  • Non-contact transportation of a large-sized glass plate using air cushion for the vertical sputtering system of liquid crystal display (LCD) panel was considered. The objective of the study was to design an air pad unit which was composed of multiple injection and exhaust holes and mass flow supplying pipe. The gas was injected through multiple small holes to maintain the force for levitating glass plate. After hitting the plate, the air was vented through exhaust holes. Complex flow field and resulting pressure distribution on the glass surface were numerically studied to design the air injection pad. The exhaust hole size was varied to obtain evenly distributed pressure distribution at fixed diameter of the injection hole. Considering the force for levitating glass plate, the diameter of the exhaust hole of 30 to 40 times of the gas injection hole was recommended.

  • Polyimide thin film was prepared by annealing the polyamic acid that was synthesized through co-deposition of diamine and dianhydride. The polyamic acid and polyimide thin film were characterized with FT-IR and HR FE-SEM. The average roughness of the film surface, evaluated with AFM, were 0.385 nm and 0.299 nm after co-deposition, and annealing at 120 ℃ respectively. OLED was passivated with the polyimide layer of 200 nm thickness. While the inorganic passivation layer enhances the WVTR of OLED, the organic passivation layer gives flexibility to the OLED. The in-situ passivation of OLED with organic thin film layer provides the leading technique to develop flexible OLED Display.

  • This paper proposes a new automatic detection method to inspect mura defects on display film surface using morphological image processing and labeling. This automatic detection method for mura defects on display films comprises 3 phases of preprocessing with morphological image processing, Gabor filtering, and labeling. Since distorted results could be obtained with the presence of non-uniform illumination, preprocessing step reduces illumination components using morphological image processing. In Gabor filtering, mura images are created with binary coded mura components using Gabor filters. Subsequently, labeling is a final phase of finding the mura defect area using the difference between large mura defects and values in the periphery. To evaluate the accuracy of the proposed detection method, detection rate was assessed by applying the method in 200 display film samples. As a result, the detection rate was high at about 95.5%. Moreover, the study was able to acquire reliable results using the Semu index for luminance mura in image quality inspection.

  • In this paper, we described the unique and novel method to prepare two kinds of electro-active particles, black and white particles with different polarity. The surface of the particles was characterized to be uniform and clean by adopting spray dryer as a tool for genesis of particles; neither surfactants nor high dielectric medium like water was employed during particle preparation step. The other purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that contribute high driving voltage of particlebased display like QR-LPD. We extracted parameters interaction between particle and electrode, and between oppositely charged particles. Here we reported an excellent behavior of particle-based display that showed low operating voltage, high contrast ratio as high as 8:1 without scarification of quick response time. By optimizing the particle size, charge per mass, selection of external additive sets, a lower driving voltage as low as 40V for the particles with $10{\mu}m$ volume average diameter was obtained.

  • We have developed the transparent passivation layer for transparent organic light-emitting devices (TOLEDs) using CsCl layer. The CsCl passivation layer improves the optical transmittance of Ca/Ag double layer which have used as a semitransparent cathode, resulting in substantial increase of the luminance by the enhanced light extraction out of the cathode surface of the TOLEDs.

  • A projection-based active information display system was proposed. The proposed system is based on Intelligent Space and a steerable projector mounted mobile robot which is called Ubiquitous Display (UD). In order to transfer visual information for a human in the Intelligent Space, the UD projects a certain shape of an image with a fixed size. Due to redundancy of degree of freedom (DOF), there are lots of situations to project a same shape and size of the image on a surface. In this paper, we describe a method to determine a goal posture of the UD. Here, the goal posture is the most efficient position and orientation of the UD so as to project visual information and it is determined by the Intelligent Space. To verify the proposed method, simulation and demonstration are carried out.

  • ADS-B(Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) has been recognized as a key component of Surveillance and ATM in CNS/ATM System. In addition to providing surveillance for air traffic control(ATC), ADS-B also supports airborne applications such as enhanced traffic situational awareness through the display of other aircraft to pilots and flight crew. It provides the real-time and same air traffic information to pilots in the aircraft cockpit, air traffic controllers in tower and surface vehicles on the ground at the same time. Aircraft Cockpit Display Unit will display the given information precisely and accurately. This paper describes progress in the development of a Cockpit Display with ADS-B data that enable pilots to acquire, verify and maintain pre-defined spacing intervals from other aircraft for general aviation and small regional aircraft. The designed display provides analogous information in the form of traffic position, range, and ground speed, etc.

  • In this paper, tactile response characteristics in medical haptic interface are investigated to characterize the feeling of contact between the finger skin and the organic tissue when a finger is dragged over tissue. In order to represent the tactile feeling, a prototype tactile display incorporating Magneto-Rheological (MR) fluid has been developed. Tactile display devices simulate the finger's skin to feel the sensations of contact such as compliance, curvature and friction. Thus, the tactile display provides the surface information of organic tissue to the surgeon using different actuating mechanisms ranging from the conventional mechanical motor to the smart material actuators. In order to investigate the compliance feeling of human finger's touch, vertical force responses of the tactile display under the various magnetic fields have been assessed. Also, frictional resistive force responses of the tactile display are investigated to simulate the action of finger's dragging. From the results, different tactile feelings are observed as the applied magnetic field is varied and arrayed magnetic poles combinations. This research gives a smart technology of tactile displaying.

  • Transparent color coating films were fabricated on a glass substrate by using sol-gel hybrid binder and organic dye. Sol-gel hybrid binder coating film fabricated with PTMS of 0.03 mole showed a very high pencil hardness of 9 H. As the withdrawal speed increased from 1.0 mm/s to 5.0 mm/sec, The yellowness ($b^*$) of coating glass also gradually increased. The transmittance of yellow color coating glass was 82.6% and the haze of coating glass was 0.35%. Red and blue color coating glasses also showed the high transmittance of 62.4% and 80.6% respectively. The surface hardness of color coating films was 6 H.

  • The a-InGaZnO (a-IGZO) thin film transistor (TFT) has the advantages of larger mobility than that of amorphous silicon TFTs, acceptable reliability and uniformity over a large area, and low process cost. A capacitive-type touch sensor was studied with an a-IGZO TFT that can be used on the front side of a display due to its transparency. A capacitive sensor detects changes of capacitance between the surface of the finger and the sensor electrode. The capacitance varies according to the distance between the sensor plate and the touching or non-touching of the sensing electrode. A capacitive touch sensor using only one a-IGZO TFT was developed with the reduction of two bus lines, which made it easy to reduce the pixel pitch. The proposed sensor circuit maintained the amplification performance, which was investigated for various drive conditions.
