The after-school programs provided the students teachers for the opportunity to participate peripherally in educational practice of school. Through the participation, the student teachers developed positive attitudes toward teaching career and became to have more solid ideas about how to teach mathematics. Based on the analysis, this research provides following suggestions concerning how to improve student teaching. First, it is necessary to provide student teachers to participate into the practice of teaching at the early stage of teacher education programs. Second, it is important to give students teacher opportunity to participate in teaching at peripheral and legitimate positions. Finally, it is necessary to construct mentoring networks to support student teachers to move from a peripheral position toward a center of teaching practice.

  • The role of teachers has been explicitly emphasized to implement the vision of sustainable development(SD). Also, it is very important to understand the way student teachers understand SD and how they interpret their own professional task in terms of SD, usually referred to as education for sustainable development(ESD). This study investigated student teachers' perceptions of SD and ESD using group interview. Key findings include, first, that they think SD as development which does not exceed the limits of natural environment, and as wise management of resources/protection of environment for future generations. They also think SD as good thing though they don't understand the contested nature of SD. Second they think ESD as education about SD, but some student teachers say they can't explain ESD. Many student teachers prefer field trip to local examples for both elementary school students and themselves. Also they will teach only what the textbook says about SD and ESD during their school placement and as teachers. So it will be the beginning of ESD in school to include SD in the curriculum for students and student teachers. It is suggested to study student teachers' perception of SD focussing on how they think the relationship between protection of environment and economic growth.

  • To understand the structure and dynamics of different forms of learning, whether incidental or conscious, we have to study them as parts or aspects of concrete historical activities with specifiable contexts. This realization is more embodied in apprenticeship learning situations of the student teachers. In this perspective, this paper aims to understand the student teachers' experience on geography teaching as a participant observer in the secondary schools. The 9 student teachers during the teaching internship have written their 38 journals, which was quality analysed to find out key concepts for the purpose of this research. Major conclusions are suggested below as follows. First, the most student teachers were experienced in geography teaching in the secondary schools through the 2-weeks practice teaching. Second, in the positive perspective, student teachers observed on that teachers would teaching well interact with student and experienced teachers would settle down to student's studies. Third, in the negative perspective, student teachers observed on that teachers lecture with only text, and cooperative learning by student presentation in the geography class. Finally, In third person perspective, there is no students' or teachers' productive questions in the whole-class conversation. In addition to that the most mentor teachers lecture do all of the talking in class. In effect these student teachers' experiences, especially 'reality of the geography teaching' and 'practical knowledge of the novice mentor teachers or experienced mentor teachers', either reinforce or modify understanding about the geography teaching practices.
