  • Lifting lugs are frequently used in shipyards to transport and turn over the blocks of ships and offshore structures. With the development of shipbuilding technology, blocks have increased in size, and block management technology has assumed a more important role in shipbuilding to enhance the productivity. For the sake of economics, as well as the safe design of a lug structure, a more rational design procedure based on a rigorous structural analysis is needed. This study investigated the strength characteristics of T-type lugs, considering the influence of blocks on which lugs are attached, by varying the in-plane and out-of-plane load direction. In this paper, the ultimate strength is also addressed for cases that include or do not include blocks in the strength analysis. In the present results, when there was a load acting in the normal direction to the block surface, the strength characteristics became poor, and the ultimate strength decreased. This paper ends by describing the need for further study to develop a more rational design for a lug structure.

  • The effects of various forces acting on concrete pole are analyzed using finite element method how the forces affect on ground displacement. The soil types, wind load location of anchor block embedded depth of pole, and distance between poles are varied to find out effects on lateral displacement. Anchor block is effective when it is located at 1/4 of embedded depth The displacement is decreases as elastic modulus increases. Concrete reinforcement for loosened ground is necessary for double poles because double poles cause large excavation. When embedded depth ratio decrease, lateral displacement increase as closer to ground surface. Large embedded depth is effective to reduce lateral displacement, and the distance between poles is not much large factor.

  • Recently, butterfly valves are used as control valves for industrial process. However, there are not so many reports on cryogenic butterfly valves in spite of broad application in LNG storage station and LNG carriers. Present study is focused on the investigation of the detailed hydrodynamic and aerodynamic characteristics of cryogenic butterfly valves to contribute to the operation during the handling on LNG transportation system, and to the practical utilization in design of butterfly valves and actuators. The results show that large recirculation vortices in the region downstream of the valve are founded and the cavitation flows are intensively generated on the surface of valve disc at the relatively small opening angle. The aerodynamic characteristics, lift, drag and torque, acting on the valve disc are calculated. The pressure distribution and the pressure loss coefficient of the cryogenic butterfly valve show almost similar pattern with those of the butterfly valve which is used on the normal temperature.

  • During the cold forming, due to high working pressure acting on the die surface, failure mechanics must be considered before die design. One of the main reasons of die failure in industrial application of metal forming technologies is wear. Die wear affects the tolerances of formed parts, metal flow and costs of process etc. The only way to control these failures is to develop methods which allow prediction of die wear and costs of process etc. The only way to control these failures is to develop methods which allow prediction of die wear and which are suited to be used in the design state in order to optimize the process. In this paper, the wear experiments to abtain the wear coefficients and the upsetting processes was accomplished to observe the wear phenomenon during the cold forming process. The analysis of upsetting processes was accomplished to observe the wear phenomenon during the cold forming process. The analysis of upsetting processes was accomplished by the rigid-plastic finite element method. The result from the deformation analysis was used to analyse the die wear during the processes and the predicted die wear profiles were compared with the measured die wear profiles.

  • Vehicle behavior is determined by forces and a torques generated at the ground contact surface of the tire. Various tire models are used to calculate the forces and torques acting on the tire. The brush model calculates the forces and torques with fewer coefficients than other tire models. However, owing to fewer degrees of freedom in calculating the forces, this model has limitations in precisely expressing measured data. In this study, this problem was addressed by adding the least parameters to the friction coefficient and tire properties of the brush model, and the proposed model was validated.

  • Rudder is to be located in extremely complicated flows generated and disturbed behind a hull and a propeller in operation. In order to estimate the rudder efficiency, it is quite important to investigate the disturbed flows due to the interaction under the hull-propeller and rudder condition. The purpose of the present research is to investigate the interaction between the hull-propeller and a high-lifting horn-type rudder through both numerical computations and experiments. A horn-type rudder implementing the Coanda effect of USB (Upper Surface Blowing) type is selected for its high efficiency of lifting force, and a 1/85 scaled model of 47K PC(Product Carrier) is manufactured for the purpose of the model test. The forces acting on the rudder during the experiment are measured using a three-component force gauge. Both cases are investigated in the hull-propeller-rudder condition and rudder open-water condition, which confirms that the flows generated under the former condition is considerably different from that of the latter condition.

  • Pipe-cutting machines have been used in many fields. Recently, an automatic pipe-cutting machine that uses magnet has born developed. In this paper, a magnetic-type automatic pipe-cutting machine that attaches itself and performs unmanned cutting process is proposed. It is designed that there is a room at the bottom of its body to contain a magnet. And it uses magnetic force between the magnet and the pipe surface to prevent slip and to attach the machine to the pipe against gravity. Also the magnetic force is adjustable by changing the gap between the magnet and the pipe. This machine is, however, necessary to control cutting velocity for the elevation of work efficiency and the adjustable faculties. During pipe cutting process, the gravity acting on the pipe-cutting machine widely varies. That is, the cutting machine gets fast when moving from the top to the bottom of the pipe and slow when moving from the bottom to the top. Actually the system is kind of a non-linear system where the gravity is function of climbing angle of the cutting machine along the pipe. Especially jerking motion is critical. Therefore, authors design the non-linear controller that estimates the current position of the machine along the pipe and compensates the effect of gravity in this paper. It receives the feed back signal from the encoder.

  • During mechanical pulp production and blcaching wood components, such as extractives, carbohydrates and lignin are dissolved and dispersed into the process waters. These components are called dissolved and colloidal substances(DCS). DCS can accumulate during water circulation and can in turn affect paper machine runnability and also the strength and optical properties of the paper. In this work DCS fraction origination from TMP process were treated with enzymes acting on triglycerides. glucomannans, and lignin and the effect of enzymatic treatments on the water composition as well as sheet properies were evaluated. Lipases were found to modify the chemical structure of the extractives resulting in more hydrophilic fibre surface and subsequent improvement in the sheet strength properties. Mannanase treatment, on the other hand, destabilized pitch. As a result, aggregation of pitch to the fibres was observed which in turn resulted in impaired strength properties. Laccase could effectively polymerize lignans and the reaction products seemed to be sorbed onto the fibres.

  • It is indispensable to modern society metal processing since the industrialized rapidly, but it is a metalworking cutting fluid immediately. In addition, this means selecting a emulsion on the basis of quality criteria processing method, the material of the material, cutting depth, cutting speed, Djourou fence Liang, and surface roughness, cutting oil, the shape of the device based on the emulsion, I will be the structure of the tank, filtration equipment also changes. In particular, acting bacteria is now breeding in response to the passage of time due to metal ion degradation due to heat generated hydraulic fluid leakage, humidity tung, during processing, seep from processing material at the time of processing the water-soluble cutting oil for generating the malodor by dropping significantly the performance of the cutting oil to corruption from, sometimes by introducing various additives to suppress spoilage in advance. In this study, we expect the effect of the cost reduction in the extension of fluid replacement cycle through the application of the management apparatus and deep understanding in the management of cutting fluid, the working environment through the understanding and interest of workers in the production site more than anything I try to become useful for the improvement.

  • Some methods are presented to estimate the ultimate lateral resistance of single active piles subjected to lateral loads above the ground surface, considering the lateral soil reaction, the pile length and the fixity condition of a pile head. The lateral soil reaction acting on a single active pile embedded in soil due to pile movement can be estimated by use of a theoretical equation which is derived by considering especially the plastic state of ground surrounding the pile and the pile- section shape. The piles are named short or long depending upon the relative magnitude of the induced bending moment to the yielding moment. As for the fixity condition of a pile head, the free head and the unrotated head are considered. Comparison with other experimental results gives that the calculated ultimate lateral resistance obtained by the author's theory is closer to experimental results than the one obtained by Brom's theory.
