Petrov (1968) gave two theorems on the law of the iterated logarithm without any assumptions about the existence of moments of independent random variables. In the present paper we show that the same holds true for sign-invariant random variables.

Loss analyses of two soft switching techniques for two-transistor forward converters are presented. The sums of snubber conduction and capacitive turn-on losses for two transistors are calculated to compare the losses of two techniques. While the conventional soft switching technique shows the loss difference between two transistors, proposed soft switching technique shows equal as well as lower loss in two transistors.

To test the hypothesis of complete or total independence for a multi-way contingency table, the Pearson chi-squared test statistic is usually employed under Poisson or multinomial models. It is well known that, under the hypothesis, this statistic follows an asymptotic chi-squared distribution. We consider the case where all marginal sums of the contingency table are fixed. Using conditional limit theorems, we show that the chi-squared test statistic has the same limiting distribution for this case.

For double arrays of constants ${a_{ni},\;1{\leq}i{\leq}k_n,\;n{\geq}1}$ and sequences ${X_n,\;n{\geq}1}$ of asymptotically almost negatively associated (AANA) random variables the almost sure convergence of $\sum\limits{_{i=1}}{^{k_n}}\;a_{ni}X_i$ is derived.

A complete convergence theorem for arrays of rowwise independent random variables was proved by Sung, Volodin, and Hu [14]. In this paper, we extend this theorem to the Banach space without any geometric assumptions on the underlying Banach space. Our theorem also improves some known results from the literature.

A module is said to be ${\pi}$-extending provided that every projection invariant submodule is essential in a direct summand of the module. In this article, we focus on the class of modules having the ${\pi}$-extending property by looking at the singularity of quotient submodules. By doing so, we provide counterexamples, using hypersurfaces in projective spaces over complex numbers, to show that being generalized ${\pi}$-extending is not inherited by direct summands. Moreover, it is shown that the direct sums of generalized ${\pi}$-extending modules are generalized ${\pi}$-extending.

This paper sums up the study of the soundproof facilities to be placed on the test track section within the Seoul-Pusan H.S.T project. The objective of this study is to determine optimum design of soundproof including height, length, location, sound absorbing materials for test track(chonan-taejon). This paper shows the model to design the shape and materials of noise barrier for high speed trains(TGV, ICE, etc). Noise prediction is to be conducted by MITHRA. Various parameters affecting the noise propagation outdoors are surveyed and discussed in relation to H.S.T. noise.

In this paper, we obtain some new inequalities for the Berezin number of operators on reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces by using the Hölder-McCarthy operator inequality. Also, we give refine generalized inequalities involving powers of the Berezin number for sums and products of operators on the reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces.

In this paper, we decompose (under unitary similarity) the Kronecker sum A ⊞ A (= A ⊗ I + I ⊗ A) into a direct sum of irreducible matrices, when A is a 3×3 matrix. As a consequence we identify 𝒦(A⊞A) as the direct sum of several full matrix algebras as predicted by Artin-Wedderburn theorem, where 𝒦(T) is the unital algebra generated by Tand T^*.
