  • The control of a class of large scale systems formed by an arbitrary linear interconnections of linear time-invariant subsystems with unknown parameters is investigated. An approach is developed for improving the robustness of such a large scale system. In doing so, the new parameter adaptation algorithm(PAA) is used and a sufficient condition of stability is discussed by using the sector theory.

  • This paper presents on approach to the position control of a robot manipulator by using a decentralized adaptive control scheme. The large scale system is regarded as the system which consists of many subsystems having interconnection. In each subsystem, a local control system is composed by feedforward and feedback component, one computes the nominal torque from the Newton-Euler equation, the other computes the perturbation equation which reduce the position error of the manipulator along the nominal trajectory. A computer simulation studies was conducted to evaluate and compare the performances of the proposed manipulator control scheme with those of the PD control and centralized control schemes.

  • This paper describes the general formulation for the in-plane longitudinal and flexural coupled free vibration analysis of a branched structure. The branched structure, which is mainly found in machine tools, pipeline systems and so on, has some crooked parts and subsystems. And it modeled as a distributed mass system. The superiority of the present method to the transfer matrix method in the computation accuracy and speed was confirmed by the numerical computation results. Moreover, we comfirmed that boundary and intermediate conditions have been controlled by the spring constants.

  • This paper describes a duplexed process control system for a boiler-turbine system of power plant, which is composed of supervisor, controller, and simulater subsystems. Its embeded POL(Problem oriented language) as a structured control language enables this system to do a real-time distributed control and fault diagnosis by simple programming with the actual implementation of advanced control algorithms such as PID autotuning and GPC, etc, the performance of overall system has been greatly enhanced.

  • This paper presents a decentralized model reference adaptive control scheme for an interconnected linear system composed of a number of single-input single-output subsystems in which outgoing interactions pass through the measurement channel and are subjected to bounded external disturbances. The scheme can treat the unknown strength of interactions as well as uncertainties in subsystem dynamics, and allows for the case when the relative degree of each decoupled subsystem does not exceed two.

  • This paper considers the problem of stabilizing a composite system formed by interconnecting a number of single-input single-output linear continuous systems. The problem is general in the sense that in addition to the standard assumption about the uncertainty of the subsystems, the strength of interconnections is assumed unknown. A method to design a local adaptive feedback control is first presented, and then the resultant closed-loop system is assured to be globally stable. Also, a numerical example is illustrated via computer simulation.

  • In this paper, as the first step to assess and enhance the reliability of Korea High Speed Train, electric traction system is selected and reliability analysis is carried out. The electric traction system is classified into subsystems and functional block diagrams and reliability block diagrams are drawn. Expressions to calculate the reliability are deducted and Mean Kilometer Between Service Failure is calculated using the trial test results on the track. Calculated results show reliability growth of the electric traction system.

  • As the high performance computer system increases, improving of reality and usefulness causes the virtual environment of simulator to be used widely as training and assessment tool. Although some domestic companies have developed train driving simulators since about mid of 1990s, accumulation of technology and experience is not yet sufficient compared to foreign makers. This paper describes system composition, training and assessment regimes for high level train driving simulator. When the subsystems are designed, comprehension of train system is emphasized and the functions that simulator should provide are discussed.

  • A back-propagation neural network based system for a fault diagnosis of a chemical process is developed. Training data are acquired from FCD(Fault-Consequence Digraph) model. To improve the resolution of a diagnosis, the system is decomposed into 6 subsystems and the training data are composed of 0, 1 and intermediate values. The feasibility of this approach is tested through case studies in a real plant, a naphtha furnace, which has been used to develop a knowledge based expert system, OASYS (Operation Aiding expert SYStem).

  • This paper presents a precise and stable time integration method for dynamic analysis of vibration or multibody systems. A total system is divided into several subsystems and their responses are calculated separately, while the coupling effect is treated equivalently as constant force during time steps. By using iterative procedure to improve equivalent coupling forces, a precise and stable solution is obtained. Some examples such as a seismic response and multibody analyses were carried out to demonstrate its usefulness.
