CHARACTERISTICS OF RESIDUAL CARBON DERIVED FROM THE COMBUSTION OF VACUUM RESIDUE IN A TEST FURNACE

  • The characteristics of carbonaceous particles collected from the combustion of Vacuum Residue (VR) in a test furnace have been investigated. The physical and chemical characterization includes particle size, scanning electron microscopy of the surface structure, measurement of porosity, surface area and density, EDX/XRD analyses and measurement of chemical composition. The studies show that the carbonaceous VR particles are very porous and spheroidal, and have many blow-holes on the surface. The particles become smaller and more sponge-like as the reaction proceeds. The present porosity of VR particles is similar to that of cenospheres from the combustion of heavy oil, and the majority of pores are distributed in macro-pores above $0.03\;{\mu}m$ in diameter. Measurements of pore distribution and surface area showed that the macro-pores contributed most to total pore volume, whereas the micro-pores contributed to total surface area.

초경합금의 플라즈마 질화처리에 의한 표면물성 변화 (Change of Surface Characterisstics of Cemented Carbide by Nitriding)

  • WC-C0 base cemented carbides were plasma nitrided to obtain more hadened surface layer. The surface hardness of Hv1338 which is higher than a non-treated ane by 30%, and the hardened layer thickness of about 50$\mu\textrm{m}$ were obtained by the treatment of 3hrs under the conditions of $550^{\circ}C$, and 5torr of gas pressure of which composition was 1:1 of $N_2:H_2$. The nitrided surfaces has WIN and W2N phases in the non-coated samples and AIN phase in the alumina coated sampled as the results of X-ray results, and showed surface roughnness of 5$\mu\textrm{m}$ which were caused by the sputtering action of the plasma gasee. The hardenened layer exihibits an enhanced wear resistance the cuttability test.

Pb-Free 도금용액 및 피막의 신뢰성평가 (A Reliability Test for Pb-Free Plating Solution and its Deposit)

  • This study found a reliable evaluation for four kinds of pb-Free plating solutions and it's layers, through pure Sn, SnAg, SnBi and SnCu. These four kind of solutions are widely used to pb-Free plating. Hull-cell, Harring-blum, coverage, throwing power, current efficiency, stability, life-time, composition, hardness, roughness, abrasion, scratch, solderability, corrosion, contact angle, morphology, SIR(Surface insulation resistance) and Whisker test were experimented. Also, Using ICP, XRF, FE-SEM, EDS, temperature/humidity chamber, solderability tester, hardness tester, roughness tester, abrasion tester, salt spray tester, contact angle tester, SIR tester, and microscope. In this paper could be shown the systematic and various analysis for reliability about four kinds of pb-Free plating solutions, processes and it's deposit surface.

Wettability control in C-SiOx film formed by plasma polymerization of HMDSO/$O_2$ mixture

  • Wetting phenomena have been heavily studied for industrial and academic researches especially tuning the wettability between hydrophilicity and hydrophobicity. Wicking through the surface texture is shown on superhydrophilic surface while rolling (or dewetting) on the patterns of superhydrophobic surface. These wetting phenomena are known to be affected by surface wettability determined with physical surface patterns as well as chemical composition of surface layer. In this research, we introduce a method to control the wettability of a thin C-SiOx film from hydrophobic to hydrophilic using a mixture gas of HMDSO/$O_2$ by plasma polymerization with rf-CVD (radio frequency-Chemical Vapor Deposition). Wettability was finely controlled by changing the ratio of HMDSO/$O_2$. Hydrophilicity increased as the ratio decreased, while hydrophobicity was enhanced by the ratio. Moreover, fine control from superhydrophilicity to superhydrophobicity was achieved by C-SiOx coating on the Si wafer with prepatterns of submicron-sized pillar array formed by $CF_4$ plasma etching.

  • The corrosion protection behavior of AZ31 magnesium alloy (Mg alloy) with cathodic electrophoretic coating (E-coating) pretreated by cerium-based conversion coatings at various pH was investigated in this study. Cerium-based conversion coatings (CeCCs) were deposited on AZ31 Mg alloy by immersion treatment in the nitrate-based cerium salt solution. The morphology and composition of the CeCCs were analyzed using scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. The corrosion properties of the AZ31 Mg alloy pretreated with cerium coating and subsequently E-coated were studied during salt-spray testing. The surface morphologies of the E-coated Mg alloy were examined in detail after different testing times using digital photography. It was found that the protective properties of the E-coating on AZ31 Mg alloy generated are heavily dependent upon the CeCC factors such as treatment time, coating thickness and pH of the solution.

Synthesis and Surface Structure of Polyester-block-Poly(dimethylsiloxane)-block-Polyester Copolymers

  • Triblock copolymers of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) middle block and degradable polyester end blocks were synthesized by the ring open polymerization initialed by alcohol groups of PDMS. Surface composition of the triblock copolymers is measured by angle-dependent electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis. The PDMS blocks are segregated in the topmost surface region and constituted up to 90 mol% of the surface, even though the overall bulk PDMS concentrations of the block copolymers is 6% or less. This result suggests that the bulk property of degradable polyesters is essentially unchanged due to the high surface segregation of PDMS.

  • For the purpose of surveying any possibility of anchoring titanium dioxide on activated carbons to promote their activities as catalysts and/or adsorbents, two activated carbons were oxidized with ammonium peroxydisulfate and followed by anchoring titanium dioxide. The anchoring of titanium dioxide on the oxidized activated carbons were performed via the adsorption of tetrabutyltitanate, hydrolysis with deionized water, and calcination. The effect of oxidizing and anchoring treatment on the surface element composition, surface area, and pore texture were analyzed by XPS, BET and TPD. The oxidation of activated carbons with ammonium peroxydisulfate introduced carboxyl groups on the surface of activated carbons and these carboxyl groups promoted the anchoring of titanium oxide on the activated carbons. However, the treatments affected the surface area and the porosity of activated carbons.

강판의 산화막 거동 및 인산염처리성의 평가 (Behavior of Surface Oxide on the Cold Rolled Steel Sheet and its Phosphatability)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate behavior of surface oxide on the cold rolled sheet used for the drum material and its phosphatability. Phosphatability is dependent of the characteristics of surface oxide on the cold-rolled sheet and can be estimated by using the electrochemical method and measuring $\tau$ value which is the time to be exposed to substrate Fe. $\tau$ value is varied with the steel composition, width direction of the sheet and SPM length. The good phosphatability and uniform surface color can be obtained by increasing SPM elongation and decreasing FCS temperature.

고력황동의 몰리브덴 화염용사에 따른 표면 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Surface Characteristics of High Tensile Brass with Molybdenum Flame Spray Treatment)

  • Molybdenum flame spray coatings are widely used in industrial fields to enhance the performance of mechanical component parts such as pistons, shafts and clutches. This study investigates the surface characteristics of high tensile brass with molybdenum flame spray treatment using the clutch material for small ship. The surface characteristics after molybdenum flame spray treatment in high tensile brass were quantitatively analyzed for surface composition, coating layer thickness, friction coefficient, abrasion width and phenomenon, micro-hardness, and surface roughness.

MoO3가 첨가된 Cr2O3플라즈마 용사코팅의 상온 마찰 마멸 특성 (Friction and Wear Properties of Plasma-sprayed Cr2O3-MoO3Composite Coatings at Room Temperature)

  • 플라즈마 용사코팅법을 이용하여 산화몰리브덴이 첨가된 크로미아 용사코팅층을 제조하여 MoO$_3$첨가에 따른 마찰, 마멸특성을 조사하였다. 상온 마찰, 마멸특성에 대한 실험을 위하여 왕복동 마멸시험장치를 사용하였다. 마멸시험후 마멸면의 물리적 변화와 화학적 조성의 변화를 SEM와 XPS를 통하여 살펴보았다. 산화몰리브덴이 첨가된 코팅층에서 마찰계수의 감소를 관찰할 수 있었다. 그러나 마멸량의 경우 산화몰리브덴이 첨가되지않은 크로미아 코팅층에서 가장 낮은 값을 나타내었다. 산화몰리브덴이 첨가된 코팅의 마멸된 표면에 마탈, 마멸에 유리한 보호막의 형성이 광범위하게 일어남을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 보호막에 산화몰리브덴이 MoO$_3$의 형태로 존재하는 것을 XPS분석을 통하여 알 수 있었다. 보호막에 산화몰리브덴의 존재가 마찰계수를 감소시키는 것으로 생각된다.
