To search for substituents of greens, several organic materials such as rice straw, barley straw, corn stem and manufactured compost were applied in a ginseng cultivating field. The yields of six year old ginseng harvested in the rice straw, barley strait and corn stem treated field were similar to or higher than that of the greens treated one. The varied amount of applied substituents resulted in a yield change, but statistical linearity was not found. The growth of ginseng aerial part and soil physicochemical property in the field fortified with these substituents showed similar results to those of the greens treated one. So, it is though that these organic materials can substitute for greens.
Pulp mold is one of the famous environmental friendly materials, which made from re cycled materials such as old newsprints through the environmental friendly processes. Furthermore, the used pulp mold can be easily recycled and the pulp mold itself is biodegradable. However, the higher cost and some deficiency in physical properties of pulp mold have been considered as issues to be overcome for a substitute for polymeric packaging materials such as EPS (Expandable Polystyrene). The way for the optimization of a pulp mold mill was proposed in this report. The possible reduction of drying energy was calculated by using a computer simulation method, which could Provide the detailed information about mass balance of overall process. The simulated results showed a great possible curtailment of production cost by improving the forming systems, for example, increasing the temperature and the dryness of a wet pulp mold.
Dual arm manipulators have been developed for the entertainment purpose such as humanoid type or the industrial application such as automatic assembly. Nowadays, there are some issues for applying the dual arm robot system into the various fields. Especially, robots can substitute human and perform the dangerous activity such as search and rescue in the battle field or disaster. In the paper, the dual arm manipulator which can be adapted to the rescue robot with the mobile platform was developed. The kinematic design was proposed for the rescue activity and the required specification was determined through the kinematic analysis and the dynamic analysis in the various conditions. The proposed dual arm manipulator was manufactured based on the vibration analysis result and its performance was proved by the experiment.
Recently, the construction industry in South Korea, has experienced many difficulties in lack of supply with construction materials. Since waste shells can be possibly used as replacement materials of fine aggregate, the successful application can resolve, to some extent at least, the economic problems and environmental problems. In this research, the basic physical properties of the mortar which was used as fine aggregate substitute (clam, cockle, manila clam, oyster) were evaluated. According to the experimental results, the absorption rate and compressive strength of samples with various shells were equivalent to that of plain mortar. The mortar which replaced 25% of oyster shell with sand showed approximately 30% lower compressive strength and twice as much absorption as plain mortar. It was found that waste shells can be used as replacement materials of fine aggregate, but the oyster shell requires further experimental works in order for its successful application.

Objectives: Various bone graft substitute materials are used to enhance bone regeneration in the maxillofacial skeleton. In the recent past, synthetic graft materials have been produced using various synthetic and natural calcium precursors. Very recently, eggshell-derived hydroxyapatite (EHA) has been evaluated as a synthetic bone graft substitute. To assess bone regeneration using EHA in cystic and/or apicectomy defects of the jaws through clinical and radiographic evaluations. Materials and Methods: A total of 20 patients were enrolled in the study protocol (CTRI/2014/12/005340) and were followed up at 4, 8, 12, and 24 weeks to assess the amount of osseous fill through digital radiographs/cone-beam computed tomography along with clinical parameters and complications. Wilcoxon matched pairs test, means, percentages and standard deviations were used for the statistical analysis. Results: The sizes of the lesions in the study ranged from 1 to 4 cm and involved one to four teeth. The study showed significant changes in the formation of bone, the merging of material and the surgical site margins from the first week to the first month in all patients (age range, 15-50 years) irrespective of the size of the lesions and the number of teeth involved. Bone formation was statistically significant from the fourth to the eighth week, and the trabecular pattern was observed by the end of 12 weeks with uneventful wound healing. Conclusion: EHA showed enhancement of bone regeneration, and healing was complete by the end of 12 weeks with a trabecular pattern in all patients irrespective of the size of the lesion involved. The study showed enhancement of bone regeneration in the early bone formative stage within 12 weeks after grafting. EHA is cost effective and production is environment friendly with no disease transfer risks. Thus, natural bioceramics will play an important role in the reduction of costs involved in grafting and reconstruction.
Various calcium phosphate bioceramics are distinguished by their excellent biocompatibility and osteoconductivity. Especially, the exceptional biodegradability of $\beta$-TCP makes it a bone graft substitute of choice in many clinical applications. The activation of osteoclasts, differentiated from macrophage precursor cells, trigger a cell-mediated resorption mechanism that renders $\beta$-TCP biodegradable. Based on this evidence, we studied the biodegradation process of granular-type $\beta$-TCP bone graft substitute through in vitro and in vivo studies. Raw 264.7 cells treated with RANKL and M-CSF differentiated into osteoclasts with macrophage-like properties, as observed with TRAP stain. These osteoclasts were cultured with $\beta$-TCP nano powders synthesized by microwave-assisted process. We confirmed the phagocytosis of osteoclasts by observing $\beta$-TCP particles in their phagosomes via electron microscopy. No damage to the osteoclasts during phagocytosis was observed, nor did the $\beta$-TCP powders show any sign of cytotoxicity. We also observed the histological changes in subcutaneous tissues of rats implanted with granule-type $\beta$-TCP synthesized by fibrous monolithic process. The $\beta$-TCP bone graft substitute was well surrounded with fibrous tissue, and 4 months after implantation, 60% of its mass had been biodegraded. Also, histological findings via H&E stain showed a higher level of infiltration of lymphocytes as well as macrophages around the granule-type $\beta$-TCP. From the results, we have concluded that macrophages play an important role in the biodegradation process of $\beta$-TCP bone graft substitutes.
Two-dimensional (2D) materials containing hole defects are a promising substitute for conventional nanopore membranes like silicon nitride. Hole defects on 2D materials, as atomically thin nanopores, have been used in nanopore devices, such as DNA sensor, gas sensor and purifier at lab-scale. For practical applications of 2D materials to nanopore devices, researches on characteristics of hole defects on graphene, hexagonal boron nitride and molybdenum disulfide have been conducted precisely using transmission electron microscope. Here, we summarized formation, features, structural preference and stability of hole defects on 2D materials with atomic-resolution transmission electron microscope images and theoretical calculations, emphasizing the future challenges in controlling the edge structures and stabilization of hole defects. Exploring the properties at the local structure of hole defects through in situ experiments is also the important issue for the fabrication of realistic 2D nanopore devices.

We have investigated the characteristics of transparent indium zinc oxide(IZO)/Ag/IZO multilayer electrode grown on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates using a specially designed roll-to-roll sputtering system for use in flexible device are described. By the continuous R2R sputtering of the bottom IZO, Ag, and top IZO layers at room temperature, we were able to fabricate an IZO-Ag-IZO multilayer electrode with a sheet resistance of 6.15 ${\Omega}$/square, optical transmittance of 87.4 %, and figure of merit value of 42.03 10-3 ${\Omega}$-1. In addition, the IZO-Ag-IZO multilayer electrode exhibited superior flexibility to the RTR sputter grown single ITO electrode, due to the existence a ductile Ag layer between the IZO layers. This indicates that the RTR sputtered IZO-Ag-IZO multilayer is a promising flexible electrode that can substitute for the conventional single ITO electrode grown by bath type sputtering for use in low cost flexible device, due to its low resistance, high transparency, superior flexibility and fast preparation by the R2R process.
