing the distribution of ODA and FDI resources and analyzes if ODA and FDI are in complementary relationship. We use a panel data for 53 African countries during early and middle of 2000 period. Factors affecting the ODA distribution include per capita GDP, physical infrastructure, good institutions of receiving countries. FDI was found to be positively affected by market size, trade openness, human capital accumulation, business-friendly regulatory environment. The impact of ODA is believed to be more effective and sustainable if it has a complementary relationship with FDI. Our result, however, did not confirmed the complementarity relation between the two.
