This paper proposes a prediction model of air traffic controller's take-off clearance under mixed mode runway operations. The proposed model has its purpose on the better prediction of the air traffic controller's clearance on take-offs of departure aircraft by considering various factors. For this purpose, support vector machine classification algorithm is used for the proposed model. The proposed model is applied to real air traffic operations to demonstrate its performances.
In the previous study of the release, excretion, and plasma concentration of aldosterone in normal Koreans, the author found that urinary aldosterone excretion and aldosterone secretion rate of the Korean who usually take high amount of salt are significantly lower, in compared to Americans, although the plasma concentration is only tended to be low. The control of plasma aldosterone level depends on the secretion rate and the metabolic clearance of the hormone. In this experiments, the metabolic clearance rate of aldosterone was determined in normotensive korean and the effects of adrenal stimulations on the rates were also studied in the same subjects. The metabolic clearance rate of the normal Korean was not significantly different from those of the American, and shown a little increase in response to sodium restriction. These results indicate that the decrease in secretion rate rather than the increase in metabolic clearance Tate is the major factor maintaining lower plasma aldosterone level. After furosemide diuresis, on the contrary, the removal of aldosterone showed significant the decrease despite slight increase of secretion rate. This suggest that the reduction in metabolic clearance rate of the hormone during volume depletion found to be major cause of high plasma concentration. Additional potassium supply produced detectable decrease of metabolic clearance rate, but the changes were smaller than that of secretion rate, which suggested that the higher secretion rate could account for elevated plasma concentration of aldosterone rather than metabolic clearance. Above results also support author's previous evidences that the normal Korean who already adapted to a high sodium diet have ability to produce adequate aldosterone activity without producing detectable changes on the metabolic clearance rate under the condition of sodium restriction with approp riate potassium intake.
Damping of multi-span tube with loose supports according to the finite support clearances is investigated through the experimental modal analysis. Loose intermediate support leads to strong nonlinearity in tube dynamics, provides statistical nature, and increases tube damping through impacting and friction at the supports. Fraction of critical damping was estimated by the modal curve fitting to parameter estimation from the measured frequency response functions. Magnitude of random excitation force, which can reproduce the in-situ excitation in operating environment, was maintained as constant value with a fine tolerance during vibration testing. Range of input force was carefully selected to cover from the low magnitude excitation for linearly behaved tube motion to high magnitude of force for nonlinearly-behaved tube motion. Estimated critical damping ratio shows scatters in data and tends to increase as the magnitude of rising force and decrease with upward frequency variation. Larger size of support gap increases multi-span tube damping for high magnitude of excitation.
Tubes in heat exchanger of fuel rods in reactor core are supported at intemediate point by support p0lates or springs. Current practice is, in case of heat exchanger, to allow clearance between tube and support plate for design and manufacturing consideration. And in case of fuel rod the clearance in support point can be generated due to the support spring force relaxation. Flow-induced vibration of a tube can cause it to impact or rub against support plate or against adjacent tubes and can result in fretting-wear. The tube-to- support dynamic interaction is used to relate experimental wear data from single-span test rigs to real multi-span heat exchanger configurations. The dynamic interaction cna be measured during experimental wear tests. However, the dynamic interaction is difficult to measure in real heat exchangers and, therefore, analytical techniques are required to estimate this interaction. This paper describels the nonlinear impact model of DAGS(Dynamic Analysis of Gapped Structure) code which simulates the tube response to external sinusodial or step excitation and predicts tube motion and tube-to-support dynamic interaction. Three experimental measurements-two single span rods excited by sinusodial force and a two span rod impacted by a steel ball are compared from the simulation nonlinear model of DAGS code. The simulation results from DAGS code are in good agreement with measurements. Therefore, the developed model of DAGS code is good analytical tool for estimating tube-to-support dynamic interaction in real heat exchangers.
It is possible to prevent a piston from contacting the cylinder by changing the shape of the piston or by applying micro-textures, such as micro-grooves or micro-holes, over the piston surface. Usually, the minimum radial clearance reaches its minimum value at the beginning of the suction stroke because the pressure around the piston is low and almost axisymmetric such that the net pressure force on the piston is not sufficiently high to support the piston from touching the cylinder. In this study, we apply a series of saw-tooth-shaped grooves on the piston surface, and numerically investigate the effects of groove depth, groove angle, and the number of grooves with radial clearance variations using a finite difference method. We conduct a dynamic analysis of the piston for various changes in groove geometries to obtain the minimum radial clearance variation for the entire compression cycle. The minimum radial clearance increases while friction loss decreases when we apply the series of saw-tooth-shaped grooves on the piston. In addition, we analyze the impact of the change in the groove shape variable due to changes in radial clearance. Leakage variations are relevant to radial clearance, but have almost no effect on the groove parameters.
This paper presents the investigation of two types of rotordynamic modeling issues for 2.2 kW-class, rated speed of 1,800 rpm, squirrel-cage type induction motors. These issues include the lamination structure of rotor cores, and the radial clearance of ball bearings that support the shaft of the motor. Firstly, we focus on identifying the effects of rotor core lamination on the rotordynamic analysis via a 2D prediction model. The influence of lamination is considered as the change in the elastic modulus of the rotor core, which is determined by a modification factor ranging from 0 to 1.0. The analysis results show that the unbalanced response of the rotor-bearing system significantly varies depending on the value of the modification factor. Through modal testing of the system, the modification factor of 0.079 is proven to be appropriate to consider the effects of lamination. Next, we investigate the influence of ball bearing clearance on the rotordynamic analysis by establishing a bearing analysis model based on Hertz's contact theory. The analysis results indicate that negative clearance greatly changes the bearing static behavior. Rotordynamic analysis using predicted bearing stiffness with various clearances from -0.005 mm to 0.010 mm reveals that variations in clearance result in a slight difference in the displacement of the system up to 18.18. Thus, considering lamination in rotordynamic analysis is necessary as it can cause serious analysis errors in unbalanced response. However, considering the effect of the bearing clearance is optional because of its relatively weak impact.
Flexure bearings have been used in linear-resonant compressors to maintain a non-contacting clearance seal between the piston and cylinder. There are two types of tangential cantilever bearing and spiral arm bearing with flexure bearings. A newly devised linear flexure bearing (KIMM-Ml) for compression refrigeration machines is disclosed having improved tight gas clearance maintaining capability for better system performance. KIMM-Ml is an integrated device comprising an axially moving diaphragm with circumferentially arranged arc-shaped flexure blades secured between rim and hub spacers, which turn out to have higher radial stiffness than the one with circumferential tangential cantilever flexure blades. It is expected for KIMM-Ml to play a key role in designing long life, special purpose compression refrigeration machines by providing frictionless, non-wearing, linear movement and radial support for the machines as well as a gas clearance seal by maintaining extremely tight clearances between piston and cylinder.
It is considered that most of reusable pipe supports, which are used as formwork support posting at construction sites, do not meet the performance standard. Due to the use of reusable pipe supports that do not meet such performance standard the potential risk of collapse accident is increasing. Therefore, this study identifies the status of compliance with performance standard, and presents the requirements for improving quality control to prevent the collapse of pipe supports reused at the construction site. First, if the female thread of the product with no clearance and new support pin with the diameter of 12mm are replaced at the same time for use, it is considered that the performance will be improved. Second, as the quality performance during use can be improved in the case of larger thickness of inner diameter compared to the case of larger thickness of outer diameter, it is necessary to increase the inner pipe thickness greatly than the current thickness. Based on the results of this study, it is expected that the performance the reusable pipe support (V4) can be improved, if the diameter of the support pin is 12mm, the female thread has a small clearance, and the inner tube thickness is 2.3 ~ 2.7mm. In addition, it is considered that other performance improvement factors included in the study results could be used as important data for improving the performance of reusable pipe support.
