  • The objective of the earthquake resistant design of structures is to satisfy on the one side the minimization of damage requirement under earthquakes with high probability of occurrence during the design life and on the other side the no collapse requirement under the design seismic event with low probability of occurrence. The two requirements are satisfied with the minimum strength of substructure as well as the ductile failure mechanism presented in the codes. In this study seismic performance is evaluated with two bridges which have steel box superstructures and T type, II type piers as substructures. In order to satisfy the two requirements redesign of both substructures and steel bearings are carried out.

A Modular Formulation for Flexible Multibody Systems Including Nonlinear Finite Elements

  • A formulation for flexible multibody systems (MBS) is investigated, where rigid MBS substructures are coupled with flexible bodies described by a nonlinear finite element (FE) approach. Several aspects that turned out to be crucial for the presented approach are discussed. The system describing equations are given in differential algebraic form (DAE), where many sophisticated solvers exist. In this paper the performance of several solvers is investigated regarding their suitability for the application to the usually highly stiff DAE. The substructures are connected with each other by nonlinear algebraic constraint equations. Further, partial derivatives of the constraints are required, which often leads to extensive algebraic trans-formations. Handcoding of analytically determined derivatives is compared to an approach utilizing algorithmic differentiation.

  • An efficient wave energy converter with new overtopping flow device on which spiral reefs are attached is proposed by Maritime and Ocean Engineering Research Institute in Korea and its candidate substructures such as monopile, tripod and jacket are designed. This study investigates modal characteristics of the substructures by analyzing natural frequencies and mode shapes. Based on the modal analysis results, relative strength, governing modes and some complementary design strategies of each candidate substructure are compared and discussed considering water depth conditions.

  • The studies on design and synthesis of new monocyclic ${\beta}$-lactam esters 4(R/S)-(1'-methoxycarbonylpropyl- 2'(R/S)-thio)-3(R)-phenylacetamidoazetidin-2-one (3a) and 4(R/S)-(1'-methoxycarbonyl-2'-methylpropyl-2'- thio)-3(R)-phenylacetamidoazetidin-2-one (3b) were described. Compounds 3a and 3b were specifically designed to retain all penicillin substructures except the bicyclic system, which would be conceived by cleaving the C(3)-N(4) bond of penicillin G. Compounds 3a and 3b are of particular interest in the context of the structural elucidation of monocyclic ${\beta}$-lactams originated from penicillin. Key intermediates, ${\beta}$-mercapto esters 6a and 6b, were synthesized from conjugate acids 4a and 4b using three-step synthetic sequences, respectively, and 4(S)-acetoxy-3(S)-phenylacetamidoazetidin-2-one (7) was obtained from the degradation of penicillin G. Reactions of 6a and 6b with 7, thus obtained, provided the target compounds 3a and 3b, respectively.

  • 2차원적인 유한요소들을 각 절점에서 6개의 자요도를 갖는 3차원인 입체로 결합함으로써, 횡하중을 받고 있는 합성 쉘 구조를 해석할 수 있는 프로그램 [MSSLL]을 개발하였다. 전체 구조물이 여러개의 반복되는 Substructure들로 이루어졌을 때에는, 인력의 소모를 극소화하고 계산시간을 절약할 수 있도록 해석과정에 Substructuring 기법을 본 프로그램에 도입하였다. 프로그램의 신뢰도를 확인하기 위하여 본 프로그램에 의한 해석결과와 다른 방법에 의한 결과를 비교분석 하였으며, 지진력을 받고 있는 8개의 개별 원추들로 구성된 쉘 구조의 거동에 대한 높이-경간비의 영향을 규명하기 위하여 변수연구를 수행하였다.

  • In this study, a method is presented to find out a relationship between modes of a substructure and those of the system structure. Superelement analysis is performed for a full vehicle system, where the bus is partitioned by six parts. In this study, Modal Assurance Criteria(MAC) which is to represent the correlation between two mode shapes is used to investigate the contribution factor of each substructure for the full system. The proposed participation factor can be used for design of substructures to meet the design target of the total structural system.

  • Fast construction of bridge structures is a new trend of bridge design. Accelerated bridge construction includes the construction of superstructures and substructures. In order to reduce the construction time for substructures, precast prestressed bridge piers are increasingly applied in other countries. One of the main concern in the design of precast piers is the determination of the axial prestress forces. The behavior of the piers should be investigated under service loadings and ultimate conditions. In this paper, the magnitude of prestress is calculated to control the stress at the joint of precast piers. Considering long-term behavior of prestressed piers, P-M diagrams for precast piers are obtained to verify the ultimate behavior of the piers. Based on these studies, precast piers are applied to the light-railway bridge piers.

  • 단백질의 기능은 단백질의 구조에 따라 결정되며, 새로운 단백질의 기능을 파악하기 위하여 이미 밝혀진 단백질의 기능과 구조를 비교하는 방법이 사용되고 있다. 단백질 구조를 비교하는 방법은 단백질 구조를 표현하는 방법에 따라 다양하게 개발되고 있으며, 보다 효과적으로 관련된 연구자들이 자신의 연구에 활용하기 위해서는 빠르고 쉽게 활용할 수 있는 인터페이스를 제공하는 도구가 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 단백질 이차구조 및 그들 사이의 관계를 이용하여 단백질 구조를 표현하는 PSAML과 이를 이용하여 표현된 단백질 구조를 비교하는 시스템인 S4E(Search Substructures of Secondary Structure Elements)에 관하여 기술한다. S4E 시스템은 단백질 이차구조와 그들 사이의 관계(각도, 거리, 길이)를 이용하여 표현된 단백질 구조를 비교하여 유사성이 높은 부분을 찾는 기능을 제공한다. 또한 S4E 시스템은 이차구조 기반의 단백질 구조 데이터베이스(PSAML 데이터베이스) 및 웹 기반 사용자 인터페이스를 제공하여 사용자가 쉽고 효과적으로 단백질 구조 비교를 할 수 있다.

반복 구조간 연성 효과의 불균일성에 의한 진동 국부화 (Vibration Localization due to Mistuned Coupling Effects Among Repeated Structures)

  • In periodically repeated cyclic structures, small property irregularity of their substructures often causes significant difference in their dynamic responses. which results in unpredicted premature failures. The small irregularity and the resulting phenomenon are called the mistuning and the vibration localization. respectively. In this paper, the vibration localization phenomena due to mistuned coupling effects are investigated. To effectively achieve the objective, a simple coupled multi-pendulum system Is employed. The results show that if there exists some coupling stiffness irregularity, vibration localization may occur and becomes more predominant as the number of substructures increases.
